hologramet
Some updates.Trades the basically NOS 1570 for a 1520. Waiting for it to arrive. Decided to use the alternative mk3-80s-variant insert and added a gen light yellow tritium pearl to it.Adapted 580 end links to fit the case with custom "93150"-Bracelet and Sub-C-clasp.Final assembly soooon. All yellow aged tritium is "compatible".Note CGs are incorrect on Vietnam cases. Not horrible. But not especially good either. Will get these sorted out in the future. Can live with it for now. Compared to dlf-modded 5517 with correct shape.Skickat från min iPhone med Tapatalk
Mendota Explorer
Wow. Interesting to see that difference between the crown guards up close like that. That's actually kind of shocking. I assume her 1680 case would have the same difference with dimensions then. How will you get the shape more accurate to the original? Do the Phong and MQ cases also come with dimensions that off, or is it because Ruby's isn't already reworked the way Phong and MQ do? My understanding from reading on all of the boards is that these all come from the same original supplier, but MQ and Phong cherry pick the ones they want first and then rework them. Ruby's aren't reworked and you just get it as it came, which is why there is a price difference.
highoeyazmuhudee
Looking good so far. :good: a couple questions: how well did the gen parts fit the ruby case without modification? was there an issue using the 1570? or did you just want the correct cal (1520) for a 5513? But minimal changes. However.. I traded my 1570 for a 1520.. And got scammed. Filed to state police authorities since he is under probation (for being a pedophile). I hope he has a nice time in prison. UPDATE.... Fixed the crown guards: Skickat från min iPhone med Tapatalk
hologramet
If someone is interested in continuing this build, PM me. I got pretty pissed and lost my drive to finish this build, when suddenly losing my 2000+€ movement.

Nanuq
@hologramet I know it's frustrating losing something valuable like that. I've lost the pieces to a very nice Red Sub build and an extremely rare extremely early Sub build this year. They went to a top notch builder that has quit replying to me.Yes it sucks. Yes I hate it. I'm sure you do too. But you still have everything you need sans that movement. My advice is to keep going. You're emotionally invested in it and you can't put a price tag on that. I think it will mean a lot for you to press on and finish this.

Updating with a recent pic.. Skickat från min iPhone med Tapatalk Hologramet I have fought similar battles. Not loosing a beauty of a gen movement but others. Dials that are supposed to be gen showing up as rep, running “great condition” movements arriving stuck and non repairable, long delays waiting for the correct parts. Etc.... I agree with the others, definitely stick with it. Just sit it aside and let some time pass. After all it is a birth year build right? It took you quite a while to reach this age and good things take time and perseverance. In the end you will have something very special to you that you would never think of parting out. Just my 2 cents BTW, love the wall clock!

RickFlorida
Can I ask about the drown? Is the crown that comes with the Rubyswatch 5513 case decent or is the Athaya crown better? I own an Athaya crown and its on my MQ 5513 midcase and it's watertight to at least 200 feet. (That is what I tested my watch too). I might buy a Rubyswatch 5513 case for another project and was wondering if the crown is good enough to use (equal to Athaya)?
hologramet
The crown that comes with is decent, Athaya is better. The build is restarted. After accepting that a 1520 can be circumverted and aint a necessity... Just purchased a PowerMatic 80 (2824 with 21600bph) will be stripped to non-date and only ”1 crown hack”. Hands will be converted to fit. Dial too.. 7030 crown tube purchased. Soon hearing to Domi for conversion/mods...

hologramet
Domi is the sh*t...1) Deepened the crown tube placement, removing metal. New tube installed.2) Drilled holes for gen dial feet in the mainplate > sturdy and keeps the dials value.3) Modded keyless, new stem to make it only 1 hack, for setting the time4) Adapted gen hands to fit the Powermatic 80 movement5) Lathed a custom movement ring..Skickat från min iPhone med Tapatalk
hugop
Stunningly great work!Especially like... "2) Drilled holes for gen dial feet in the mainplate > sturdy and keeps the dials value."I have done this on 2842 movements and they can be bought as no date and already have single position time setting keyless. Works out great!Holo, this will be a keeper for sure!Sent from my SM-T587P using Tapatalk
