TwoTone
I seriously doubt that this is the main issue, although I am sure it is at the very least a minor annoyance. It looks to me like theeris a lot of 'squeeze' going on right now and it is principally effecting the smaller non asian based dealers. Look at some of the other threads. Clearly events have changed the risk equation for these guys... I will say it again... The situation with EL has NOTHING to do with being squeezed by other Dealers... Stop the f**king rumor mill already... TT
jfreeman420
quality will continue to fall? maybe i'm crazy but in my mind the quality of our reps have only gotten better over the past year(s)...Some reps have gotten better, mainly the new wave of brands other than Rolex. Many of the Rolex models have deteriorated with wron case sizes, bad dials, and obvious shortcuts that the masses don't notice. It also used to be ETA or Asian. That's it, no asian ETA, swiss asian chinese 23.5 jewel this or modified that. Sapphire was sapphire and glass was glass. There used to be honor among thieves (it is still somewhat an underground hobby). pricing was arbitrary - we like you low, we don't like you high. - there was a unwritten rule on the forum that you didn't reveal the deal you got from your dealer. - Amen to that. People ask where and how much? River, email him.

V
Well you know my feelings at the 'White lies' topic.. Newer members who haven't a first row look at the situation 3 years ago they might have a reason to expect what they want. Thankfully many old members understood how 'forward' we are in terms of service and appreciate it. We have to go back to Dark Ages to appreciate technology? Or we should ask Robots for slaves? Not a nice example because things should move forward but for our hobbie we must learn to appreciate (did I said appreciate again? )

jkerouac
I only purchased one watch from Eddie, and that one was during his Christmas sale a couple of months ago. It's a sad day indeed when someone of his caliber has to leave the arena. At the same time, I have long been amazed that he could maintain a successful rep business from his North American base of operation. If you read this, Eddie, I join with the rest of your forum friends in wishing you well. I only purchased one rep from River as well, although that was much longer ago -- my 192, if I recall correctly. Another flawless transaction. I always figured that I would eventually buy more from him, but it never came about. River, if you see this, I wish you all the best in the future. robertk
Well, Eddie and River leaving the building......leaves me sad. I've only been in this game three years and remember buying a lot from Eddie. Half the fun was the email back and forth between eddie or river. Never knew if I got the best price or someone else did.........but I was happy with the product and that's all that mattered. It's also true that life changes and people just move on. Sometimes it just takes a little push and you're somewhere else. I'll Miss them both...........especially Eddie's "thoughtful" comments. Obviously, the game is changing. Thankfully, TTK is still among us, primarily as a collector, and King, etc.. I'm still enjoying the hobby, although I have so many reps now, I probably have more reps than most dealers have stock! What peak's my interest is...................What's next?
CJVCMC
Sir edward sir edward wont you come back to the forum that sports... many noobys on "crack" I remember like a genie you would answer your mails and sell a great watch with a bivy of tales stories of conquest in a jungle of bars as you told of your exploits in the back of your cars how many women did you actually do..? was it equal in number of watches customs let thru... or were you really a lonesome outlaw and the love of your life every watch that you saw... we will miss you dear friend for the son has gone down the legend of watchdom has relinguished his crown and so we are left with the new generation to carry on your heart to the rep federation and as we recieve our wonderful toys we all raise our glass to your legacy of boys try as they may to carry your light it will never be the same it will never be right. Chronus
I hate be an I told you so......but I told you so......I predicted 2 years ago that most of the good regular dealers would give up in the face of a tsunami of Chinese dealers who are prepared to undercut everyone for the sake of an extra bowl of rice........these dealers have little knowledge of the hobby....but they know how to make money from it........! Believe me when I say it........THERE IS WAY MUCH MORE TO ALL OF THIS THAN MEETS THE EYE.......there's been a concerted effort to dismiss the smaller dealers and secure as many sales as possible to the pockets of these Chinese dealers....and there's more hiding in the woodwork.......! Here's a little scenario for you....! New U.S. based Chinese dealer comes to a forum......announces that he is going to break 'the monopoly" that exists...( ?).........worms his way in by making all sorts of special offers....shill members sing the praises........slashes other dealers profits.....natural attrition takes place........the rest can be disposed of by one means or another.........finally they 'buy' out the forum....and 'other' new dealers mysteriously appear.......similar websites.....similar offers.......but everything is heading one way.....so now we have a Replicacenter.com scenario...with a captive audience of 1,000's............dun think so......think again.....! It's all going dark...
Tim
Maybe if the smaller more specialize dealers are having a hard time with the noobs wanting and complaining too much, maybe all if this should migrate to the VIP area. I haven't upgraded my membership yet, but think the VIP area is a good idea and will probably do the upgrade. I think there will always be a place for the smaller dealers if the offer some added value to the equation. For instance, doing some standard mods to the run of the mill reps I think will always be a winning approach. Stuff like a QC inspection, perhaps knocking off the sharp edges, or doing a regulation service on the movement. I know I've paid a reasonable premium for those types of things. Of course I am just a small time collector for myself and just do the onesy-twosy orders. I know there are other like that around here, but there are also probably a number of members who consider themselves professionals and are buying large lots of these watches to resell. /Tim

Admin
And just to end any more speculations: The membership of RWG is not the reason for this. deltatahoe
whoooa....slow down there, guys....Eddie is not going anywhere....he needs a short break to sort some things out and he will be back this is great news. i would have missed EL's sense of humor. where else on the forum could you get a lifetime battery guarantee for your watches? or viagra blue AR coatings? or a 50 meter dash in the rain waterproof guarantee? no other dealer here provides those types of services sunshine. It is too bad that it has come to this, Eddie is a good guy, tell it like it is, and always great service. I hope this "customer" does not cause him too much grief. All the best luck to you Eddie. HauteHippie
Speechless. Way back when I bought my first rep from Replica Lord. Old timers will remember this shady operation. Well thankfully, shortly thereafter I found TRC which, back then, was the only forum in town. There, I quickly found River, Eddie, and TTK and my pocketbook has suffered ever since. It is truly sad to see two of these three fine gents bowing out one right after the other. I wish both of them the very best and know I speak for everyone when I say they will be sorely missed. EDIT: Good news Admin!!! Eddie will be back!!
