New 20 something here.... OMG! The Apple II and Commodore 64....now THAT brings back some memories! I remember "writing programs" on the trusty Radio Shack TRS-80. Saving your work to the attached cassette player (it was a "backup device" because it had the Radio Shack logo on it). And to be able to afford the first Motorola "brick" phone?!? That was hot stuff. Wear that monster on your belt in the club and the ladies would flock. 42....but feeling somewhat older right now. Maybe I'll have another beer and "streak" for old time's sake. Then again....that requires effort....probably sweating....hard on the feet.....potential legal ramifications..... I'm thinking beer....Laz-y-Boy.....boxers....and 65 inch widescreen.......BINGO! I built my first computer from about 1975-77, dad had to buy the etching solution as they wouldn't sell acid to a kid... spent lots of time pulling together parts from various seconds and surplus dealers... it went from a hexdecimal keypad and 8 character/7segment display, to a full keyboard with RF for TV display by the time it was finally finished... it's mass storage came from a fairly famous electronics liquidator (whose name escapes me at the moment) and wore the same BSR badges as the turntables they sold so many of, I'm sure some of you remember the turntable ads... guess what the device(s) were? Dual 8-track recorders. Over the following years I built a few Heathkits, went through practically the whole lineup of TRS-80's, several Apples, Commodores from PET to 5001 to Vic20 to C-64, every iteration of Timex Sinclair, Coleco Adam, IBM's (XT, PC, AT, PC Jr), put my scrounging abilities to work and resold loads of parts through Computer Shopper (remember the "Gate Wars?")... First cell phones? Motorola DynaTac 8500, followed by the MicroTac8900, the MicroTac Ultra-Lite, the StarTac 550 (temporarily after I broke the Ultra-Lite), then the MicroTAC DPC 650E followed by the DPC 950E... also used to have a couple of "car phones" or transportables, a 4800 and a 1000, we called them "bag phones", for their snazzy nylon carrying cases for when they weren't in the car...
