By-Tor Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 No, new gens from Basel. Funny that the new SD is so wokky. Here's the new Sub. This new model comes in full gold only (for now). I'm sure we'll see the SS version updated with these specs too. Wow, those are some bulky cg's.
Seadweller4000 Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 These new crownguards... inspired by our old replicas?
By-Tor Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 @PZ: Changed the thread title. Otherwise someone will post a duplicate.
piratedzeus Posted April 2, 2008 Author Report Posted April 2, 2008 OK. See the maxi dial on the new subs.
Stephane Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 Poor Rolex I'm so happy I picked up a Y2K gen SD. This SD looks like a bad rep indeed. My god, those engravings Who the hell would want the time at 3900 meter depth anyway ?! Don't they use Submariners at that depth
cornerstone Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 What the hell is wrong with Rolex?!??? Is it just me? That looks like an ioffer hit parade of implausible reps. Ring lock system sounds like a gay sadomasochistic device. I don't know what to say about the last watches with the numbers falling all over the dial - a belated tie-in with the Matrix movie?
By-Tor Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 I think the new SD is nothing spectacular, but not horrible either. I prefer the old one as well, but is this really so bad? The new Sub is pretty much the same as the old one... only maxidial and new bulky cg's. I bet the rep factories can never make them big enough now.
rosnik Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 I'm really happy about the new SD ver. ..... So my gen 16600 SD now is a 'vintage' model!
FxrAndy Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 Yuo know when they rep these they will have the most perfect small CG we have been bleating about for years, at least before we could make them smaller, but if they make them too small then we are in a mess, BTW is the new SD a bigger case?
rosnik Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 Please take your attention to this particular: The CG is different from GEN 16600 /16660 ver. ; it appare to be SSD REP. like. Is it not soo ?
By-Tor Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 BTW is the new SD a bigger case? Yep. It's (supposedly) 42mm. This is not confirmed though.
Sir-Lancelot Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 Years ago someone gave me a gift, a gold sub from canal street that was chrome plated brass, maxi dial, and it had those same crown guards. Maybe this watch was the base for these new Submariners. That watch is now accuratly just as fugly as the gen. Lucky me.
dalayclass Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 I do think they are going to be amazing and that we will want them all to be repped soon... I have been told that the mouvement should be improved. I am happy because I have a gen LV and I think that within ten years it will cost as much as a double red sub today. If you see one in a shop buy it imediately!
By-Tor Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 SD sideview: Day-Date Platinum (41mm!!!!!!!!!!)
FxrAndy Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 The rehaute on the SD is not wocky it is vertical with a platoe!
mezzanine Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 Wow, so much for the idea that the Yachtmaster II was just an ugly duckling. I wonder what is going on within the Rolex hierarchy that they could be so out of touch.
southcoast68 Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 (edited) I like the dial on the SD, nice update. The "Ring Lock System" and the "Original Gas Esacpe Valve" should have remained on the caseback!!! Oh, and is that a ceramic bezel insert I see, or is it just the photo playing with my eyesight? Overall, Rollies are getting a little more rediculous looking every year now. It just seems like those folks just don't know which direction to go in nowadays. Edit; I guess that Platinum Day-Date does look pretty nice with gray dial, the look of understated luxury. Edited April 2, 2008 by southcoast68
w.genzo Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 It's just the pic or they still have the same date font problem, with the 28 misaligned? Imho SD is not so terrible, and I like the maxi dial. I don't think I will be able to wear such a huge watch BTW. What I dislike is that Rolex is getting more and more "fashion" every year.. losing elegance.
dalayclass Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 I don't agree with you, they are the best nowadays, just go and see on their website their new factory.
archibald Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 Who the hell would want the time at 3900 meter depth anyway ?! What time is it @ 3900m? Time to get your a$$ up to the surface.
chronology1066 Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 Agreed, they look like Spanish beach bum seller reps... if that good
