  1. For me, an insert is what gives a vintage Rolex its character. its amazing how the fade/wear of an insert can change the look of a watch. For the past year or so, I've been using a "ghost" kissing 40 (some call this a MKI but it really should be called a MKII kissing 40..but that is a debate for another day). The 40 is just kissing and it has a beautiful even fade.. very rare in this condition. But last week, I was offered a private sale of a special fat font that I debated in acquiring. Not only is it a kissing 40, but its also a kissing 50!. I have never seen one this fat, so i decided to make the offer, which was accepted. Here it is (on the right): As you can see.. extremely fat and the 50 is ridiculous: on the wrist: So paired with the "kissing 50" long 5 on my big crown, these are possibly the fattest of both kinds of inserts I have ever seen anywhere.

  4. Guys it's that most wonderful time of year when my PM box overflows w/ scammer reports . Yes my friends the Holidays is peak season as money gets tight and guys both short time members and long time get jammed up and pull a fast one. So be careful pay the F**ken PP fees and cover yourself for Pete's sake! The mods on other boards are busy also we talk, so be careful this is all over the rep fora. This is pinned above here , read if you are new to the game: https://rwg.cc/topic/177124-buyingselling-read

  5. "Keep in mind guys it's either in house Swiss ,German, Seiko or other Asian quality movements in the future w/ ETA cutting off parts." TAG Heuer is making a brand change in their quartz movements, looks like they are going with Harley Ronda in place of Eta. http://us.tagheuer.com/en/quartz-movement Wearing a steel case/plastic bezel/rubber strap T/H Formula. It is from the late 1980s and has a pale yellow 'full glow' dial and plastic bezel. Added a sapphire crystal and now have a bit over $100 tied up in it. Big Money. Watch with (too short) original jubilee style bracelet...$72. Bezel...$5. Crystal...$18. Strap with fake signed deployant clasp...$8. Batt/gaskets...$2 Bezel from a doa $5 'Majestron' dive style watch. Genuine bezels are $100+. Absurd. Clasp from a doa flea mkt fake. Don't wear it outside much. Afraid a 12 year old kid might snatch it.

  9. Definitely worth taking on if you think you'll learn something from it. You'll have to try and find a dial that fits the case, with dial feet for a 2836: Dial openin: 27.4mmMaximum dial diameter: 29.5 So find a dial with those dimensions. Try looking at "helenarou," just google the name and you'll see the results. They sell branded dials, not just sterile, if you want to go with branded. From there, look at the size of your hands and see if they will fit the dial appropriately (not reach too far onto the indices or not far enough).

  10. Nice build. You could argue that the price was just shy of a gen 5513, sure, but IMO there is a lot of emotional investment that goes into building a watch like this. It's not worth it for everyone, but some really enjoy it.

  11. I'd go with the milsub dial. With a little lume work it could look really really good!

  12. I like it when the sound of the movement resonates through a pillow to my ear... It reminds me that the most wonderful thing about the watch is the tiny mechanical wonder beating away that we hardly ever see. Also its the easiest way to check the time without having an LED display spoil the darkness. So yes...
