  1. Now discussing watches is what we do here getting into the finer points of names/classification well OK but it is all about how you say it. To answer your question capre yes they have a grudge the vitriol is due to it and I could not have said it better than you did above. We are supposed to be a group of friends sharing this ain't RWI so cut the shit both of you never mind who posted the first let us say outside of friends sharing attack that is obvious. This thread was running along so nicely too so disappointed it devolved into what it is and there was no need for it. Now let's play nicely gents.

  3. A few cases engraved, reshaped and color treated that will soon become exciting DayDates ! Look at the light gold perfectly even hue of the metal. When fitting a genuine WG crown, one can see the color is perfect !

  6. Our @Legend is a gentleman and a scholar. I’m not surprised about his ability but am with the way that the OEM treated you. Oh, BTW look out for Legend in the next Avengers movie where he goes around smashing poor workmanship, rescuing kittens and enlightening maidens.

  13. Personally I’d leave it as is, buy one that’s vintage if that’s what you want. I wouldn’t buy one that someone has “aged” as you described but that’s me Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  14. Like what yllekp said, rhe A2836 and A2824 are equally reliable. One key difference is that the A2836 is slightly thicker than its counterpart, and as such, the crown position on the A2836 seadweller will be slightly lower. Also the A2836 has an instant date flip (like the Rolex caliber 3135/3235) vs the slight roll, and then the flip over of the date minutes later. Anyway, it is possible to modify the base watch (whichever version you choose) to accept the either movement, there is good interchangeability between the two, though the datewheels are different and will need a Rolex dwo, for example, if you opt to switch from an A2824 movement to an A2836 movement. I personally prefer the A2836 movement over the A2824 and I’m modifying an A2824 ARF seadweller to become an ETA2836 movement version one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  21. Great observations, all. Might I introduce another category to the initial question? My watches are almost all gen, and worth truly stupid amounts of money. So much so, that they live in a safe and never see the light of day. But I want to dive with them, and climb rocks, and wear them in a laissez-faire manner, as would anyone in the 60s when they were made. Remember, these were "tool" watches, to be used roughly as tools. Scratches and dings and leaks were expected. Because they were tools. I can't justify taking a $50,000 watch swimming. That's insanity. But damn if it wouldn't look cool to do that... to look at that beast on the wrist in its natural setting, under a butt load of water, doing what it was meant to do. If it was truly a $200 watch, you'd do that and not think twice. Use it, and if it leaks try to dry it out. If it rusts, screw it and go get another $200 watch at the Rolex dealer. Who can't risk $200 for a tool? So we have the desire to use them haphazardly, like James Bond jumping in the ocean in Thunderball and not thinking twice about his genuine 6538. I mean c'mon, it's a fricken dive watch. Of course it's not going to leak. Don't even think twice about that, just wear it. But.... can any sane person take a 6538 in the ocean now? Hell no. The parts are unavailable. If it rusts, you're done. So what do we do to scratch that itch? Voila' the Genenstein. Build something that looks and acts and feels and works EXACTLY like a real period piece. But make it with parts that are relatively easily available. Who can spare $200 for another ETA movement if it floods? Me. So I get to use it haphazardly, jump in the ocean if I feel like it, and NOT FRICKEN CARE if it floods. I'm not risking a vintage movement, and the genenstein dial will only look better than it does now if it floods. It's a win-win. So there it is... a watch that can be used as if it was gen, and looks like a gen piece, but it's relatively inexpensive enough to justify the risk. It lets us experience, almost, the carefree feeling of the early days of Rolex tool watches.

  27. I have too much respect for the brand to do anything cheap. So: my build had to be the best possible within a reasonable budget. Not knock off quartz signed PP. Not for me. So, to create that 530 Chrono specially cased in white gold for Garrard of London, I used a genuine 1940's swiss made solid gold chronograph, modified the case to PP looks and installed one of these beautiful cartel dials. It took a year to find the correct donor watch - this case was number 4... - but it was worth the hunt !!!! Enjoy the pics !
