  3. I love these watches, great for first time modder's (like myself) and there're tons of aftermarket parts available for them. You can pick up an Invicta 8926 "Submariner look-alike" on Amazon for ~$80 shipped to your door within 2 days and they come with the Seiko NH35a movement (which hacks and hand winds). Good luck finding a similar featured micro-brand watch for anywhere near that price! Ground off the engraved "INVICTA" logo from the side of the watch and re-polished the case. Simply replaced the dial / hands / bezel and bracelet clasp with a custom laser engraved milled clasp. Have less than $200 invested in this one. I was a little more adventurous with this one... Ground off the "INVICTA" logo and removed the Crown Guards. The rest is standard fair, also added a Parnis P210 bracelet with solid endlinks.

  5. Fine looking watch! In the past 25 years I have seen ONE original 6542. A Bluegrass fiddle player/watch trader friend bought it for a few hundred bucks 8 or 10 years ago from the original owner's family. Having seen only one 'original' in 25 years, I could live with a bezel insert that was a little bit out of spec, aluminum or 'Perspex' because no one other than a dyed in the wool 6542 collector/enthusiast would know the difference. Most watch guys have never even seen one up close. I vote for the Perspex. Back when there were a few 6542 around at affordable prices, no one was much interested in them. I remember another friend paying $1200 for a 5510 and we (local traders) thought he paid too much. Then he paid $2400 for a super nice 1655. Same response...we all thought he paid too much.

  9. The more basic the design the better chance you have of sealing it successfully. Generally, I'd not bother with chronographs - although one of my Seamaster chrono reps was successfully tested to the maximum capability of Timpsons test equipment (can't remember but 100m or maybe even 200m).

  11. How about planes and watches? Turbine Otter and gen 6536/1 above the Ruth glacier. That rock face is 6,000 feet high for perspective.

  12. As above, but also remember modern depth ratings are not really relevant. Anything beyond 50 metres and you are into professional diving, with professional diving gear, not some lame ass rep or even a genuine Rolex these days. Nobody uses a dive watch instead of a modern dive computer, nobody times motorsport on a Daytona, and pilots don’t rely on pilot watches. I have a watch rated for 2500 metres, which would only really be useful for working out how long I’ve been dead.

  14. I have thought that would be a good idea for a while. We aren’t going to enforce it, but it would be really nice if guys did that and listed any mods, or gen parts

  15. Suggest you should just wear it and acquire a ceramic or forged carbon or steel rep diver and get legend to mod a little for you. Or if you have 5 grand to spare you can acquire a franken AP ROO, and have a couple of watches in your arsenal to play with. You already bought the watch, and its meant to be worn. TBH, AP has very little residual appreciation, you can see historically all the steel 42-44mm ROOs prices are coming down by at least 30% or even more for some RG models. This means, even if you keep it in the safe, it wont appreciate any much more unless you plan to bet on selling it after 40-60 years in Mint, quite possibly you could make some money, but we do not know yet. Historically speaking, the Jumbo RO only made it with appreciation value, many other ROOs which majority of them did not hold their value that well. So I would suggest you to wear this occasionally instead. I have a few friends who plays with these gen ROOs and they wear them almost daily because they are aware about this massive depreciation on their watches, when they dont like it anymore they will sell it without even thinking twice. And yes, you cant get away with those hairline scratches no matter how careful you are, its inevitable. Look at AP as sort of owning a Bentley, people who could afford the real thing often change their cars within 5 years, even when it suffered massive depreciation that would still move on to a newer Bentley, since they already made that much. this is just my personal observation and opinion
