  1. Yes, certainly an option, for anyone who wants to use it. Thanks WT! I did just that yesterday when it became annoying. However some siggys do contain valid and good info, so i do prefer to be able to see them. It appears for now that the siggys in question are under control, but if the pronblem re emerges, a quick note to any admin member should sort it. Thanks all. Offshore
  2. Well I can't picture the size of your parcel, but if you have an idea/weight, go to the USPS website, you can get a bloody good idea there! There are 2 options, one considerably cheaper, so look at both, and ask your seller if he will use it, and charge that rate. One thing I have noticed, is that ebay US must have an ability for the seller to put in some weights or dimensions, and come up with a "close" shipping rate. These are sometimes WAY off. I had an ebay price of $125 for one item, when I queried the seller, it became $38, plus $10 packing. A big differene. S'pose it depends on the seller. Offshore
  3. ahchard, Some not so good news. US Post no longer have a parcel post (read seafreight) option. Everything through them comes out by air, trust me, I have been trying to buy a big number of large items of late. Your only hope is that someone in the US would be prepared to take them to a seafreight consolidator, otherwise all your post options would be big$$. Pack'n Post do offer a sea option, but their charges are significant. Another avenue is to check the post cost to Canada, and get someone to on freight from there. They still have a seafreight option available. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but that is what I have found recently. If anyone US based has any other ideas, I am all ears, as I have been trying to buy items in filing cabinet sized lots, and the (air) freight just kills any deal. Offshore
  4. L-dizzle, Agreed it is a nuisance. We are contacting members who have w i d e r siggys, and asking them to resize them. In the meantime the only other option is to go to "My Controls" and answer NO to "Display sigg's" Offshore EDIT to add. And a couple of our great members have already addressed this little problem. Please advise admin if any others crop up.
  5. So sorry to hear Laz. Mourn in your own way, as it is not easy. But try to focus on the good times, and remember all the best things about your friend. I feel for your loss. Offshore
  6. Welcome H'n'P! Great to see a 1st post, from an RWG supporter! Means 2 things to me, Firstly you have taken the time to explore the resource... properly! And that alone is refreshing. Secondly, you have seen that the continuation, and proliferation of the resource, requires a level of support. And for that we thank you sincerely. Enjoy your time here. Hold on to your wallet...it can be an expensive ride! Offshore
  7. @Vw, "Page no longer available" Hmmmmmmm. Offshore
  8. Absolutely agree, sss! Am yet to see a sapphire with these sorts of imperfections ( although I concede they may exist) In a Mineral Glass, you see them fairly regularly. Are you sure these are not specs under the glass, ( if it is indeed sapphire?) Offshore
  9. Think we need to be clear if we are talking about pressing the bezel, or the crystal. If we are talking about the bezel, as long as the die to press it gives clearance on the crystal, most anything will do the job (as long as it is non-marking) If however we are talking about crystal remove and replace, it really depends on the crystal style and shape. It could be a lift, if there is no rear access, it could be as simple as popping it from the rear, either with fingers or a press. I beleive here we should look at the various types of presses available. From cheap hand models with nylon or brass dies, to screw type.. more pro models. The one thing all of these however have in common, is that they are using downward compression for the install, and don't really offer a practical method for removal, (as it is all based on force/compression) If we look at the method the G-S press works on, we see that the crystal is sitting face down in a die, and then a second die is applied in the centre of the crystal. (These dies all need to be sized to the specific job) This pressure in the centre, causes the crystal to decrease in diameter, allowing the case to slide over the crystal outside diameter. When the pressure is released, the crystal expands, and slots into the case groove, or the tension ring, dependent on the crystal style and type. Removal of an insitu crystal is achieved by reversing this procedure.... remove case back, movement, lay crystal face into die, apply pressure to crystal centre, slide case away, release pressure. However if access is from the front, then a lift is need, and there are a range of sizes, styles and types of these as well, although they all work in much the same fashion, albeit with better and worse results. Recently I discussed "The Watch Crystal Encyclopedia", available from Florida Watch (Helfands), If anyone is serious about learning the art of crystal fitting, I do recommend it, (and no, I am not on a backhander ) I do however now have a commercial interest in crystal supply, so am trying to get up to speed as quickly as possible. Beleive me, this seemingly simple task, is a real science in itself, and a most intriguing area of our craft. As an aside to all this, an accurate set of calipers are a must for crystal fitting. If you don't know the EXACT size of the case groove area you are attempting to fit a crystal to, you will never size a crystal correctly. Purchasing a crystal, that "should" fit is a long way from having measured the need, and purchased the correct size crystal to do the specific job. I well recognise that cases are CNC machined, and SHOULD all be the same size. My experience has been far different, and beleive me, I have smashed, crushed and exploded more than a few in my learning process. Thankfully far fewer now I am coming to grips with the science. Sermon ends.... Gee I get into this stuff!! Offshore
  10. Ziggy, I must agree, those are awesome close ups! Are they just macros, or are you using a Trinocular Stereo 'scope? Cos, I am in the research stage for one, and would be interested to know what you use. Am looking at an arm mounted, with 30X, and 170mm focal length ( to be able to get the tools under) Recommendations or thoughts? Or anyone else who has knowledge of these units? Thanks Offshore
  11. @cats, I'm with sssurfer on this one. Maybe you could give us some more info? Are you saying you want to remove the crystal from the front? Not being a Pam person, I don't even know if the crystals have enough "shoulder" area to lift? If so you will need a crystal lift, not a press. I would need to research as to what lifts will operate on a crystal that size, What is the OD of the crystal? (At the "shoulders"... lifting point) as I think most lifts will open to accomodate these dimensions. Maybe post a couple of photos, of what you are attempting, then we will try to assist. Offshore
  12. Welcome aboard, enjoy the ride. There is some great info within these walls. Offhore
  13. @keiron, Crystals won't be a problem, albeit they may end up acrylic. I can assist there. Give thought to contacting a Seiko agent and seeing if GP cases are still available. The task of re GP these may prove difficult. I am doing one for a client, and for the life of me can't remove all the old GP. I contacted Seiko, and they had a new case for A$45. I was never going to clean the old one and replate for that amount. Maybe new crowns as well, shouldn't be a prob. If you can't replace the cases, get a quote from a plater, preferably one who dip plates than brush plates. He will probably dip to remove the old plating first. See how you go, and give me a PM if I can assist. Offshore
  14. Doc, You disappoint me... The UN Freak indeed... the Holy Grail! By my own admission, it is the intracies of the movement that places it in the exalted position of Numero Ono, but PLEASE, let us never again speak in vain of the UN Freak! Offshore
  15. For those who don't know of Rene Rivkin... a larger than life Aussie entrepreneur, worth millions, died bankrupt. The receiver is auctioning his watch collection online.... makes interesting viewing... and it wasn't a bad selection across the board! http://www.rivkinwatches.com.au/showcase/i...on=com_rntender DO NOT PRESS THAT OFFER BUTTON Offshore
  16. To add, Crystal glue, ( at least the GS Hypo cement), is a form of gasket material. If the instructions are followed, you allow the "cement" to tack off....and yes, it does have a form of bonding, but it is as much or more a "space filler". Offshore
  17. @drop, Everything you ever wanted to know, but were always afraid to ask! http://www.horologist.com/rolex_crown.htm Google.... triplock crown....Pg3! The search button is your friend! Offshore
  18. The admin team, and senior members, are often admonished, for pointing new members at the search button. Here again, is a classic example of insufficient research. Not taking a shot at Diesel, who has stated he was less than thorough in his research, more to point out that the admin team and older members are aware of the "history" of events such as this, and are aware of who has been banned and who are involved in questionable actions. The subject of modding is frequently discussed in admin, moreso of late, and is an area which can become "grey"... especially to enthusiatic newcomers. Caution can only be offered so many times, but it will never be as accepted, as some strong research on a subject! Finally we each make our own decisions as to what we want to do, how we spend our $$, and here we can see that Diesel accepts his misfortune, and now posts this as a further warning.... a warning that will only be seen by a current reader, or a newb in a months time, who reaches for the SEARCH button. The search button is your friend! Offshore
  19. Hero to Zero in 12 months. $1mill pa income to $0.00 in seconds! For those of you who have never heard of him, (and I suspect most won't) just Google for the sad story. Baaaaah ... drugs.... boy am I glad I grew up in a more uncomplicated era, when the worst our drug of choice gave us was a headache on Sunday morning! BUT it was LEGAL!!! So sad for so many... and sports stars seem to just so often fall into the trap. rant over. Offshore
  20. I'm sorry, but IMHO, the difference in cost from gen, has NO bearing! What is happening, is a beat up of replica watches, for no other reason than profit. I have sat back and watched this whole "super rep" saga, and I really see little difference between these so callled "Supers" and some of the $180- $250 ETA powered offerings of years gone by! In fact the ETA watches ( with genuine ETA movements) offered more than some of this latest rubbish being proffered. Super Rep..... closer to Super Rip. Time to take a stand. Where is Puggy when you need him! Offshore
  21. Gee, All the listings of links for support groups here in Australia... are to pubs and bars!... go figure! Offshore
  22. I think Ken is the "mod" in green!
  23. Well it may be the crown to tube thread, or it may also be the tube to case. You need to think this thru, Is the crown screwng down OK? and then things start to move?(Maybe the tube) Is the tube case, a thread fit or pressed? ( I don't know these) As I said ... think it thru. Offshore EDIT.. Just saw the other post on this.. there may be better info from owners in it!
  24. Well there will be a few more "withdrawals" after what happened to the other Kiwi rugby (League) side today! Wasn't a game.. it was a shame. Just a bad week for the Land of the Long White Cloud! Offshore
