  1. Originally it was subtitled "~Or~ If only I had freddy’s money…"
  2. I believe freddy and I used two different techniques in our builds. While I laid out all the parts quite orderly on a hunter green felt cloth and threw it all up in the air while canting 'ummmRooooleexxxxummm', freddy used the traditional method of falling asleep at his work desk in his chair while the watch elves finished the job. I didn't use the elves, labor dispute. It shows.
  3. I believe the 'Official RWG.cc Rolex White Dial 6542 History' can be found here: http://www.rwg.cc/topic/127434-pilot’s-cabin-or-executive-suite-no-the-mail-room/page__hl__yuen
  4. I just got an email from Phong announcing a sale on a 6542 reduced from $5500 to $4500. http://jewelryandwatch.com/index1.html
  5. Everyone seems to have an opinion. My opinion is that the white dial 6542 is not a fantasy dial at all, and was made by Rolex in the 1950s.
  6. Yes. I asked earlier and was answered, and confirmed with Clark's that the bezel for the 16610 and 16710 are the same, the click spring is different. So, I figure if I can get that case I can improve my 16710.
  7. Very nice! I am in complete agreement with you about everything you said on the insert.... I use the GMT function so I would use a DG3804B or an ETA 2846 converted. I want mine to look as close to gen as I can make it, but function is something only I will see.
  8. Maybe I'm confused! The case that bklm1234 has in his thread looks as though would work well with this bezel assemble for a gen-like 16710. Am I wrong? Do you know where the "SL'd 40mm Exp" is from?
  9. Yep, but it may be another month or so yet. The ones he has are diamond cut, flat. He is getting the gen looking curved hands made both for Rolex and for Tudor that fits our Asian ETA movements.
  10. I agree with freddy, there are cases that are quite acceptable to my eye. Silix case: Cartel case: And the 'Tiger' case I've come to like quite a bit: It's at 6,3 Euros but the last one to sell on Ebay went for $6.399 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Rolex-6542-GMT-Master-Men-s-Stainless-Steel-Watch-Pre-Owned-/180920428808?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item2a1fb2a908
  11. Can anyone tell me where I can get this case? Can I get it with lug holes? Thanks
  12. This is the link to his Ebay store. If you don't see something you need, email him and ask. He has stuff that isn't listed. http://stores.ebay.com/Clark-Watch-Parts?_rdc=1
  13. Blue lume would look awesome on that.
  14. Well, I might. The 16610 is a sapphire Submariner. Sounds like an alternative that would work.
  15. Yes. To do this: http://www.rwg.cc/topic/144657-making-a-gen-style-16710-case-out-of-a-16570-case-and-tw-bezel-assembly/page__pid__1089607#entry1089607
  16. Does anyone know if the 16610 bezel is the same as the 16710 bezel in looks and dimension? If so, can the 16710 click spring work on the 16610 bezel to be bi-directional?
  17. For me the song is not really depressing, but really hits all my buttons. It is about the realities of life. While the realities of being north of middle age might get me annoyed, it surely beats the alternative that so many I've known have met. I've been very fortunate, and got to see my Son grow to be a man. And like those before me, when told how fast that would go I paid no mind. Maybe the song, and a post, might slow others a bit to savor more. The human condition is such a silly thing.
  18. I gave my son a 'noob mariner' for graduation from high school. He'll be 24 next month, home for the summer, and we went to a family party Sunday. He was wearing that watch. He has put it through Hell while going to school in Hawaii, even cliff diving with it. It looks it's age and then some, all 'natural' wear and tear. He'll have his big degree soon, and I told him that when he lands that position he's working on, he can buy me a genuine GMT. He said 'Sure Dad. I'll just get it back anyway when you croak'. Brought a tear to my eye. As Harry Chapin sang, "And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me He'd grown up just like me My boy was just like me And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man on the moon When you comin' home son? I don't know when, but we'll get together then son You know we'll have a good time then" They grow up far too fast. That's a fact.
  19. That is the new hand that Rafflestime just introduced. http://www.rwg.cc/topic/148138-small-gmt-hand-for-rolex-6542-and-early-1675/page__hl__rafflestime
  20. No. The GMT pinion on the ETA 2893-2 is 1.7mm, the same as the genuine Rolex. The ETA/Asian 2836/2846 that are modified to GMT most often use a 2.0mm pinion, though I have seen up to 2.2mm
  21. The bezel looks like one from a 6542, and I believe the markers on the chapter ring dial should have surrounds. Very nice watch.
  22. Ask Ken for white,. he has them too. Any ETA hand will fit the ETA 28xx movement, including Tudor and Omega.
