  1. well first off, welcome to RWG you'll find that we have subforums here for every major brand; hopefully that is at least a good start from your perspective. as far as what the membership likes to talk about, i think you'll find a pretty representative cross-section of the broader watch world. now having said that, are big watches currently popular? obviously. as a result, i think you need to put things in context a little bit -- given current trends, there is going to be quite a bit of discussion about big watches on all watch forums. but that doesn't mean that they are the ONLY things we talk about here. me, i like watches of all sizes one of my favorite smaller watches is the old-version mbw patek phillipe aquanaut hope to see you around deltatahoe
  2. one more tidbit of useful information-- there is an interesting post here by PAMman about creating two frankens from a rep pam 127 and a genuine pam 111 deltatahoe
  3. i think an interesting question i'd be curious to hear other experiences about is the nature of the questions i get from people -- while some people have clearly done their research and have specific questions, the more frustrating thing to me is when people send PMs asking questions that have been answered 100s of times by the forum. i do my best to respond to everyone; i'd say most of the time people are appreciative. in most cases, people are pretty thankful in their initial email ("thanks in advance" or something similar as others have mentioned above); in terms of getting a "thank you" afterwards, it's a totally mixed bag. sometimes i get a thank you, sometimes i don't. just my $0.02 of course deltatahoe
  4. now that's what i call a helpful response. nicely done archibald deltatahoe
  5. interesting first choice for a pam -- any reason you went for a fantasy model (just curious)? i was going to suggest a europelli black shell cordovan strap with copper stitching (see picture below), but just checked and they are sold out of that particular strap a greg stevens horween black strap (with black stitching) would be pretty casual and fit the heft of the watch nicely.... deltatahoe
  6. totally agreed with everyone else's comments re: the skyland; i think the navitimer will always be analogous with breitling in the minds of most watch collectors deltatahoe
  7. hmmm....i'm wondering if possibly the exposure time has to do something with the way this picture looks... if i were a betting man, i'd guess both the hands and the stick markers are relumed with pure c1 superluminova, with the hands having a thicker application of lume (which is why they are glowing "brigher" relative to the markers). i did a quick check on my 5004, and the hands definitely glow a little bit brighter than the markers hope this helps, b
  8. oh me oh my wow -- just wow deltatahoe
  9. @lani, you have PM for everyone else who's wondering, here is what the lume should look like on the 5002 big pilot deltatahoe
  10. sorry, can't be of more help on this one -- linking to his tutorial is the extent of my knowledge on the subject deltatahoe
  11. i believe gioarmani's tutorial (found here) shows how to regulate both a standard ETA as well as a 7750... deltatahoe
  12. i must warn you -- panerai watches are VERY addictive. you can get a quick look at my favorites here deltatahoe
  13. holy smokes batman are my eyes playing tricks on me or does my dial say 610 meters??!?!! umm....err....i mean, haven't you heard about these? the 1665s with 610 meter dials are EXTREMELY rare known as the great white mathematician deltatahoe
  14. looks great lani actually, it looks really familiar here's mine (with slightly less mods & a flat t39 crystal) deltatahoe ps, couldn't agree more re: the white lume -- i think the people who are obsessed with brown lume are nuts
  15. randomly happened across this and felt it was worth bumping. great read; thanks nanuq deltatahoe
  16. looking good some bigger pictures would be nice though deltatahoe
  17. personally, i think it's ugly as sin however, they are trying to offer a rep of a real watch -- the platinum big pilot from "the father & son's watch" the genuine is equally as ugly deltatahoe
  18. given freddy's point re: AD's, i think i'll revised my post as follows: will new gen manufacturer prices fall as a result of the economy? no. will new gen AD prices (including any discount) fall as a result of the economy? probably. will used gen prices fall as a result of the economy? yes. will new rep prices fall as a result of the economy? no. will used rep prices fall as a result of the economy? yes. deltatahoe
  19. i think your poll should include the new vs. used distinction, as i think it is relevant to the question. my thoughts: will new gen prices fall as a result of the economy? no. will used gen prices fall as a result of the economy? yes. will new rep prices fall as a result of the economy? no. will used rep prices fall as a result of the economy? yes. just my $0.02 deltatahoe
  20. i've thought about doing a group shot before, but i can never seem to photograph multiple watches at once with any success anyone have suggestions on that front? i've been meaning to take some "family" photos with watches from each brand, but just haven't gotten around to it -- at any given point in time it seems like i've always got at least one watch off at the ziggy-spa or being AR coated... anyways, i'll do my best to try to take some group photos and/or a full-on group shot and post it here deltatahoe
  21. congrats robbie -- here's to a thousand more deltatahoe
  22. wow - quite the collection of gens is that an AP of sorts that i see? if so, how about some details... deltatahoe
  23. it's a beautiful watch, no doubt about that. i tried the big ingenieur on for size on multiple occasions to get comfortable with the size of the big pilot. i felt it was much sportier than the big pilot for some reason -- i think it must be the bezel design and the way the strap attaches to the case. did i mention that display caseback deltatahoe EDIT to add: i see toad agrees about the sportier elements of this watch; i have to disagree with rxus as well though -- i think the black gator strap completes the watch nicely. however i must say i felt it narrowed a little too much at the buckle for my liking (which seemed unbalanced to me given the heft of the watch). i think i could probably get over it though
