  1. the classic bazz water shots -- absolutely fantastic deltatahoe
  2. RobbieG posting about what a great watch this is in: 5....4....3....2....1.... deltatahoe ps, great watch & nice pictures; try it on a genuine rubberized leather strap like my 45 uPO here -- you won't be disappointed
  3. wow -- lots of info there...thanks for the link deltatahoe
  4. ok, so maybe the bezel and insert isn't all that remains the crown is actually the same crown that came with the rep. who knows....once i get the bezel & insert, maybe i'll send this one off to ziggy again (third time's a charm!) for a genuine 6mm crown thanks again for your keen eye deltatahoe
  5. thanks my friend; i read your review/guide and wasn't exactly sure if bk's bezel would fit on this case. i already had ziggy mod the crownguards (after the picture above was taken), so all that remains is a new bezel and insert i'll post pics when the watch is finally done thanks again deltatahoe
  6. if the sea dweller feels small, the sub will feel even smaller given it is thinner sounds like somebody needs a deep sea deltatahoe
  7. *must resist this yellow seawolf* great pictures bazz -- especially the spot-on genuine comparison wear it well deltatahoe
  8. i'm guessing that by-tor is going to be the right person to answer this question, but i'd love to hear from anyone else who knows the answer. i have a rolex gmt ii that i have made some pretty significant mods to, but i'm still not happy with my bezel insert. first a quick rundown on the watch. i bought it several years ago from a member on the board -- this was originally one of the incorrect hand stack versions with the really crappy dial. i managed to source one of the better dials from my dealer, and had ziggy replace the dial and install a new aftermarket bezel insert, which had to be sanded down to fit in the bezel. the picture below shows the watch after this work was done by ziggy. now, i subsequently after that picture was taken, i sent ziggy back my watch to mod the crownguards (as you can see from the picture they were totally oversized). upon getting the watch back, i've decided that i just can't live with the bezel insert, which as you can see has the top of the 6 sanded off to fit the bezel. so my question is this -- can i get a better bezel to fit on this watch and complete my watch, or am i stuck with this bezel (and insert)? thanks in advance for your help deltataohe
  9. great post dems and congratulations to teejay for the big day deltatahoe
  10. i have two different pair -- one with a closed ear design (for airplanes & blocking out noise) and one with an open ear design (so i can hear what else is going on in the world (like my phone ringing at work). for the closed ear design, i have a pair of shure e2c's; for the open ear design, i have a pair of the bang & olufsen a8's. i love them both; they are both different (and more than anything, feel different -- with the b&o's being significantly more comfortable) and serve different purposes. just my $0.02, deltatahoe
  11. i understand your frustration Dr. TuB, but i think you need to realize that by sending so many emails, you ended up in the "more trouble than it's worth" camp. i think if you'll take a step back and consider how many people want ziggy to do watch work for them, you will see why j chose to cut her losses and refund your deposit. if i were to guess, j has probably learned over time that people who ask so many questions on the front end end up being problematic customers on the back end (with unreasonable expectations with regard to work that is done). as offshore said earlier, drop it. you are only digging a deeper grave (which has already been laid). deltatahoe
  12. oh my goodness -- you sent j/ziggy 16 emails before even having any work done??!?! and you're claiming that j gave you "attitude" (effectively telling you to F-off)? what planet are you on? i didn't read even a smidgen of attitude in her email to you -- imho she was very gracious in telling you that enough is enough already. i'm sorry, but i just have to be honest in telling you that you're missing the boat on this deltatahoe
  13. i'm not familiar with any off-the-shelf retail aftermarket hublot straps, but for a custom strap, i would probably go with hk tan deltatahoe
  14. wow -- that comes as a surprise i think the datewheel looks more sunken than usual due to the date window being so small... anyways, thanks again for the great pictures -- extremely informative deltatahoe
  15. definitely curious to hear your thoughts lani -- i was planning on getting both deltatahoe
  16. @gavo, i'm selling a genuine super avenger dial (blue dial, big wings) in this sales thread if you're interested deltatahoe
  17. lani, both these new b&r's look great -- thanks for the fantastic pictures. i was wondering about the sunken datewheel, which seems likely to be the only obvious flaw (although i've never seen quality pictures of the gen, i can't imagine it has a sunken datewheel). deltatahoe ps, i think you definitely picked the best variations (arabic dial ss non-chrono and pvd chrono).
  18. the tuiga isn't my cup of tea, so i'm probably not the right person to ask. re: the $200 price difference, i'd email angus (or whoever you normally buy your reps from -- i'm more of a josh kind of guy myself...i just couldn't remember his hublot-specific website) and ask about what the differences are....one of the keys is the crown should NOT be screw-in. in terms of AR, chieftang's AR is better than any rep AR you're going to find (and certainly a lot cheaper than $200!!) anyways, hope this helps deltatahoe
  19. wow -- some great pictures bryan. the bezel insert is really unique looking -- i really like the way it looks grey in some pics *must resist another watch purchase* deltatahoe
  20. i feel like these two are some of the best values out there (i'd put the mellow yell on a black strap, but that's just me). deltatahoe
  21. that's a good question. i think the difference is that for an everyday watch, i want the ability to change up the look of the watch based on what i'm wearing (ie. throw on a black strap when i'm wearing a black belt & shoes). in terms of my "casual" watch, i knew that i wanted some sort of stainless steel rolex sports model in my collection; i think of it as a pretty basic, casual watch i can wear whenever i don't feel like deciding between my other watches but if i'm really honest with myself these two categories blur together quite a bit; i guess the reality is that i want two casual/everyday watches -- one on a strap, one on a stainless steel bracelet deltatahoe
  22. great thread robbie; being a crazy watch nut i definitely have thought about this stuff let me start by giving some background on my watch collecting. when i started collecting reps, i bought with reckless abandon (albeit still thinking about each purchase pretty carefully). the options were endless, and the excitement of getting these incredible replications at such a fraction of the cost of the genuine was too much to contain. over time i've accumulated a large collection of reps, and just recently i've been trying to make some tough decisions to sell my reps that aren't getting any wrist time. i realize i've gotten to a place where i have reps that i may still like, but given they aren't getting enough wrist time, i'm better off selling them and directing the funds to other watches (either rep or gen) i will enjoy more. however, the point still remains for me -- the thing i love about reps is the ability to have a variety of fun watches to wear at a substantially lower cost than buying the genuine versions. so i guess to answer your question about having a plan for my collection, in terms of reps, i have no plan now for gens, i absolutely have categories that i would like my watches to cover, which are as follows: sporty. a rugged sports watch that i don't have to worry about. it should be durable, waterproof and sporty. this category is currently satisfied with my first genuine watch, a sinn u2 on rubber strap. the things i love about this watch are as follows: a) the fact that it is made out of submarine quality steel. b) the argon gas filled case. c) the gmt complication. d) the extremely comfortable rubber strap. dressy. a nice dress watch. it should be a higher end brand, have some sort of complication(s) and be reasonably sized (ie. not huge). this category is currently satisfied with a jlc reverso grande date. the things i love about this watch are as follows: a) i feel the jlc is an appropriate dress watch given my age. even if i had the means, i don't feel i should be wearing a patek before the age of 45-50. b) similarly, i don't wear ANYthing gold (jewelry, belts, etc), so i like the fact that it is a stainless steel dress watch. c) the history of the reverso as an important part (the centerpiece?) of the jlc brand, as well as the ability to flip the watch around & see the beautiful movement. d) the seven day power reserve and date complications. e) the silver guilloche dial. everyday. a versatile, everyday beater watch on leather strap. this category is currently satisfied with a pam 112. the things i love about this watch are as follows: a) with the base dial and classic design with crown guard, i feel like the 112 epitomizes the panerai brand. b) it is extremely versatile, and looks good with a wide variety of leather straps. c) it can also be transformed into a sporty watch with a rubber strap. casual. a casual watch on stainless steel bracelet. this category is currently satisfied with a rolex 1675 vintage gmt. the things i love about this watch are as follows: a) the thin profile of the 1675 case, as well as the lightweight oyster bracelet, makes this watch extremely comfortable -- an absolute pleasure to wear. b) the acryllic crystal and matte dial, both of which results in a much warmer feel relative to modern rolex watches. c) the unique pepsi colored bezel insert; the history of the vintage gmt rolex. unique. a unique watch that is different than most other watches. this category is currently satisfied with a iwc big pilot 5004. the things i love about this watch are as follows: a) the history of the big pilot as an important part (the centerpiece?) of the iwc brand. b) the large, clean dial, as well as the unique crown. c) the seven day power reserve. d) the unique look of the watch on the pilot-style strap. other categories birthyear watch. i want to have a classic watch from the year i was born. for me, there is no question that this watch will be a vintage rolex. i've pretty much decided at this point that it is going to be a white rolex 1680, and i think i may have recently found the actual watch i would like to buy to fill this slot. as a side-point about the "birthyear watch," i plan to buy my son (assuming i have one at some point in time!) a classic watch made the year he is born, which i will look after for him of course until he is old enough to take care of it on his own. chronograph. i'm realizing i probably need a chronograph of some kind in the collection. i'm not totally sure what this watch will end up being, but a couple options i would consider would be as follows: a) rolex daytona, b) breitling navitimer, c) some other vintage breitling chronograph. not really. ideally, i'd like to have diversity of brands in my genuine watch collection. i hope you enjoyed reading the story behind my watch collecting; i know i've enjoyed thinking (and writing) about it deltatahoe
  23. fwiw, there is a good discussion of the safari in this thread... deltatahoe
  24. wouldn't it be great for someone reading this thread to be able to buy a complete franken kit complete with a v2 super avenger, gen dial and gen strap? deltatahoe
  25. i'm glad i saw this before the day's end. happy bday jennifer no snow here today either -- i spent most of the day at the beach this evening, i watched a beautiful sunset and an even better moon-rise (the moon was huge tonight) while drinking wine with friends. wish you guys could have been here to enjoy it with me deltatahoe
