i think even worse than both is having a watch that you're not happy with until you make some modifications, and having to wait either i) for parts to arrive or ii) for services to be rendered (ie. the next chieftang double AR run or your ziggy time slot that is months away).
for me at least, once the watches are off to the modder, the hard work and waiting is already done
just my $0.02,

looking good dave i had a similar project in the works but ultimately decided the SA was too big for me
totally agreed -- i'm actually wearing the blue dial skyland and genuine blue leather strap i bought from you today

ps, anyone looking to do a similar (gen dial) SA project that needs a dial, shoot me a PM
not sure why you would remove links from the lug end, but i'm confused as to why this ruined your bracelet. can't you just add the links back to the lug end of the bracelet (back to where you removed them from), then remove links from the clasp end of the bracelet?
what am i missing here?

so i was just in my messenger reading a PM and some bizarre music (ie. sounded like it was from a movie from 50 years ago) mysteriously started playing on my computer.
i think i might be going nuts
help?

my blue dial skyland (not totally sure what version it is, but i believe it is actually v1) definitely doesn't look black....sometimes it does look dark blue though. i unfortunately i don't have any of my own pictures to share -- just got this one from mickey padge.
EDIT to add: sorry about the huge pics -- somebody didn't resize when adding to imageshack
here are a couple of his pics:
hope this helps

fwiw, i will absolutely agree that here in the US non-watch people think of TAG as a high end watch brand; i think that is precisely why WIS don't have any respect for the brand
deltatahoe
oddly enough, this question has gotten a lot easier to answer since you've been gone....
i think most will agree that the bk v2 sub is by far the best sub (by-tor just did a review on this)

lani, if you're serious about bidding on this one you might ask beforehand if the bezel insert is tritium or luminova (obviously tritium would be correct given the dial & hands are tritium)
deltatahoe
wow -- looking forward to seeing this tale unravel. i'm assuming the owner of this watch is a board member?
here's to hoping the owner didn't drop $15+k on this one thinking it was all original

EDIT to add: unless i'm mistaken, early vintage 1675 GMTs (at least for a while) used a 1575 movement (with a non-adjustable GMT hand -- you rotate the bezel instead)
looking good D
maybe it's because they aren't seen as often, but the two watches that jump out of the box for me are the jlc master control memovox and the franck muller conquistador. both are beauties

definitely a tough call robbie, but i'm with dluddy -- go with the patek and don't look back.
it's an absolute classic, and imho every serious collector should add a patek to their collection at some point in their life for the very reason you stated -- it's an heirloom, not just a watch.

one other comment that's worth considering: you will be able to change up the look of the pam 212 by changing the strap, whereas there are fewer strap alternatives for the breitling chronomat evolution...
hope this helps

i think the watch boys gator straps could quite possibly be the best value strap for the money -- it is a really high quality strap. and kurt is an extremely nice guy; i wouldn't hesitate to buy a gator strap from him for your IWC for a second
