  1. Thank goodness for the Internet bubble crash several years ago. Anyone with $100 can hit eBay and buy an enterprise class server from a failed internet start-up in liquidation. I picked up a Dell dual Xeon server with 5-tray integral SCSI raid array for pocket change and use it for a firewall and file server in the basement of my house. I just looked at my server logs and noted that someone has been hitting my IP HARD AS HELL for the past 2 days, with close to 2000 IPs banned by the firewall for attempted intrusion. Now I'm not paranoid enough to think it's only me ... so there must be a botnet on the loose right now? Who can confirm this
  2. This new 1680 franken hasn't left my wrist for 4 days. (except to take this picture)
  3. Right ... I thought there was one more. There's even a .uk at the end of his web site's domain name.
  4. Thanks for all the kind words. Since I'm used to Steelfish/DSSD/BR 02 & 01, this thing with it's thin case and hollow mid-links feels lighter than a LifeSaver on my wrist.
  5. I think I can see just a tiny speck of dust under the crystal, there.
  6. No comments on the idea regarding one of Josh's new folded link bracelets for this watch? I like the look ...
  7. Oh. thank you FxrAndy, but I'm CONUS
  8. You are in the right place
  9. Yes, for now. Give a guy a chance I only got it 2 days ago I was thinking of sending Zig an email, to see if he has time to do his famous tritium colored superlume + service and regulation on this one.
  10. So forum member w0lf posted a for-sale of this lovely aged franken, and within 9 minutes, I'd completed the sale .. I have had a vintage itch for months, and I still want a sweet Great White, but this did the trick .. Puretime White Sub 1680 Silver datewheel with open 6,9 & flattop 3s OEM Rolex Triplock 24-703 crown WSO990 triple gasket tube 24-7030 Clark 25-127 crystal Case milled & custom retention ring by JMB Low beat 21.6Kvph Swiss ETA2846 movement Lugs drilled and holes buffed out to simulate wear Heavily aged insert Aged bracelet and case Correct 580 endlinks I'm thinking of a lovely folded bracelet ... whats your opinion on this?
  11. One I've noted is Narikaa. I believe there are others. Narikaa is not the kind of dealer with a fancy web site, like Amazon.co.uk ... he has a public photo gallery which you can look at, and choose. you are also free to email him with requests for watches he does not have pictured. He also makes occasional trips to Asia to hand pick good pieces, and then runs special limited-duration sales.
  12. An automatic watch is not battery powered. It's is self-winding mechanical. Automatic, then hand-wind, then Quartz (battery) OK?
  13. Narikaa's POrikaa is an awesome value watch @ about 100usd ... it looks very good. The UPO is at the high end, and accepts genuine parts, so you may create a pricey "franken" watch at your leisure.
  14. Oddly enough, I was thinking the exact same thing about my 1680 franken ... to pick up a folded bracelet from Mary and get it swapped out.
  15. Do you know how to create a torrent from it?
  16. enjoy your time here, and your new hobby.

Well yes ... Otto Frei and Cousins UK are sources of all kinds of watch movements for the hobbyist. I don't know which movement comes in your DayDate tho ... sorry!

Where are you in the World?
  19. i unpacked your zip'd images and it looks great! I love the whisper-thin "white gold" hour marker cups on the TRUE v5 models. It makes the v3 line (including their v5 ultimate) look like a fat pig is on the dial.
  20. I thought this was just a normal trailer park. Looks fairly average to me.
  21. From the article: Cult of Mac article (Apple bought controlling interest in Liquid Metal tech) If this material is torsionally un-suitable, I doubt they could create aerospace quality pipe nipples out of it .. the nipples would snap off. I understand that some iPhones and iPads ship with a Liquid Metal SIM card ejector tool, the size of a small paper clip. From what I read, it is un-bendable by hand unless you "hurt or cut your fingers"
  22. This aerospace part was cast (and finished) in one operation. No machining was required. It is made using LiquidMetal technology. If you know anything about machines, this is incredible. Scratch-proof, stronger than titanium at 1/3 the bulk, and corrosion-proof.
  23. Yes but then we have to wade through reams of ugly people and Ads .. we know Dr Gran will only bring us the very best photographic evidence.
  24. The sun was setting, I dropped my watch on some interesting pebbles and snapped this quickly in natural light.
