  1. David, To get the bezel off, try a razor blade and mask the case surfaces with masking tape. Perhaps it is quite possible to simply swap bezels with the crystals in instead of simply swapping crystals. This would eliminate the risk of a shattered crystal when being pressed back in (that is, if the bezel is correct on both). Not sure if any of this helps, but perhaps worth thinking about... Best, R
  2. Nice work! Your 005 is shaping up nicely!
  3. End price depending... This would be very nice to have. Though... The gold datewheel would need to be changed to a proper silver or white wheel... Interesting that this is being sold by watchco-australia, and watchco-usa is the current high bidder
  4. How about a custom made Rolex 1500 date? 34mm... Not too big, but not too small either. Very simple aesthetics... Basically, this watch would consist of a genuine case (purchased for $150.00; will probably include dial, crystal, bezel, crown tube), crown ($30), ETA 2824 ($60), hands ($40), datewheel overlay, and 19mm Oyster strap (price varies). The result would be a completely genuine watch on the exterior, with an ETA beating inside. Or, if you like a little larger, you can go with a 36mm DateJust like this 16234 I recently put together... This would open up the doors to more dial options (including the white ones with roman markers), bands, case sets, etc. Price is about the same to build....
  5. Roman markers... No question. Diamonds are not only a little out of place on a Daytona, but the the cz's will lack the fire that real diamonds have.
  6. And the balance keeps swinging? How is the time keeping?
  7. Bought my wife an EL DateJust to see how she did with it before considering the purchase of a gen. Let me just say... She has subjected this watch to some abuse, and it keeps on ticking away. She's glad I didn't spend the money on a genuine DJ... It does everything she needs in a watch and at a fraction of the cost (and still looks great).
  8. Going back to your initial pic... Having a second look at the insert, it very well may be genuine. The fonts on it certainly look genuine; MBW's insert fonts/markers are all quite thick and bold. At any rate... I am glad to hear that the situation is being addressed. Hope it all works out in the end. P.S. I have a non-genuine acrylic pearl I can send you to fill that hole... If you're interested, just send me an email Arthur!
  9. Haha... Yes, there is an end to the granite. Personally, I use the following set up: Studio in a Box Just put the light 'tent' and lights on the granite and shoot. For my camera... I have a 4yr old Canon Powershot A70. It's beat, and has seen better days, but it still performs decent, considering.
  10. Very nice, Speedy! I love it! Excellent job on those CG's! For reference sake... 7928's would have come with the coronet signed Triplock (or Twinlock for the older variants), as they are of the older vintage (1950's to 1970's). A 94010 like yours is a bit later in production (1970's - 1980's), and would have come with the shield signed Triplock, so in my opinion, that is correct. I love the vintage Tudors... I regret letting my old frankenstein 7928 go... I keep telling myself that if it ever surfaced for sale, I'd buy it back...
  11. Seems I have had bad luck... Most of mine arrive with problems. Missing screws (Seawolf Ti), terrible dials, bezel inserts with misaligned numbers (TW Best Sub), shoddy movements (80% of the DW's I've rec'd), poor quality bracelets (AP RO), misaligned date fonts... One of the reasons why I end up modding all of my watches... I'm my own QC when it comes to that stuff....
  12. Vintage MBW's typically don't need to be retapped. I don't recall if they need to be countersunk or not. For what it's worth... To install, I simply just thread the crown to the tube and then use the crown as leverage to drive the tube home....
  13. Just wedge a razor in between the bezel and the case and carefully work up while moving around the diameter. Should come up easily once you've got the razor in there...
  14. The last 3 tube jobs I've done did not turn out well, so I had to send them out to be removed. I suspect my error was in not heating up the tube enough to soften the glue. As for the crown... If you have a small pin vise, you can snug up the stem in that and then simply unthread the crown. Then, repeat the process with the new crown. Genuine Rolex crowns use the same diameter stem as ETA- Tap 10 if I recall correct.
  15. Better? Before After Before After
  16. Interesting. My Frankensub came equipped with a flat ring and prongs sticking up that provides the click. The TWG 21j Noobmariner I bought for parts also came with a similar ring for the click...
  17. All I can say is... If the package is coming from DW, one could probably drive over it and the contents would be okay....
  18. What do you guys think? Too dark?
  19. Fri; Franken-Sub Sat; Franken-Daytona Sun- Semi-Modded Royal Oak
  20. Personally, I would find this unacceptable. If the watch was described as 'new' or even in 'like new' condition, I would expect nothing less. This is clearly the furthest thing from.
  21. ETA 2824 in mine... Which is now getting daily wrist time under my father's ownership
  22. Somewhere right now, a Customs Agent has a very nice watch on his wrist... P.S. This could happen to a gen watch as well. With replicas, you mitigate your risk and loss to a lesser dollar figure...
