  1. WTF would you do with a rep Olympics medal...?
  2. Plus if it ever dies you can swap a Swiss ETA into it without any problems
  3. PbDad pearl on the way. Excited to see how it looks on this watch.
  4. ? You do know TC is not making the things in his basement, right? He's a guy who found a way to buy from a factory in China. He is not actually manufacturing them. He is not "perfecting" them; at most he can communicate to the factory what the buyers want and may be able to effect a change in what they make in the next production run.
  5. Physics Lots of people. All you have to do is manufacture a new set of transfer gears and make them jeweled, and make them to the same tolerances that a gen module manufacturer like Dubois-Depraz would.
  6. You are wrong. I have dropped two 2836s into two TC v4 cases without serious issues. Both are running just fine. The TC v4 case has the tube drilled at a slight downward angle. It gives a bit more flexibility on the stem height. Yes. Did it twice.
  7. Yep. Wore it today. I need to trim down my watch box some, there are some really nice pieces that don't get enough wrist time. Oh well. Good problem to have.
  8. This Sinn U2 is PbDad's work: Very bright, flat, no lumps, and there are no lume markers to work with, yet the corners on the dial lume are nice and crisp.
  9. Roll your own. I have not seen a decent Sub-C yet from the factory.
  10. Nah, it's just a joke, you know how it is I'll email the pic to him in a year or two
  11. Most of my friends know I work on watches as a hobby, so I frequently get requests to do things like change watch batteries. I like to make note of the date on the inside of the caseback with a sharpie, to get an idea of how long the battery lasts. I left a longer note inside this one, though
  12. You don't need to remove the bezel to remove the insert. A gen-spec crystal may physically fit, but it won't go in there very well. That case does not use a gen-spec crystal.
  13. Nothing is ever 100% interchangeable in this hobby. Ever. Having said that, yes, 99% of the time you should be able to swap entire movements without problems. Swapping parts from clone to clone or clone to Swiss can be problematic sometimes.
  14. Pry bezel off with a case knife. Press out crystal from bezel. If you have never removed hands from a watch before, you will break these. Seriously. I have worked on a couple of hundred watches, and I still pull chrono hands off of tubes sometimes. Rep hands are delicate.
  15. 1) Fantastic photos! 2) I told LHOOQ that I would do it for free, but he generously told me I could keep the gen pearl that was in his ruined insert, so I did get "paid" and it was very, very nice of him 3) The bezel looks like it's not pressed down evenly, the gap is a bit big on the crown side--I hope that's just the huge macro pic and the shadow exaggerating the effect! If I sent it out looking like that, I'm quite sorry!
  16. Then why not get an elabore grade 2836? Why bother switching to a 2824?
  17. ... a nasty hangnail and some dirty fingernails? Interesting hands, btw... are those temporary or the ones you're planning to use?
  18. I work in a professional services firm, no one is going to bat an eye and/or notice if I go through a different Submariner every day. I have no qualms about wearing my Subs, GMT II, Omega, PAMs etc in rotation. They're a dime a dozen at my firm. But if I were to wear a $15k+ watch, that might attract notice. If I were to slip up and wear three different ones three days in a row (HBB, AP Diver, 6263--it's easy to do!) people might start asking. Would it hurt my career if I was known as that guy who owns a bunch of expensive watches? Or that guy that owns a bunch of fake watches? Probably not, but on some things it's better to just fly under the radar. I'd rather be known for the quality of my work than what watches I wear.
  19. Yeah, I have one of those waiting on a few DWO from Trevor, but they should be here soon. I'm 31
  20. OK. My "mental upper limit" is about 9-10k, so I guess this will stay in the weekend/working from home rotation.
  21. Just out of curiosity, what would this have cost if it was a gen (and had no historical significance/value or anything)? I try not to wear watches to work that would cost more as gens than I could plausibly afford, that's why I'm asking. It's a Spinmaster built on a DW 7750 if anyone was curious. Bracelet is an aftermarket rivet with rep (rolex-stamped) endlinks and rep clasp.
  22. On the plus side, after this post motivated me to get it out of the box and look at it, I finally got around to fixing the minute totalizer... it wasn't working before, but a quick adjustment according to the ETA tutorial at swisslab got it working like a charm. So that's something.
  23. Don't cut up the DD module!!! That's just... wrong somehow
