  1. I prefer the version with indented bezel numbers, but I, too, like the white YMII. I doubt whether I would ever have the nerve to wear such a loud watch in public, but I think it would look great in 1 of my cases.
  2. Preaching to the choir here. There are many threads championing these wonderful watches
  3. They vary depending on model. Your best bet is to buy a Rolex parts catalog reprint on ebay.
  4. If the watch stopped after being dropped, you probably broke (or dislodged) 1 of the balance cap jewels in the shock mount. If you damaged a jewel in the auto-wind module, the watch might not to auto-wind, but it does not usually stop the watch.
  5. Search out Ziggy's reviews on the secs @ 6 7750.
  6. Nice work, but you should dull/matte its external finish. I have also found that fitting a bit of shrink wrap tube around cap helps to seal the valve & fills in a bit of the empty space.
  7. There are more guns per capita in Israel than just about anywhere else & (non-military/terrorist) gun-related crime is rare. Gun violence is due to cultural pathology, not firearms.
  8. & I am a lifelong democrat.
  9. You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children. Suddenly, a dangerous looking man with a huge knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, raises the knife, and charges. You are carrying a Glock .40 and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family. What do you do? Liberal Answer: Well, that's not enough information to answer the question! Does the man look poor or oppressed? Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack? Could we run away? What does my wife think? What about the kids? Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand? What does the law say about this situation? Does the Glock have an appropriate safety built into it? Why am I carrying a loaded gun and what kind of message does this send to society and my children? Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me? Does he definitely want to kill me or would he just be content to wound me? If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me? This is all so confusing! I need to debate this with some friends for a few days to try to come to a conclusion. Conservative Answer: BANG! Texan's Answer: BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! click... (sounds of reloading). Wife: "Sweetheart, he looks like he's still moving, what do you kids think?" Son: "Mom's right Dad, I saw it too..." BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! click. Daughter: "Nice group, Daddy! Were those the Winchester Silver Tips?"
  10. Ending the work week wearing my beater
  11. Unless you know otherwise, I would assume the tube is aftermarket & replace it with a gen (& matching 6mm crown).
  12. Repainted gen '42 dial. The original face was patina-ed to s-h-i-t, so I decided to have it (professionally) repainted in white. And here
  13. Search ebay for Acetimer (my oldest winder is 4 years old & never had a problem with any of them).

Not to worry. They all get the details wrong. Remember, I had to hand-paint the markers on my black MQ dial
  15. On most rep watches, the valve is nothing more than an engraving or etching on the (out)side of the case. A working He valve consists of a hole through the side of the case into which a functional valve is placed (read this for additional details). Whether the valve meets Rolex specs is another story altogether. Anyone actually performing deep or saturation diving should not put their life into the hands of a franken watch.

cc33 - I know these pre-assembled frankens are controversial (due to their high cost vs value of gen counterparts) & it is a beautiful timepiece, but I have 2 comments that I think bear attention - 1. The square index markers should be unpainted/mirrors on white Newmans (they are only painted black on the black version). 2. The movement looks pretty, but I would encourage you to have it professionally overhauled (disassembled, cleaned, oiled & timed) asap. Otherwise, enjoy it.
  17. In my experience, for most women, you cannot go wrong with a designer brand watch (preferably quartz). Chanel, Dior, Cartier, etc, all likely to produce a good reaction.
  18. I am with you on the platinum choice, but you cannot lose either way. That is some inheritance.
  19. Nice work on the Hev.
  20. Switching over to my beater for dinner (the CHS's rubber strap is making my wrist sweat)
  21. Thanks, but I prefer the Oyster bracelet for summer (the spaces between links allow air to flow). Unfortunately, the OEM-style Oyster is too blingy for my taste (I do not like the polished center links) & I do not like to modify the appearance of OEM-style bracelets. I keep the Oyster because it is pretty accurate &, who knows, my taste may change someday.
