  1. Obviously, the child was wronged, but there is something askew there. For 1 thing, dad keeps referring to the 'family', but where is mom? Is there a mom & why is she not in the picture? I am not sure what (other than being so emotional over a year after the event, which, by itself, raises questions as to dad's emotional state), but there is something unnatural & off about dad. I have a feeling the teachers had some type of issue with the family & were, wrongly, taking it out on the child? It seems to me that there is a big chunk of the story that is missing (as is usually the case with these types of shows). And I hate the way the hosts on these idiot shows aim to ratchet-up viewers' emotions by lowering their heads, talking ever-so-gently & getting all touchy-feely like they are petting small dogs or talking to the bereaved at a funeral. The only 1 who appears to have emotional issues is dad.
  2. If a thread is there, but pics are missing, the problem is with the pics &/or the pic hosting service. Your only option is to contact the pic hosting service to see if they are down. However, in most cases, either the pics got deleted or the user's account was deleted. So I am not sure there is much you can do about it. If the post comes up in a search, but you get an error in place of the thread (you cannot see any messages within the thread), then the thread was likely lost during 1 of the system upgrades. And, again, if it is lost, it is lost. While we feel your pain, we are all in the same boat.
  3. It could be the pic, but the date is not centered in the window, ROLEX does not appear to be centered relative to the coronet (which looks odd), the bracelet looks aftermarket, etc. And, although I am no expert, the diamonds lack the sparkle of the real thing.
  4. All Rolexes with 'jewels' look fake to me. Because Rolex only uses quality stones, a gemologist could tell you for sure.
  5. There is no such thing as overkill when fitting gen parts to a franken. Assuming you plan to keep the watch, the only real downside is that the more gen parts you fit, the more obvious the remaining non-gen parts become.
  6. Polishing removes the surface layer of the metal. Depending how deep that layer is & how much you remove, you may or may not reveal the underlying base metal. Unfortunately, with rep watches, there is no way to tell, before hand, whether polishing will damage the watch. This is 1 of the reasons it is best to avoid gold & two-toned reps.
  7. Wore a Sub today
  8. Ditto TeeJay (noting that a 40+ year old tritium dial that glows is a give-away of fakery), but are you aware of the missing paint at 7 o'clock?
  9. Congratulations &
  10. No, you are not doing something wrong. Many links were (irreparably) lost during 1 of the system upgrades.
  11. Glad to see you back. You can sell the DJ in the For Sale section & Ziggy is still the best for modding/repair. You can often find 1575 movements (either alone or within 1 of the many 60s/70s Rolex models that contained them) on ebay. Expect to spend around $1,000 +/- $200 for the movement. You can find a fairly useful listing of 1575-powered models here.
  12. Ditto Nanuq's suggestion, but you will need to send them a gen dial to refinish. They do work for Rolex, so they will not work on reps or frankens. Another option is this.
  13. I am not familiar with timeshops & without knowing which factory makes their watches, your question may provide a more useful response if directed solely at those who own the same watch. In general, flashed (or whatever marketing spin the rep seller wants to use) gold tends not to be very long-lived. The only sure-fire way to keeping the gold looking like gold (as opposed to its underlying base metal) is to keep the watch clean & in a case (never worn).
  14. Just after midnight & I am still wearing this
  15. ???
  16. Not to doubt anyone's credibility here, but that makes no sense. The 316 grade steel used to make cases for today's better reps is essentially the same steel that Rolex used until the 90s when they switched to medical grade 904L (chromium and nickel content was raised and copper added to the mix to reduce the pitting (due in part to the acids in skin) as is often seen on vintage cases). I find it difficult to believe that the metal detectors at LAX would be set (or able) to differentiate between the 2 types of steel, let alone why? There must be something else going on there.
  17. No. I installed the gen xtal & crown/tube & that is all. Mine is 1 of the 1st run from a few years ago, which were very accurate out of the box.
  18. Without seeing exactly which watch you are starting with (or knowing what an 'ultimare version' is), I think a gen xtal & rubberb strap are generally the best things you can do to improve a CHS GMTIIC
  19. Both MBW's & Phong's cases are made to accept gen parts, so I would agree with Ubi. I cannot see any reason why it would not fit.
  20. Still living the Newman dream (driving a 'Z(X) & wearing a '39)
  21. I cannot help you with the modern valve, but you can save alot of time/effort by getting the parts from here.
