  1. That's probably a record!! those were certainly not the "Good old Days" as some of us older folks like to remember the past. The only reps back then were watches for sale in the back of magazines, or in small shops, flea markets and on the street. I bought my first rep a Rolex DJ probably around that same time, maybe a little earlier. I kept that watch for several years and finally gave it to a friend who was the head of the respiratory therapy dept. at our local hospital where I practiced. He probably wore that watch for another ten or more years, every day. Totally wore the thing out!! They were pretty crappy compared to today, but at least this one had a Swiss ETA movement. Would be interesting to know how many others around have some of the old "magazine Ad" watches from the dim dark past!!
  2. I believe that the best course for you would be to either buy a new one from a Dealer, or hang around the sales forums as they come up for sale on occasion. The DSSD was a really "hot" watch a few years back when it first came out, but I really don't hear much about it any more. I had two over about a 2 year period from back in 2009. They are nice watches, however I found them to be somewhat top heavy, and thus they had a tendency to try to "turn Turtle" on my wrist. both of mine were sold relatively quickly, although I kept one for a while, because I had it relumed, movement serviced and the HEV sealed. Some of the old ones had Helium Escape valves that were made incorrectly, and they opened from outside pressure rather than inside pressure, these were prone to flooding in you went swimming or snorkeling with them. Buy one, try it for size, and if you like it, you can then decide how far you want to go with modding. When you start adding parts especially genuine Rolex parts, the costs can go through the roof pretty quickly!!
  3. Beautiful result. that is a lovely watch.
  4. Definitely would like two one for Safari, one for Rubberclad White dial, both are the old style fonts. I know you got screwed on the last project, I would be more than happy to put up a non refundable deposit for two. 3.panerai153 4.panerai153
  5. As of a couple of weeks ago, Mike was doing OK, not great but feeling well enough to buy a couple of watches that he was planning on having modded. He was pretty bummed out over the sales of his "watch dial" pens. He told me that he wasn't feeling well enough to spend a lot of time trying to sell pens on EBay. If he reads the thread, maybe he will stop in for a bit to say hello. He is a great guy, and one of the most generous of people you will ever come across. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Now that puretimes website is back up, I was able to find them. Only problem is, they are only available with a rubber strap for 70.00 USD each. I wanted two, but only bought one at that price. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Real beauty, The reason was you had not been bitten by the vintage "bug" back then!! Too young to appreciate the well aged vintages.

  9. Thanks A, been trying puretime, but their website has been down for several days. Will give Ryan a shout as well.
  10. If it's a watch I plan to keep, I figure in the price of a service into my watch budget. Of course if you intend to mod the watch, the logical time for a movement service would be while the watch is apart for modding. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  11. Gen crystals aren't AR'ed, only the cyclops is AR'ed. AFA the movement, I would factor in a service, no matter which you decide on. Gen bezel/insert would be a great addition, not cheap, also make sure that the watch is gen like construction and a gen bezel will fit. I would do a lot of reading and research before you commit to buying anything that you intend to mod. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Edge, Where can I find the strap buckle combo? I would spring for both strap/ buckle if I could find someone who sells them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I believe that your dial will determine your movement, as the 7750 and V72 dials are not interchangeable. Subdial spacing is different. Great start for a nice build. Put your dial on the movement and see if the subdial pinions hit the middle of the openings. If not you have an v72 dial. If they fit you will have to stick with the 7750 if you want to use that dial. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. It looks OK, I don't know when they started adding date codes, but the old 93150's are just year. I just looked up one at ChronoShop, identical to yours "G" code € 830.00 !! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. That should read AP ROO 20mm Tang buckle !!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Any ideas as to where I can find a couple of the new model '14 ROO buckles. These are the 20mm buckles that are on the latest releases of the 42mm ROO's. I have a couple of older ROO's that I would love to convert to the wider strap and 20mm buckles. I really find the deployant buckles very uncomfortable. Thanks
  17. I have been looking on Ebay and all over the internet, All I can find is a new watch with the Powermatic movement, and the cheapest I've found is over 400USD. I'll keep looking. Obviously these movements are closely held and regulated by the Swatch group, supply houses obviously can't get them.
  18. Edge, Are you working on a DW for the A7750 ROO's ? I know that a few months back, there was a good bit of talk about DW's for the A7750's. I would expect that those would sell like hotcakes!!
  19. Last day of November, what to wear? Maybe a nice AP?
  20. Beautiful collection!! Very nice selection of vintage Rolex. Is that a Bakelite or Lexan insert on the 1675, or are my old eyes playing tricks on me?
  21. Take a photo. Crowns are S/S and shouldn't be any flaking. Are you sure it isn't the plastic protective cover that they sometimes apply to the ends of the crown?
  22. I'm with you Diesel!! the older I get the more cold intolerant I become. Getting out and playing in the snow is definitely for younger guys!! Maybe fun for a few minutes, but then back to the fire for me.
