My great-great grandfather was killed by one of the cranes whilst helping to build the Titanic, if I recall correctly he was a shipwright. His wife was paid a small sum by way of compensation and also given a guarantee that anyone of his family, even to this day is automatically entitled to employment at the Yard. A small but ( almost ) interesting fact. Harland and Wolff shipyard employed thousands in it's hey day, but I doubt there are more than a thousand employed there today, and most of them are sub contracted.

For those of you now looking with suspicion at your Ultimate PO...

For those of you now looking with suspicion at your Ultimate PO...
pollux1 replied to r11co's topic in The Omega Area
Could someone please help me here, I bought an Ultimate PO from one of the "cartel" dealers just before Christmas at a cost of $258 including delivery. When I pull out the crown tube to the first position, just before the quick set date function, the rotor ratchets counter-clockwise but spins freely in the clockwise direction, is this correct for the SWISS ETA 2824 THAT I PAID FOR, or have I been royally shafted? *edit* Just to add, my hearing is not 100 %, but on listening closely, I can hear a quiet clicking sound when the rotor is wound clockwise. Please if anyone can tell me if i have the ETA movement i paid for or not, i'd be eternally grateful. -
Until this is resolved to the satisfaction of the board, i'll not be purchasing anything from the aforementioned "cartel" Something tells me that if enough of us do the same, it won't be long before things are put right.

I was thinking I could simply bin ( or give away ) the rep bracelets and fit the gen bracelet onto whichever watch suited me at the time.
-
Having read about various flaws regarding the smp, most notably to me is the bracelet screws ( this place teaches me too much! ) I was wondering, will my genuine smp bracelet fit the blue face standard and chrono smp? Thanks in advance ppl! ( My gen is a black faced SMP so I would like to change around if anyone was wondering.....)
-
The only thing putting me off buying both the smp in both chrono and non chrono is the screws instead of pins in the bracelet, hopefully there might be an update seeing as the PO has the correct bracelet. The rest of the faults i could live with.

So who sold the fake ETA then? -
The guys who make, market and distribute these watches from Asia do so to make a few quid, nothing wrong with that in my book. But I like most of the members of this site joined because we were getting shafted from all the dodgy rep sites who were charging more than we can get our reps for from the sellers here, so in essence even tho "our" sellers are doing wrong, as are we to a (small) degree too, at least we have one up on the scam sellers.

I'll second that, it's almost identical, quality wise as my gen smp.

Your comment on "spoiled, fat American women" Make you seem just as bigoted, insecure and stupid as the person you wish to chastise my friend. -
I watched "Hotel Rwanda" last week, Don Cheadle was an excellent choice to portray the lead character, also watched "Last king of Scotland" Forest Whittaker was good, although James McAvoy was outstanding as usual.

LOL! Of course I did in my ignorance assume the man would be using a tripod, silly me.

I'm simply a keen amateur, so don't take my word as law, however it USED to be a problem with Nikon a/f that it needed to focus on a "line" Let's say for instance you were to focus on a frame but a/f didn't engage properly, you simply re positioned the object or moved the camera accordingly, and hey presto, focus was achieved. To be perfectly honest, if the cam sensor failed to cope in any situation i'd be worried as the solution i've described is for much older cameras ( 35mm Nikon A/F ) .In the meantime you can focus manually, always better if you have a rangefinder built in to aid this, and take the camera back to the store you purchased it from to ascertain why it does this, I hope this helps.....Paul.

Hi all, A pal gave me a Chanel j12 he found, as he knew I liked watches and didn't like the look of it lol. Anyway, does anyone know of a way to tell if it's genuine or rep? It's an automatic j12, "possibly" men's size, two rows of diamonds around the bezel, looks pretty good, seems to be marked correctly, and doesn't look like any of the models the dealers here sell. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

I have a Nikon d100 outfit, mind you i've had Nikon for eleven years now so it was easier to stick with the same brand due to lens compatibility. A smashing slr and well worth a look.

Little White Lies We're Supposed To Tolerate?
pollux1 replied to Pugwash's topic in General Discussion
I for one applaud pugwash's posting, i'm a noob too, and I sincerely appreciate getting the facts as quickly as I can. However I also am fully aware that most of the buying public are ripped off by scam sites, which by and large, the dealers here do not do. perhaps all we need is some simple clarification of terms? -
I had an email from pp (genuine) that they had to have extra verification of who I was just because i'd transferred more than some eu penpushers says i can, and it may be used for money laundering, I mean WTF? It was hardly in the tens of thousands ffs.

Both pictures are fantastic, but the second is mesmerising. Did you use a filter for this shot?

My first car was a mini, very very old, and very very flucked, the last straw came when the gear stick decided to attach itself to my hand whilst driving. 'nuff said
