  1. Correct, once you buy a cheapie it is difficult to convert it to the Swiss or Asian eta. When I said buy a cheapie and replace the movement when it breaks I meant replace it with another cheapie.
  2. Doug - welcome to RWG! I think a lot of the sentiment around the lower priced movements like the two you mentioned are that they offer a cheaper way to increase the number of watches in you collection. They are typically good movements but most watch repair guys won't service them. Mainly because you can buy a replacement movement for about $20-30 and be done with it. Sometimes the watch you want is available with the same case/dial/bracelet as the higher priced versions with the Swiss movement or clone. In these situations it's a matter of preference, buy cheapie and replace movement if it breaks or swiss or clone version and get movement serviced. The higher priced movements are designed to be taken apart and serviced, some will argue but there is not that much of a difference between the Swiss eta and the Asian clone eta, they're both dry/dirty and in need of a service when you get them.
  3. Same as what Mike said.... Doesn't hurt to try but don't think many people are looking to buy homages. Weird considering how many here have these very homages of which you speak.
  4. Hi and thanks for stopping by, that machine is a timegrapher, in simple terms it can give you a glimpse at how well your watch is keeping time. On this machine first number from the left tells how close the rate is to being perfect. This correlates to the line you see, the more flat it is the better, up means gaining time down means loosing time. Other numbers on the display are important but more about those can be found here: http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/143934-how-to-read-timegrapher-results/ These are static observations, meaning at that particular time, temp, gravitational force etc... These and other factors can and will effect the mechanical movement's performance.
  5. When I say it went flying into oblivion, I was being conservative.... I was working over hard wood floors and I could hear it land quite some distance away and then slide on the floor for several seconds before it stopped. So no clue where it went and it is one small screw, I was just hopping for help finding the part number at Ofrei's as I find their web page challenging to navigate.
  6. So as it always happens, the last part to put on the movement before the watch is back in one peice goes flying accross the room into oblivion. I need the screw that holds the autowind rotor on for an ETA 2824 (Swiss not Asian if it matters). Can any one help point me to the right place, Ofrei's most assuredly has the screw but their webpage is a bit hard to navigate.... Thanks
  7. Welcome to RWG, as P153 said there is not a good quality TT sub rep. Have to build one your self to get a believable one and at that point it is very close to the price of a gen. So do it if you want the challenge of a project otherwise buy a good second hand gen.
  8. I could get behind that CW, love that wave dial.
  9. Eh, I'm going to vote no. It seems to be that about $30 is the magical raffle price. Too much higher and it seems to drag on. There are plenty of "boutique" brands out there that go for a bit less that would be a nice raffle watch without breaking the bank. But I do love me a Tag Heuer 500m Cal 5.... Just throwing that out there....
  10. Could it be a IR antenna? Meaning for hidden equipment you would run the wire to the equipment and put the "bubble" in line of sight to receive the signal.
  11. Uuh, uuh, were finally holding hands and singing kumbaya! Awesome, pass the s'mores! About time this thing came to a close...
  12. Ok, guess I just needed someone to point it out to me.... Thanks, someone has to ask a stupid question every now and then. Keeps the "who has the best sub?" in perspective.....
  13. Ok, I'm missing it. Where is the rule posted? I don't see it in the sales rules?
  14. I only hear bad things about guys that ship their rep back to the dealer for "repairs".... Just saying....
  15. Angus at puretime has been working on that project for over a year.... It will likely come, just don't hold your breath.
  16. + 1 I'd suggest raffling off the Borealis should have no problems getting 30-40 tickets for that one watch alone!
  17. Best I can tell Archie is the pant less (literally) guy that reviewed the watches of that guy that posted his watch collection on WUS a few weeks back. Thing is, some of them were dodgey at best and might have had a ringer in the group with another "vouching" that one of them was real. Most felt that they were reps.... Archie, literally wearing no pants, did a video were he said some hilarious stuff and got to love his screen presence. Someone still have a link to the video? Repost it please, I could use a great laugh! No wait, on second thought it was to painful to watch..... Edit: thanks fraggle
  18. Holy motherload! This is great stuff, thanks!
  19. Mike - thats a nice diver, I was eyeballing that on the bay. I really like it on that leather nato, hows that bracelet? typical rep quality or a bit better? I'm guessing there's little to no lume on that?
  20. I've never bought any of their stuff, but clearly they have a supply of some of the same stuff the rep makers use. Visually they look just like reps, at least the cheaper reps. If anyone has any of their stuff chime in, quality?
  21. What about a credit card processor like ccbill.com? They accept credit cards, wire transfers, electronic checks... Porn industry uses them so they shouldn't have an issue with us... The are able to set up recurring membership fees, one time fees, live video so we can get 24/7 feed of the sun rise/set outside of Nanuq's window....
  22. Ya, your right. It's total crap, save yourself the embaresment of wearing it and just send it to me.
  23. Would reccomend getting the noob version not the BP. Be careful and read the thread here or on rg about the issues with this version. White was felt to be the better dial but had more issues with the sloppy lume. I have a white noob and got a second bracelet to fix the clasp issues and got a good SEL fit after I parted the two bracelets to make one good bracelet and the other one is just ok. I am using the clasp from that bracelet on my RubberB on another watch.
  24. Old watch on a new RubberB strap with a EXP II clasp that I had laying around...
