  1. If you're not planning to use and ruin a gen dial or aren't either willing to pay a modder or do the work yourself perhaps you should consider other options.
  2. If it's in excellent condition I'd say about 400.00 considering it employs the eta 2678
  3. They're currently working on perfecting the 3135 clone. Be patient...sooner or later they'll have a 3185 clone available.
  4. LOL....I tried this awhile back with a gen 16800 insert.....the factory uses good paint too.
  5. Great job....great info...thanks for sharing. Good to see back around TB
  6. I've had a Black Rubber B strap for quite awhile...and have been waiting for the arrival of the Everest Bands Black Rubber Strap (EH-1S) It recently arrived and I must say I LOVE IT....Rubber B makes a great product....Everest Bands makes a BETTER one. IMHO the EH-1S is by far superior to the Rubber B in construction, comfort, appearance AND in cost (at 135.00 THIS strap cannot be beat.)
  7. I'd steer clear of that. It lacks most of being even a decent franken,.
  8. Where bezels are concerned.......nothing beats a gen Brother.
  9. Who is Minh? Would anyone have a link to his offerings?
  10. I don't think the Submariner will ever "come to pass". I've always been a Submariner fan and I'm not the "bling bling" kinda guy. The 116610 is a Beautiful piece in it's own right....but the shiny ceramic insert and the maxi-dial set up just isn't my style. Beautiful, but just not "me". The 16610 is an awesome piece as well (and an unforgettable icon) but I've found even the new shiny modern insert and glossy black dial, paired with deep, shiny rehaut to be "too much" for me as well. So it's the 16800 for me...with it's matte finish dial, fading insert and yes...those lug holes...to me all the Subs are awesome but I'm a die-hard 16800 Fan now
  11. I agree. It really looks pretty decent to me aside from the fact that the crystal is too tall, the crown position is too low and the bezel is Noob constructed. Trust me Brother...you "don't" want to pry that bezel off.
  12. AWESOME FRANKEN COLLECTION Brother. Now THAT'S how it's done. Wear them with pride and in good health. Thanks for sharing.
  13. Hey guys: TC brought a milestone to the board with his Submariner offerings. He's hit a snare along the way trying to bring us die-hard 16610 Fans a perfect insert and pearl......(this is by no means an easy task) http://tc-submariner...n-road-and.html He could use some help moving surplus parts and here's some great deals on those parts..... http://tc-submariner...parts-list.html Disregard the duplication for those that already know of this and for those that don't...this is an excellent route to take in your quest for the "perfect Submariner". I was asked to mention this and am only more than happy to do so. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK TC.
  14. Keep it and drop in a genuine movement. You'd be surprised how many there is of those out there looking to "get into a Rolex" as cheap as possible. And just as surprised to find how many gen owners have opted for quality aftermarket parts on their gens. Take a gen that's got an aftermarket bezel ring and bracelet and possibly crystal too. It's still a gen and there's still room on the market for it. Take your Sean build with everything gen but the movement and midcase. With a gen movement what's the difference between a gen with aftermarket add ons and a gen spec case with all gen parts added on and gen mvt. PT'd to factory spec and within COSC time-keeping specs. It's surprising how many are out there don't really care....gen case or not. With reps being what they've become today, it's more fun to build one that to shell out the cost of a gen. And to much of the average "working class dawg", if it's got a gen mvt., dial and hands, it's a gen. Because out of that group, not many even know the differences in the crystals, crowns, tubes and bezels. And many don't really care about the case and the bracelet and likely wouldn't know the differences if they did care. My point is Brother....with what you do and what you know to do and how to do I'm doubting a gen will stay exciting to you for very long at all. Now a Sean case built by you....for you....with a gen mvt and everything else it's got on it......it'll be far more rewarding to you and you're not likely to get bored with it. ......................just my .02 cents.
  15. Good job Brother...well done. That's going to be awesome!!
  16. That is simply amazing. Congradulations brother. You certainly have some remarkable skills
  17. But I just had to know so I did remove the mvt set screws and it does fit. And I tried the case back and it seems to clear the rotor too So with either the grove opened up a bit or somehow modding the way to mounting screws work...yes...the 3035 does fir this case. I've done my best to show the lack of clearance the mounting screws heads have in that groove. I believe with some work to the mounting screws or groove it would fit just fine. The stem doesn't seem to be in any kind of bind at all sitting in the case as is. I hope this helps .
  18. That's great info. UPDATE: Variations are consistant and they prevail....as usual Sean case M952340. bezel ring accepted a gen insert but not without the help of the press (same with the TC on my end.) gen Cal. 3035 movement won't fit this one due to the depth of the rehaut. ...the flared heads on the mvt. locking screws in the 3035 sit close to1mm too high (screwed all the way in) to slide into the case groove. I didn't take the time to remove the mvt screws as I'm not that comfortable toying with a gen mvt but in this case a 3035 wouldn't be a simple, straight drop in. It looks to me as though there's enough material above and below to groove to allow a skilled machinist to open the groove up enough to fit the mvt. screws or perhaps make the mvt. screws sit lower before they're backed out to lock the mvt. The genuine 16800 case back doesn't fit either so I have no idea if it'll be deep enough to clear the rotor.
  19. and last but not least...... Step 5 - new gen cost so much you're scared to wear it and put a scratch on and ya start thinking.."this isn't much fun", so............... Step 6 -you sell the new gen, start looking at the latest and greatest Franken-capable reps available in your flavor and..................... you're right to where ya started in the first place....and DAMMIT it's fun.
  20. I followed the link....to a manic depsessive web server....that's depressed....and wants to cry......LOL That was cool.
  21. Thanks Red. That's exactly the kind input I'm looking for and I appreciate it Brother. I'll be PM'ing you for more input and expert advice. The bezel assmbly came with the factory correct (and by the looks of it, original) pre LEC 2mm sapphire so I'll tuck it away. But this AR'd crystal really "works"...no problems at all with reading the date at a glance and from just about any angle on the wrist. Original is usually the way to go but my tired old eyes aren't what they once were. And the single 6 and 9 on the datewheel looks pretty darn good to me using this crystal.
  22. For the DSSD....I'd go with BK. I had one a couple years back....well worth it to let BK work his magik...IMHO http://www.rwg.cc/topic/118415-product-offering-noobfactory-dssd/
  23. I've been asked for the specs of this build, though most of the parts are listed and/or mentioned earlier in the thread They are: Sterile holed 3035 case to start a 16800 Submariner ( 9 million series 1986) -gen Cal.3035 mvt (currently running +8 secs per day on the wrist ) -gen 16800 tritium dial -gen tritium hands -gen 16800 bezel assembly -gen NOS tritium pearl insert -gen 295-CAR-CY1 crystal and 2.7mm gasket -gen NOS 24-703 crown (early version) -gen NOS 24-7030 tube -gen 3035/3135 stem -gen case gaskets for case back and retaining ring currently mounted on TC v2 93250 SEL bracelet -
