  1. Where???
  2. They already got 5 stars each in case you didn't notice!
  3. I really don't see this happening. Great Idea, but most dealers are already being honest. The ones that will resist any form of standardization are the same people that don't think much of the guy (guys) thats spearheaded this debate. They won't do it, not because its a bad idea, but because they will never do anything to give the impression that they are giving in to him (them).
  4. The RWG watch wasn't bad. The RWI watch? Not my cup of tea!
  5. Great point TTK. I've often wondered what the logic of sending back a $100 (retail) watch with a shipping charge of $25 each way. What's the point? My suggestion to you would be to have a "Damaged goods" section in your dealer section. So, say I buy a Sub from you for $120, and it arrives DOA. Rather than send it back, it gets posted in your section at a price you see fit, with payment to you. Customer ships watch, and once it is received by new owner, credit is applied. Plenty of "tinkerers" here that would eat that stuff up!
  6. Sweet watch, wear it well!
  7. I wonder if any of the group of talented watch experts that we have here would be interested in starting our own line of gen watches? We already know from our rep experience that we can retail a SS case/ Saphire/ AR/ Eta/ watch for about $250. This is far less than what the ADs are selling automatic watches, so why not start a watch company? I'm surprised that it it hasn't happened already!
  8. I think that, unlike myself, a lot of guys get in to this hobby with the intention of fooling people in to believing they have something that is genuinely valuable. They begin wearing their Omega reps around and invariably start to receive compliments under the premise that the watch is real. Thus, the lie begins, and with it the paranoia that one day they will be called out. There is a certain amount of guilt involved with living that lie. Wearing a nice watch shouldn't be like that. So the only way out is to buy genuine. I never try to dupe anybody, and openly admit to wearing and collecting reps. Most people are even more impressed by the quality of the rep than they would be by the genuine article. This honesty has kept the hobby fun for me. Also, because of a limited budget, I don't buy every watch that tickles my fancy. A new watch is fun, but its amazing how many beautiful pieces end up sitting in watch boxes, unworn. In the past year I acquired 5 new watches. This year I intend to cut that back to two or three. BTW, My next purchase will be a Seiko Orange Monster, simply because I like the watch.
  9. It would be nice if Zig would volunteer to check out one of these so called "serviced" watches. What are you going to do when 2 years from now when your "serviced" watch dies? Will the dealer even remember who you are, let alone that you gave him $100 to maximize the life of the watch?
  10. I once saw a member here who was visiting either Bangkok or China. He bought a couple of reps and was presented with the option of having them serviced at about $10 per watch. Now I understand that labor is cheap in these countries, but the fact that the 2 or three watches he bought were ready for him the next day leads me to believe that "Service", like "Super Lume", does not mean "Service" as in a complete tear down and oiling.
  11. Managed to pry the new Planet Ocean of my wrist (at least for today) in favor of this... Good luck with the MRI Pug!
  12. Try giving it a gentle slap or a good shake.
  13. Welcome aboard Jacob, and thanks for the review!
  14. With the crown in the wind position, gently insert a small screwdriver in the tiny hole (may be a button) near the crown stem. Gently press and pull the crown out at the same time. Use as large a screwdriver as the hole will allow, as using a pin or something too small risks screwing up the keyless works.
  15. I'm not qualified to do a movement review, but I do hope this unit uses the same hands as the ETA version. It would be nice to drop one of my spare movements in there!
  16. I posted some images of this watch last week, but now that I've had it on my wrist for a few days I figured it was about time to write a short review. This is basically the same watch as the Ultimate PO, but comes with what Trusty and Josh are calling their "Asian 2824", not the eta version that is in the Ultimate. Personally, I have no problem with Asian movements as I've never had a problem with any of them, even after a number of years of use. I do object however to the reference of "2824", obviously an indication that this is a copy of the eta version. This movement, unlike say the 7750, does not resemble the eta version at all. In my opinion there is no need for this. The movement itself seems pretty smooth. I would compare its feel to the 7750 in winding feel, and sound of the rotor (if you listen closely, you can hear it). The unit I received seems to be very accurate, and over the 5 days I've had it thus far, its lost only a hand full of seconds. The dial is nice but still contains a couple of obvious "tells". The hour marker edges are just a little more robust then the gen, and because of this, do not seem to hold as much lume, thus they appear to be slightly smaller, especially at the thin end. The Omega logo itself does not have the "flat feet" as on the gen. To me this is not as noticeable as the fact that the logo on the gen seems to have a perfectly flat top, whilst the rep seems to be slightly rounded and just not as sharp. This really affects the way the light reflects on it, and for me is the first thin I look for when trying to determine authenticity. The date window is good and the numbers line up perfectly. However, the asian version introduces another flaw in the fact that the font is serif and the numbers are more "square" in appearance. Not a big deal for me, but it may be something to think about if you are a perfectionist. The bezel is sweet, 120 clicks like the gen, not too stiff, not too loose. The insert is okay, but the pearl placement is slightly low. The crown on mine screws down smoothly, and the interior threaded crown tube is a treat. The bracelet is awesome. Nice and heavy, with a gen feel to it. My clasp is tight, unlike previous versions, and all markings are accurate and nicely engraved. A word of warning, the pins on these are very tight, and removing links is best left to a professional. I've never had a problem adjusting any bracelet, but this one caused me a couple of hours of stress and cost me one broken pin. I took it to my watchmaker who had it adjusted in about 5 minutes for a cost of $5. Like the gen, these now are equipped with an inner sleeve for each pin. This probably had something to do with my watchmaker never doubting this was anything but a genuine Omega. The Crystal is beautiful, sapphire, and coated on the inside only with AR coating. Not like the 2-sided coating of the gen, but a big step forward. Lume is very good. After 8 hours of sleep I can still tell time right down to the second. Pearl lume is very weak though. Now for the bad. I'm not sure if it has something to do with the popularity of these watches, but the quality control has really suffered as of late. On mine the pearl is way out of whack. The top half is recessed (under the insert), and the bottom half sticks out above the insert. It also leans a little to the right. Even more annoying is the 2:00 marker which is misaligned and points more toward the 9:00 marker, not the 8:00 marker that it should. Bottom Line. The "Ultimate Lite" is a great value for someone like me who already has a Planet Ocean 42mm, and really cant justify spending well over $200 for another version. At $128 this is a remarkable value for a watch that will fool just about anyone. If you are not equipped to fix the minor flaws however, you may find yourself obsessing at these defects. I have not seen a PO that is 100% in some time. From what Andrew has told me, the "Ultimate Lite" version is a commissioned piece by him and Josh, and is only available in limited quantities. Lets hope that this starts a trend in putting Asian movements in some of the higher end reps, making them more affordable to those of us who are on a budget!
  17. I take it that you relumed the pearl? How difficult was the pearl cup to remove from the bezel? I assume its just glued in?
  18. Now you will see what your dealer is really made of. Of course you are entitled to get a new watch, thats what you paid for.
  19. Interesting thought Narikaa.
  20. Hate to say it, but I honestly believe that this is only the tip of the iceberg. Losing Paypal is a pain, but I think that our little hobby will soon be targeted by forces a lot more threatening than Paypal. We are indulging in counterfeit goods, and openly flaunting it. Our reps have become so good that it would take a WIS to identify the genuine article. I believe that in the past, watch manufacturers tolerated us as quality was way off the mark, and Canal street merchandise posed no threat to their clientele. I work at one of Canada's largest financial companies, and you wouldn't believe the "high earners" that have shown real interest in my watches (I don't hide the fact that they are reps). If Paypal has found our little haven, the you can bet your ass that Rolex, Omega, Breitling, et al have found us too. The end may come sooner than you think, so get em while you can people. Just my opinion.
  21. Beautiful piece! I'd really like to see a side view of the strap if you don't mind. They look good from the front and back, but I'd like to see if it has that famous Breitling thickness to it.
  22. LOL, [censored]! Actually, looking at your gen shot, the pearl in mine is not bad in terms of size and fill. Its just a little off kilter. Maybe I'll have to take your disassembly one step further!
  23. @docblackrock - This is Trusty & Josh's Asian movement version that I have dubbed "Ultimate Lite". That would explain the font difference. As for the movement? feels very nice. Smooth winding, quite rotor, date change at 12:00 precisely. Besides that, it hasn't gained or lost even a second in about 36 hours. For $128 I consider this to be a steal! @Pugwash - Did you even attempt to remove your pearl and reset it? From your pics it looked to be seated in a little hole in the bezel. My guess is that it is glued in there, and could probably be removed and reset to perfection.
  24. Probably going to enjoy this one all weekend!
  25. I'm pretty sure that you could pick the luminous material out of the pearl cup, fill with superlume, then a drop of varnish. Only problem is that it would likely be brighter than the dial and markers.
