  1. Right now I'm listening to Jaydiohead! Jay-Z meets Radiohead If you like Jay-Z and not radiohead, then you will probably hate this, and vice versa. If you like both artists, you will probably dig it. For those that remember the classic "Grey Album" as mixed by Danger Mouse (Gnarls Barkley), here is the latest mash-up by a guy called Minty Fresh Beats. Yes, I know, mashups are so 2004! But this has some cool things in there. I'm loving "99 Anthems" and "No Karma"! You can stream or download here: http://www.jaydiohead.com/
  2. That was my first thought. Is the stem aligned properly in the case? It not, that needs to be solved first.
  3. Thanks everyone for your interest in this project. I'm very excited about it! I managed to get a few samples printed on some of the spoiled blanks I had. I must say they look pretty good. Still a few tweaks with the ink mixture to ensure a perfect clean print. ie. no bubbles in print, clean lines, etc. There are a LOT of variables involved in the printing process. The exact amount of thinner and hardener to compensate for humidity, temperature, etc. Anyway, most of you don't need to know about that, but I am enjoying learning something new. And this is the proper way to print genuine looking discs. The only hold up right now is getting some more blanks. As mentioned previously, I tried to paint the blanks myself, and ended up ruining what I had. I hope to have some more blanks soon to get the project rolling. **Very Important Update** Omega, a very esteemed and knowledgeable member, has informed me that there will be issues with date window alignment with some rep dials! The discs I am working on are being made to genuine dial and date window measurements. The print layout has been designed for a genuine date window. Some rep dials may be off slightly and you may end up with some numbers not being centered perfectly. Also, the "Flat 3 Top" disc I am working on is based on a genuine disc. The numbers are the exact same size as the genuine disc and may be too large for some rep date windows. I took some measurements of a bunch of dials I had tonight and found that the font size I have is perfect for a gen 1570 or 3035 style dials I have, but slightly too wide for a gen 3135 dial I have, and definitely too large for a rep dial I have. So the initial batch will will be for gen dials, and maybe a few rep dials. Good news is, seeing as my file is in vector, it is fairly easy to scale the numbers to fit a rep dial and move them over slightly for the rep date window. Anyway, I hope to have some new blanks soon so I can work on printing some great overlays.
  4. Hey Arch, Yes, you can fit a genuine bezel assembly on a Euro. I did it. Please see this LINK. It show a comparison as well. -- I don't know if the gen was modded to fit the MBW LV. Hopefully not -- If you source a gen assembly, no mods required to fit the Euro case -- Gen bezel, the WM should just snap in
  5. How is the movement being held in the case? Is it just floating in there? The case screws are not doing anything.
  6. Very nice! Any movement pics? Would love to see what is powering that baby!
  7. Yes, but you would have to remove the "Day" disc. The 2834-2 date disc sits lower in the mainplate than the 2846. By about 0.20mm. You wouldn't be able to use a 2846 disc in a 2834-2 if the Day disc is installed. The 2834-2 date disc site underneath the day disc.
  8. Happy New Year! Nice sub and pics!
  9. Aloha Lani, Well, we got another big dump on Christmas, and another 5 inches today. Here is a pic I took yesterday with Frosty. It is hard to capture snow in film, but it was snowing so hard yesterday that you could not miss it. It was my daughters 2nd birthday. Yes, she was born on Christmas day. And I will admit it. I'm now done with the snow.
  10. Merry Christmas from Vancouver! Peace and goodwill to all. Here is a pic of our street. I took this the other day, and it is still snowing and we got another 6 inches. Vancouver is not known to get much snow. So this is a treat for us! At least my family anyway.
  11. Finally! The Cliche (plate) has arrived. Here are a couple pics to show the very nice etching they did. I checked it under 10X loupe and it looks very crisp. I should be able to get some nice results. The fellow who made it, prints dials, so he said this is "swiss" quality. He made it of steel to achieve the best quality. sorry, I didn't bother to get out the tripod, so they pics are a bit blurry.
  12. Not likely. I would have to say it is probably lower. (further from dial) center stem to dial seat on 2678 is 2.30mm center stem to dial seat on 2836-2 is 2.25mm Also, the date disc is recessed in the 2678 mainplate, so a spacer would be needed between the dial and 2678 in order for the overlay to function. Probably adding another 0.10mm.
  13. She's a beauty Corgi! What part of the Great White North do you hail? Yes, Alligoat is correct, you need a closed font for the sapphire 16233. I really could have used an open font disc in champagne for this 16013 Franken. Instead I just used a genuine 3135 disc. Too late for a disc swap as this baby has already found a home is South FLA.
  14. Thanks everyone for your replies and interest! The plate is expected this week, so I started to prep my blanks. A slight hiccup. I am good at a lot of things, but need some practice when it comes to painting. I figured I could airbrush the blanks myself. Well, that did not go over so well. I blew through 1/2 of my blanks, and probably only have 10-15 that are good enough printing. I will need to get more blanks to fill everyone's requests. At least there will be a lot of discs to test print with. Anyway, I've sent an email to order more blanks, and found a couple of airbrush artists on craigslist to give me a quote to paint the blanks. They need to be perfect. Stay tuned. I hope to have some test printing done this week.
  15. Hey D, No problem to fit the larger diameter overlay on a smaller diameter movement. Rolex does it with the 2135 in midsize case... and I've done it with a mid size franken. Here is an ETA 2000 fit to a genuine Rolex movment holder. The diameter of the movement is 19.8mm. The genuine date disc is 21.5mm, and the dial is 24mm. The movement holder acts as the date disc seat. I'm sure that WM9 builds his V2 sub with the same concept. Here is the small movement in the movement holder: And here is the larger diameter date disc. (test fit over top the movement) I'm curious to see how he does it, but I'm sure it is the same idea. All he would need to do is machine the movment holder to support the date overlay as well as the dial. Please post some pics once you receive one.
  16. I've been working on this project for a long time and am very close to starting production. First up will be a batch of "Flat Top 3" overlays for your vintage projects. A very clean and precise vector image created from a genuine 1575 disc. The numbers have been laid out to match ETA progression. This version has the closed "6" in the "26". These will be printed in the traditional process as per genuine date discs. By Pad Printing. I have a quantity of brass blanks that arrived this week. These will be painted, then printed. I am reserving a small amount of blanks to attempt to produce the very coveted brushed radial silver finish. Not an easy task. but I will give it a shot. If this does not work, we will at least have the plain white discs to work with. A special jig was needed to hold the blanks while being printed. Below is a picture of one of the brass blanks, prior to painting, next to the disc holder. I have two different thickness of blanks. A thin brass blank that is 0.07mm thick, and a brass blank that is 0.18mm thick, as per gen. As mentioned, the first batch will be the "flat top 3". I next plan to produce the open font style for 3035, then the modern 3135 style. I expect the vintage style cliche to arrive early next week and I can begin some test printing of the blanks. What I need to know is what kind of interest is there out there for these? I currently have a limited amount of blanks, and would like to know how many of each style I should produce. If you are interested in this project, please let me know what style and thickness you would require. As far as price. My target price is $20 to $25. It all depends on quantity produced. For the brushed radial discs, these will definitely be a lot more money as there is a lot of work required to produce. Thanks!
  17. Been listening to a lot of the boss lately....
  18. From the picture listed, it is not ETA in my opinion. The screws that hold down the autowind assembly should be black, at least on every 2890, 2892-2, 2892-A2 I've seen. OEM, bulk, ETA CS, they all have black hardened screws. Also, in the pic, there are no eta marking, or even a 2892-A2 marking near the balance. Mind you, I'm guessing the photos are from a test fitting stage. The final product may be sold with a genuine ETA movement and they only used a cheap rep movement for test fitting purpose. That might explain the butcher job on the case screws. I know when I was in the development stage for the movement holders. All my test fittings were with an old dead movement and old dial.
  19. too bad it is not accurate. 16200 3035 16203 3035 16220 3035 16233 3035 16234 3035 16238 3035 16248 3035 16250 3035 16253 3035 16258 3035 Should be 3135, not 3035. I didn't get too deep into, so there may be a few more errors.
  20. Can I use this quote for a signature? That is the truth.
  21. I'm pretty sure that is a gen date disc. just a hunch.
  22. It's real nice!
  23. I signed up, but still do not have the invite to test. I really want to try it... playing mkv's on the apple TV, stream hulu and last.fm!
  24. It is the "feel", not the weight that is a dead giveaway. Nothing "feels" like gen. Not something easily replicated.
  25. Don't know what kind of tube it is, but I know a gen crown fits. I noticed that too when I got my V3. It had a less than average quality tube, but real [censored] to remove!
