Why RWI has removed Josh and Andrew as dealers
perry563 replied to seanf's topic in General Discussion
Thats fine but this is an illegal activity so it is most probably common practice to try to fix prices and do everything else necessary to make as much money as possible.....in other words...no rules. These boards which in many ways act as an liason between the dealers and those who want to buy reps should have guidelines that all "respected dealers" would be required to follow. If what we are saying is that none of them would ever agree to any guidelines then that is valuable info in of itself that should be told to those who read posts and buy watches through dealers who list products in these forums. I guess the real question would be..... why are there no rules of conduct for "respected" dealers? There should be so that everyone at the very least knows what is expected of them. ANY organization, any entity, any business that has no rules to govern them will run amok. -

Are there rules for "proper" dealer conduct and penalties for not following these rules? If not, why not? If we dont we should. If we dont then we are getting what we asked for. -

Excuse my ignorance...I still do not see any evidence that Andrew cooerced a dealer to keep prices high. The page that was posted showed coorespondance between Andrew and someone wanting to buy 10 AP Roo's but its unclear exactly what is going on here. First a price of 508 is mentioned then Andrew says he wants 600? I have gone through most of the pages in the thread on the other board but still dont see the actual evidence. Again I am not taking sides just want to know exactly what has been shown that tells everyone that Andrew is threatning a dealer so as to keep prices high. The other thing to consider is that price fixing was common in the US until stiff laws and penalties were enacted to prevent it from happening. Once again I say that if there is not a policy in place that is agreed to by the dealers before they are allowed to be listed as a "respected" dealer we only have ourselves to blame. The rep trade is an illegal activity and we all have to assume they will not prescribe to common sence reasoning and typical business laws. If we want this kind of thing to not take place (or at least make respected dealers wary of leaving a paper trail!) there needs to be a written policy that covers not only this area but all areas of dealing with board members who use these forums to decide which watches to buy and who to buy from. Price should be set by the market and not buy dealers banding together to set prices. Of course having a policy that is agreed to by respected dealers before they become respected dealers does not mean infractions wont occur. Dealers though will KNOW that if evidence is uncovered they are GONE and that is the type of check and balance that is required and needed. -

I am not taking anyones side here BUT......if we are going to hold dealers accountable for infractions then we need a written policy that outlines what is considered good and bad business behavior. If there are no rules then we are getting what we asked for. That being said....what are the rules? -

My feeling is that if any dealer is trying to price fix banning them from the boards is the correct thing to do. However something like this needs to be done with a level professionalism which would entail showing everyone exactly what evidence the ban is based upon. I have looked at most of the posts so far but I am not seeing the exact posts or coorespondance that has led to the ban. Can the admin please post the evidence they have word for word so everyone can assess its merit? The other side of the coin is......does the board have a written policy regarding what dealers can or cannot do? Is there a wriitten policy covering things like price fixing as something that would cause a dealer to be banned? If nothing like this exists then one should be developed. Taking this one step further IF a policy covering price fixing does not exisit then we are banning dealers who have not done anything against the rules! Does a rules of conduct covering dealers actions exisit? -

GMTIIC Owners - What is the Current state of your rep?
perry563 replied to freddy333's topic in The Rolex Area
No I am well aware. I own a GMT with a 2893 movement and it works like a charm. The GMT hand was losing time against the bezel markers. -
I have a GWSD. I have heard all sorts of things about this watch but the one TTK sent me had the correct caseback and a great hollow center link braclet. In terms of mods it all depends on how obsessive you are with absolute perfection and if you are willing to pay for it. For me all I want is a correct insert and pearl, CG trimming and the lug holes drilled with correct spring bars attached. I already had installed a Clark crystal. I think that once you complete these mods this watch is so close to gen only the very best could tell it was a rep. YES I know the dial is a giveaway to an expert but your just not going to find anyone like that in your normal travels. AND even if you do they wont notice the difference with the watch on your wrist from 5 feet away.

The watch was sent back the first time because when I set it the second time the gears that set the hour hand and date stripped. After a month or so I got the watch back and I noticed that the GMT hand kept losing time. Then I noticed that the regular time was also not keeping up. I wore the watch for a few days but nothing got any better. -

On its way back again (this is the second time. Have worn the watch for only 6 days total) for repair. A real mess. I fully expect that the watch will still have issues when I get it back this time. I asked for a new watch but the dealer ignored me. I spent 50 bucks so far in postage to RETURN the watch.....80 for postage in total. Can someone tell me what I am to do if I get the watch back and it still does not work correctly??? -
I have learned never to admit that a watch is a rep or telling anyone I collect reps. Its never looked at as anything positive. I have one friend who is a watch nut like me and I show him all my latest aquisitions but at the same time he has never bought one himself and he is never overly impressed. In all my years of wearing NICE watches both rep and gen only a handful of times has anyone paid notice to anything I was wearing. I leave it at that....I wear great looking watches, no one ever comments on them but if they do I never fess up that they are fake.

14060M nice Sub - easy to rep but where are to buy?

What about Eurotimz no date subs?...MBW. -
I saw Mama Mia and Wicked recently and both are teriffic. If you want a light hearted fun musical that will bring a smile to your face see Mama Mia. If you want more special effects and a more darker/interesting storyl ine see Wicked. I also saw "The Blue Man Group" off Broadway which was also very good and VERY different but its in a REAL dumpy theatre. Tickets are cheap though for Blue man. Actually if you are in NY for several days I would suggest taking in Mama Mia one night and The Blue Man group another. Be sure to book in advance as shows sell out very quickly and sometimes way in advance. as for FOOD be sure to try Havana Cabana restaurant which is just a few blocks off Broadway. Great atmosphere, food and the best Sangria in the city! As for everything in the city try to get reservations if they take them.

Buy the transformer GMT from Bk. He modds the watch and its backed by a 100% guarentee. If it ever fails you he will fix it and he is located in the US so no months of waiting for a broken watch being returned from Asia.

Stocks will eb and flow with the entire economy. If you are 40 you have nothing to worry about even if your 401k investment decreases dramaticly in value. Actually think of it as an opportunity as you now can buy "cheap" which will mean more $ once things bounce back...as they always eventually do. So if your down now that is to be expected since the entire market is way down. At your age I would invest aggessively with a combination of large cap, small and international equities. You can invest as much as around 16000 annually (depending on your plan) and I would try to maximize this as best you can. Pay off all major credit card debt and build for yourself a 6-12 month cushion in the bank just in case you lose your job. Also ...dont check you 401k balance all the time. It will fluxate day to day and week to week etc but whats important is that it rise over the long haul and that is to be expected.

I traveled down to mexico, central and SA for several years. I would not trust anything going through customs. I have heard many countries open all parcels and they take what they want. One coworker who has lived in mexico all his life insisted that he have Joshua send me his watch which I then sent to his brother in law in Boston who then hand carried it to him in Mexico. He did all this because he knew if it went through customs he would never get it.

How can I pull off wearing a High End Timepiece ?
perry563 replied to lanikai's topic in General Discussion
I have 40-50 watches split between rep and gen. I can count on 2-3 fingers over 7 years where anyone has ever asked me about a watch I was wearing. I am sure many notice but very few take that step to ask me about a watch they admire that is on my wrist. If you are like me a professional and dress the part you can wear aloost anything and its given a pass. If you dig ditches and wear a 8000 Rolex GMT its not going to fly. You would be better off buying yourself something like a tag aquaracer, omega planet ocean or Breitling steel fish. All great reps you can buy as a gen for a few thousand. -
Can you spot a fake just by glancing at it?
perry563 replied to William Campbell's topic in Introduction/Rules/Support
Buy yourself a fully modded BK mariner first which will cost you about 360 bucks. Wear it for a while since I have heard a new updated Navitimer is on its way. Once the new version is out which I assume will be an ULTIMATE version go ahead and buy it. Then you will have a nice Rollie and a Brightling. And NO neither of them would ever be spotted as a fake! -
I would be very careful about dropping the watch onto concrete. Saphire crystal is nearly scratch proof but will break under impact. Typically those things that are scratch resistant are at the same time brittle.

GMTIIC Owners - What is the state of your rep?
perry563 replied to freddy333's topic in The Rolex Area
Got my CHS version back from Andrew and its running well. Aside from the crystal still being uneven its close to 100%. Can someone confirm what exactly IS the correct hand stack..mine is (from dial) hour hand, GMT hand, minute hand, second hand....correct? -
Try SLOWLY winding it say 40-50 turns and then see what happens when you wear it for a while.
-
I am the proud owner of a Rolex GMT with 2893 movement. This was lightly modded by BK and I also added a very nice and correct bracelet with well polished link sides. The insert was the best I have ever seen in terms of a rep. The 2893 movement has been bulletproof.
