The Zigmeister nailed it, as usual! When I was about 14-15 years old, I enjoyed buying old mechanical clocks on flea markets.. If it was not working, I removed the movement and drained it in white spirit.. Then sprayed the whole thing with CRC 5-56 and put it back together.. Strangely, it worked! That was my introduction to mechanical watches!

Best wishes to you. I believe you have made the right decision. The life on the forums can be wild. I am sometimes almost scared about how involved and angry some people can be... After all, it is just about watches... dead items, no matter how nicely they tick. Every info about the "bad modders" are clearly visible for those who care to search... I was never in doubt about who was going to work on my watches... While it is a long way from aircraft technician to watch repair, it tells about technical know-how and attention to details. Those break-down articles is just amazing! I am still impressed by the work you did on my watches. The beauty is in the details.. I love the simple facts like that you seems to take care to insert the crown/stem so that the logo on the crown aligns nicely when it is screwed down. Good luck and enjoy the spring.

I like Universal Geneve. Their vintage Polarouters are cool, and has a special Microrotor movement. Titoni is another interesting Swiss brand, one of the few independed manufacturers in the lower price range. But, they use stock ETA-movements and bought-in cases, not very innovative. Girard-Perregaux is up and coming, I think. Nice divers! Longines... Great brand! Even though I expect Longines will always be in the shadow of Omega as long as they are under the same umbrella... :-/ All of these are old brands, with history.. Glycine as well. Their old Airman from the sixties is a cheap way to get something that reminds of the orange hand Rolex Explorer II, with true military pedigree.. Anonimo is just another "New kid on the block" for me.. Another one who wants to make money on the watch trend.. ( Nice design, though) Chase-Durer might be up and coming in Europe.. I have seen them mentioned in several magazines lately.. Not my cup of milk though...

Personally, I actually prefer the YM. I was a bit disappointed by the SFSO. Great watch, but the pearl is not as good as on the BCE/ Blackbird, bezel rotation is cheap feeling. While on my YM bezel rotation was very very good. The depth of he pattern on the SFSO dial is shallower than the gen.. The YM bracelet also feels way better than the SFSO. Still, both are good watches just two different styles!

A good initiative! I would be interested, but it depends on shipping costs to Europe. I know these cases from when I worked offshore, rugges stuff.. Never thought about using them as watch case, though!

Yep, this is described in the eBay guide... Vintage Seamaster 300 fake vs gen guide
-
Great pictures! It looks like they have improved the lume markers on the hour markers! That is the main thing which have stopped me from buying this. A gen dial just sold for 123 USD on eBay..

I remember seeing rather good replicas of these.. A very good looking watch, the PO has taken some design clues from this. I think one of the easiest tells of the fake is the "A" in "Waterproof" on the caseback. On the genuine it has flat top, but on the fake it is pointed. EDIT: Here is a link. <br> hxxp://reviews.ebay.com/How-to-Spot-a-Fake-Vintage-Omega-Seamaster-300_W0QQugidZ10000000000958528?ssPageName=BUYGD:CAT:-1:SEARCH:2

Nice watch! I am wearing my SSD ( Mark I ) as I type. Solid, heavy and well-built timepiece, I have no trouble living with the lack of "frontal rehaut" depth. Wear it well!
-
Well, I am going to send him a mail and ask why "Messerschmitt" is spelled "Messersc1477" on the caseback... His "experts" sure must have missed that!
-
Outstanding! Excellent job with the comparison pictures. I actually has got more respect for the genuine Hour Vision after reading your article.

New Generation of Chronomats Coming Out Soon!
chrgod replied to beanyboy's topic in The Breitling Area
I think the only thing to fix on the Chronomat would be to make the concentric patterns on the dial a bit sharper, date font (I wish) and sharper numbers/ markers on the bezel.. But, all this is minor stuff. The pearl has been improved from the first ultimate I bought, so I guess they are concentrating on this model! -
He has a nice Auqatimer chrono dial ( and one with scratches).. Hmm, could be interesting to swap into the Aquatimer reps, where the lume markers sometimes are not very well applied... I have also bought some parts from him before, no hassle!
-
I see that Trustytime has a new 46mm B&R, with correct hex screws on the caseback. The screws look to be installed a bit rough, though..
-
Great review; I must have missed it first time around! I am seriously considering the Speedmaster as my next rep, even though I feel that I am loaded with nice 7750-based chronos.

Test: The Breitling Avenger Seawolf Titanium
chrgod replied to Seadweller4000's topic in The Breitling Area
Excellent review! I remember when these were available.. Regret that I did not buy one back then. -
Vintage Poljot Shturmanskie for me.. Comerade Lenins choice...
-
In replicas, I would say yes. (considering the ratio between all replicas made and the number of replicas with a 7750 inside.) However, the 7750 is by far the most used chronograph movement in genuine chronos, and it is not hard to get.

Regarding the F.A. Jones. I actually wonder if it has been discontinued? I see that Silix is now listing it as "Not available". Still available at "trustytime88" though, for 158/ 168 USD.
-
Impressed by your job, Ape! You guys from Northern Norway are something special. I have done my time working on the Oil rigs, that is wet enough for a "Soring" like me!
-
Like these ones maybe...? But at 850-1000 USD they are expensive, and 50mm is too big for everyday wear. Black hands on a black dial seems silly, but it can be fixed. A good looker, but not an IWC case. Display caseback is a bit odd, but nice to see the movement. This one is the one I like best.. A striking dial! IWC Inscription on the inner lid. And, a clean movement.. But, I personally prefer this 42mm Omega. At 450, it is also a lot cheaper. Odd crown, but a good looker.

The Longines movement is beautiful... I don't know, but is the Unitas 6497 the modern equivalent to these old hand-wound movements with subdial seconds and no date?

Updated: Norwegische Kriegsmarine Copper 47mm
chrgod replied to mastergod's topic in The Panerai Area
Nice work! It is cool to see these Panerai homages. It really looks vintage.. Reminds me of the recent "Titanic-DNA" watch.. I recognize the logo... From the good old "Norgesglass". Standard inventory in every Norwegian kitchen from the 1940ties to the eighties.. Do you have a wristshot? -
Almost all his watches are converted pocket watches redialed to look like WW2military pieces (an interesting branch of the Replica game..). But, I agree that some of the watches look to be ok for the money. He also has some probably genuine pieces. I am tempted by the "RLM" (ReichLuftMinisterium) Luftwaffe watch.. Of course, the engraving on the caseback might have been done later.
