I would rate the Chopard Mille Miglia with Asian Valgranges copy as best buy ( about 90 USD shipped). In the higher price range, I personally like the Venus 175 powered vintage Daytonas. Cool, solid chrono which can be found for about 200 USD from some dealers...
Lot of gens in this thread, so I threw in a picture of my gen Oysterdate, 6694. Think I will wear this tomorrow. Actually, I find the small 35mm size comfortable. I modified a replica bracelet to fit the 19mm lugs.
This thread has become an RWG classic.. Just like the "TRL" thread back at old RWG!
I have given up the Aquatimer, for now at least. There are a bunch of other lovely 7750-based replicas out there... Still, good luck to those who wait!
Hmm... Yes, the numbers on Ruby's looks much closer to gen... My GF does not really care about AR, but it adds an "expensive" touch.
Thanks for the tip about TWP, vbarret! His seems to be yet another version, even better dial.
I am thinking of giving my girlfriend a Cartier Seatimer for Christmas. There seems to be some different versions on the market.
One is the version from Silix with double AR. Nice, but it lacks the white border around the date window, and the "8" seems a bit odd:
This is from Ruby, is about 50 USD more expensive. It seems to have a better dial and date font, but no AR. There are also some differences in the style of the numbers.
Do I dare to ask... Who has the best Seatimer..? Are there more versions out there.. Except for Cartier's ...
White faced genuine..
How can you get a flush datewheel by moving the GMT-gears? I had the understanding that the recessed datewheel was caused by the extra gears moving the 30-minutes chrono counter from 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock??
And now the replica is out. Only two and a half months after the Grand Carrera was launched by TAG Heuer... Maybe they rushed this model rather than the Aquatimer..
Carrera Grande at Silix
Not bad for the price I think, even though it is far from Super-replica quality. For some reason they omitted "automatic" from the dial...
At 41mm it is not quite what I would call "Grand". Classy watch, though!
Replica
Grand Carrera Chronograph. New Calibre 17RS movement.
Cool story.
I remember the first time somebody commented on my watch.... Last year I was in the US for the very first time (Houston). I had been shopping at Fry's ( the big electronic store) and at the exit there was a man who checked the contents of my bag against the receipt. As I held up the bag, he commented "Nice watch, what is it?". It made my day. Great customer care.
The watch I was wearing? Vintage 1972 Omega Speedmaster Professional Mark II, which I had bought three days earlier.
My previous GMT-Master and Explorer II, which had the "correct stack" movement. Nice watches, both of them.
On this pic, you can see that this GMT-Master has the incorrect small "ROLEX" print on the dial, same size as on the Explorer II.
Comparison with catalogue picture. Clearly different crown guards.
The "gunmetal" colored hour indicies on the white dial Explorer II, which are black on the gen.
Older vintage GMT-Master I rep, not bad for the price!
Really interesting!
The world of replicas never stops to amaze me.... A curious mix of modern machining skills and old-fashioned fix-it attitude..
Thanks for the information The Zigmeister!
A redial for sure... That "B" is off. For some reason there are a lot of redialed vintage Breitlings on the Bay, but whoever makes them, never get the B right.
Also, the caseback is not original, it has the later winged Breitling logo, which were not used until late 70ties...
"Rust on the movement", a redial, no crown/ pushers and a most likely worthless caseback.. Red flag from me..
I have also noticed the misaligned minute-track on many of the offical pictures of the "Racing"... I don't know the reason for that, it seems very odd... Must be some lack of QC at TAG Heuer..
The newest versions of the Carrera has decorated movement bridges as well, as on the gen. The first batches only had decorated rotor. However, the replica uses blue movement screws, while the gen uses stock steel ones.
A very very good watch!
Nice cars! Old Beemers are cool. The old six-series is to me the essence of BMW.
This is my car-wristshot, Ingenieur in my MX-5. A true drivers car, without Airbags, ESP, ABS, power windows, Air con or other gizmos.
