Ick. Some quartz movements are quite cool in their function, and can even be more complicated in their own right than some other mechanicals... Rolex Oyster-Quartz were for most parts identical to their mechanical counterparts, although running at a different speed with an electronic engine... Ronda moonphase (an example I have used before, but it's one of the best, but they don't stay in my collection long) others are fairly decent for their application... Citizen/Miyota OS 20 Chronos... (very nice for affordable low-mid range chronos), old Hamilton Electrics are amazing works, considering the state of technology at the time they were produced, making them very worthwhile, as are the 'other' (American) 'space watch,' the Bulova Accutron, but Modern No Date, Date and Day-Date quartz are bargain basement... SWATCH type crap, with NO POTENTIAL for continued investment value other than the occasional "THEME" watch that may or may not be sought after in the future (Bond Omega, maybe, but it will never, EVER have the same cach

and while you're at this.... Actually there are extant examples of the 6541 and 6543 with smooth bezels... the rarest of the rare... I've seen a brown dial 6541 with one... TTK's offering is close, the 'flaw' that bothers me most is the dial itself... where I would expect a "basketweave' look (straight or rotated 45 degrees for 'diamond shaped'), the dial looks like dipped door screen... not bad, just not accurate... other than that the hands are a bit short, but not as big a deal, as replacements would be easier to find than a more accurate dial, then there's the bracelet... but, the fun is in the chase, right?

I love the watch... and I think you have done an excellent job in modding the crown guards. AND, I'm glad you have a sense of humor enough not to take offense to my poking a bit o' fun... (I kinda figured you'd be looking for a new dial...) as to the bezel... well... "Units per Hour" just looks a little too 'outside' or 'high' to me... and while the font is correct for some models, the stamping just isn't 'sharp' enough to my eye... niggling, I know... the only other issue that is immediately noticeable to me is that the steel seems a bit too "chrome"... well, that, and the crown seems a bit 'thick'... and the pushers a bit long, and... there I go again... Just don't be too neurotic about the watch... It really is beautiful.

Very nice work... Now the single, most obvious tell is your sub-dial spacing... (then the bezel stamping and that furry DAYTONA, then... )

Christmas skin was missing pieces of the shoutbox too... Lasted about 35 seconds for me... Scary. And Scrooge would wear a GUB.

umm.... Ancient Chinese Secret. That, and I usually cut all the garbage after the item number out...

Nope, I saw that one... But, just so we're all clear, the one I was talking about is THIS GOLD DAYTONA...

Could I get some opinions on this watch and dealer?
POTR replied to supermoves's topic in The Rolex Area
I know that TTK would probably like to point out that only TTK sells Noobmariners.... And to find out about TTK, it would probably be a REALLY Super Move to search the forum, or PUSH HERE... -
Heh, Elwopo... I built my first computer from about 1975-77, dad had to buy the etching solution as they wouldn't sell acid to a kid... spent lots of time pulling together parts from various seconds and surplus dealers... it went from a hexdecimal keypad and 8 character/7segment display, to a full keyboard with RF for TV display by the time it was finally finished... it's mass storage came from a fairly famous electronics liquidator (whose name escapes me at the moment) and wore the same BSR badges as the turntables they sold so many of, I'm sure some of you remember the turntable ads... guess what the device(s) were? Dual 8-track recorders. Over the following years I built a few Heathkits, went through practically the whole lineup of TRS-80's, several Apples, Commodores from PET to 5001 to Vic20 to C-64, every iteration of Timex Sinclair, Coleco Adam, IBM's (XT, PC, AT, PC Jr), put my scrounging abilities to work and resold loads of parts through Computer Shopper (remember the "Gate Wars?")... First cell phones? Motorola DynaTac 8500, followed by the MicroTac8900, the MicroTac Ultra-Lite, the StarTac 550 (temporarily after I broke the Ultra-Lite), then the MicroTAC DPC 650E followed by the DPC 950E... also used to have a couple of "car phones" or transportables, a 4800 and a 1000, we called them "bag phones", for their snazzy nylon carrying cases for when they weren't in the car...

Start-Of-The-Week Wristcheck (26-27 Nov 2007)
POTR replied to Victoria's topic in General Discussion
Hmmm... given my last wristy post's apparent problems with low light situations, and the glaring lack of Subs today, I decided to go with something that didn't suffer from the low light problem and fills the gap at the same time... My "super-lume" Sub... -
Not. While the Gen's might be, his Reps are not, MILSPEC.

I think most consumer complaints in the US come from unrealistic expectations, and careless, lazy personalities... not that their aren't REAL problems among all brands... The V6 in my stepson's recently departed Sable (same V6 as the T-Bird/Jag S/Linc LS, etc..), was running perfect (and getting better than EPA estimated milage, outputting 1/10 or less than the various allowed emissions limits here in WA) when he stuffed up and made a left hand turn from the right hand lane infront of oncoming traffic... We've looked at Volvo's lineup and will possibly be "investing" in a Volvo this coming spring. Depends on what's available, and whether or not it meets my approval. Just be careful in your purchase, check the service records, take it to your mechanic (if you aren't mechanically inclined) and I am sure any non-abused Volvo will give you plenty of nearly trouble-free miles...

Were I in your position I just might go for a PS3 AND an xBox360 + HDDVD ... Which way does the wind blow? ... once the prices drop (It is Christmas season, afterall...)

It certainly looks Gen to me... Welcome to the "Group" Rod, I am sure you will enjoy yourself here... I, for one, can't take a pic worth a darn... maybe it's the lack of natural light in my cave?
