The vintage bezel that starts after "3" @ 200, is usually called the "200 Bezel"... and if you take longer than a minute to get from A to B then it will show how slow you are down to 50 X/ph. The Gen '200 Bezel' watches are rare, and therefore, desirable, and... expensive.
-
Ummm... depends on the unit of measure between A and B... if A is 1 Kilometer from B then, travelling from A to B in 60 seconds is 60 K/PH That is why it says UNITS. As an aside, there have been a couple of watches where the idiot engineers/designers at famous watch companies have actually gone to the trouble to do a "Dual Speed" bezel, where they went to extremes to put K/PH and M/PH measurements on the bezel together... the only problem is that if you are measuring K over time the bezel is WRONG... because the bezel converts M to K, not vice-versa (it would take 4 sets of numbers + hiding half depending on what the base measurement is for this to actually work) and no one thought about that before spending all the money on the development, tooling, marketing, production and delivery of said watches. That is the REAL reason why it should be UNITS.

George, I'm in the same boat as you... I think the "value" comes from his name recognition/expertise... while FM claims to have created the case design by perfecting the arc of each surface, it simply looks like the bastard grand-child of a Gruen Curvex (where he stole the name) and Omega Tonneau... lots of time in his movements though.

Nice torch... I've got an old 6P, a Z2, a G2Z and a new L7. All of them do their jobs admirably.

While I normally wouldn't argue with a person who, through self-proclamation, is an expert on fantasy. Modified is Modified, fantasy is NON-EXISTENT. Monster Trucks and sawed off shotguns are Modified... X-Wings and Light Sabers are Fantasy. Most of us have wives and girlfriends, some of them are Modified... you've got your other hobby you named yourself for and your Fantasy that goes with it.

Looking at pics is different than holding it in your hand, that is for sure...
-
Then the hands may be right for 20 years old... add ten years (78 (where I was thinking) instead of 88) to reflect the appearance of your nasty looking day date and your hands are too short.. The sticky datewheel/cocked dial look (set to non-giveaway date) in the first pic adds to the "Franken" look... For Pete's Sake change those freakin' loose/bent $2 pins in the bracelet and clean it up... why let a $15K watch go to the point where it looks like a $50 rep?
-
The watch is NOT 100% fantasy... there are several companies that sell PVD'd Subs... check out the Prohunter ling TMG gave you... you will see that the only thing missing from this 'fantasy' is the Prohunter lettering on the dial... You can also find the afore mentioned vintage PVD'd Vintage subs, GMT's and now Daytonas (I don't think they have updated their site yet)... at http://www.bamfordandsons.com/ under "Featured Products".

Bastard FrankenRep... Crap Aftermarket bezel, quality of the diamonds (color/clarity) is very inconsistent, incorrectly aligned... Possibly gen case... hard to tell... color is good... Possibly gen crown... looks right, but dirty... Possibly gen dial... looks basically right, but 60 doesn't look centered/dial looks cocked a couple of degrees, maybe pic angle + incorrect bezel alignment is affecting perception... Hands appear incorrect/aftermarket... probably. Bracelet is plated rep/aftermarket... color does not match case... plating worn... end links don't match case tightly... crappy looking clasp... filthy as hell... And my dong is bigger than everybody's...

There are a handful of companies that PVD coat Subs for resale... One clothier, who shall remain unnamed, only sells VINTAGE Rollies that are PVD'd, which I find abhorrent... MOST of the companies that PVD Rollies place their own name on the dial, in the usual spot, just above SUBMARINER...
-
The phrase "T Swiss Made T" means the watch is of Swiss manufacture <cough> and that the luminous material on the dial contains a quantity of tritium that emits less than 227 MBq (7.5 mCi). The phrase "Swiss T<25" means that the watch is of Swiss manufacture and that the luminous material on the dial contains a quantity of tritium that emits less than 925 MBq (25 mCi).

I have something more than 400 vintage Gen watches purchased "used"... I have one Rep purchased "used"... I rarely have any issues.

White Gold is a mix of gold and palladium and/or nickle... Nearly all white gold jewelery is Rhodium plated. Rhodium is related to platinum and palladium and is similar in characteristic color. As a plating material it is HARDER and much more durable than gold. Unplated "white" gold usually causes more allergy reactions due to nickel leeching than plated... Unplated "white" gold is also "cheapskate" white gold as it is cheaper (Rhodium is roughly 5 times more expensive than PLATINUM, and 10 times more expensive than Palladium)... I would like to see where any jeweler or watchmaker proclaims that their "white" gold is unplated... and their reasons for not doing so. The only situation where you can achieve the "proper" "white" gold color without plating is with a very high ratio of palladium (1/2 the price of gold, where's my discount?) or nickel (where's my bigger discount and where's the Doc? my wrist is rotting...)

Start-Of-The-Week Wristcheck (14-15 Jan 2008)
POTR replied to Victoria's topic in General Discussion
And now for something completely different... An even later and lazier dessert. SUB and Grub... Hand churned , fine french Vanilla ice cream served with Vanilla chip granola chunks, a modicum of hand blended Jamaica Rum and Vintage Sili-Sub. @Victoria above: "Churched?" Would there be something about these compositions which have us feeling guilty, naughty or dirty and wanting to confess? -
<cough> "White" Gold <cough> is RHODIUM PLATED. Gio, what's up with those endlinks bro?

Start-Of-The-Week Wristcheck (14-15 Jan 2008)
POTR replied to Victoria's topic in General Discussion
Since everyone is throwing change-ups and screwballs today, I, under the influence of massive doses of wildly interacting various pharmaceuticals, shall throw several curves... My late and lazy lunch... A non-wristie GUB, with GRUB... On today's menu is Salisbury Steak with my special mushroom, green pepper and onion gravy, a unique blend of Cal-Mati Brown, Heirloom Red, Sweet Brown and Wild Organic Rices, served with Bartlett pears and Glashutte Uhrenbetrieben on antique harvest table... Did you catch them all? -
To those who say a rare Rolex seen in the wild must be a fake
POTR replied to freddy333's topic in The Rolex Area
Heh... that one wouldn't be the best one to "prove" real rare rolex in the wild sightings exist... Oh, I know they do... It is just that this one, with it's "NEW" BRIGHT WHITE dial print, hands and date wheel combined with a NEW non-folded, non-rivet bracelet, all on a perfect thin case with early un-replaced valve, while the bezel looks modern... well... gee... better raise that estimate... -
I am sure someone is going to say Patek Sky-Moon Tourbillon.... But, I'd have to say "Father Time" is simply a crappy rep, created to deceive those who wish to be deceived...

I hardly watch any American television, outside of Monk, and a handful of shows on Discovery and History channels... but am fairly familiar with The Doctor, Dave Lister, George Sunday, Phil Mitchell, John "Abs" Denham... as far as visiting the cinema goes, I rarely waste the time... there are many more interesting things to do for a date... and, if something interests me, it will usually find it's way to me anyway...

Looks like everyone is up to their asses and elbows in PAMs and Hublots... so time for my usual change-up... Ok... I have pneumonia, and mixing the steroids, with the decongestants, my usual pain meds and "horse tranqs" have left be a bit schizo the last week or so... So, I am wearing a bit of a schizo watch... Hopefully, you can see the elements of this watch that make it so... appealing... in my present state... It is a nearly 40 year old Genova SS "Unbreakable" Diver with platinum dial, on a black 11" NATO... Notice that this cheap swiss classic has a genuine identity crisis. With the Benrus milspec style case, the Rado "Starliner" style high indices and baton hands, with a Early-Sub meets Blancpain true coin edge bezel, this watch says a lot, while managing not to be too obvious. Oh, and just in case anyone wants to know... YES. The bezel DOES FIT the "vintage" Sili-Sub... PERFECTLY.
