Ebel Discovery Panda or Chopard MM GT XXL Ltd. Gray
rek001 replied to rek001's topic in General Discussion
Hi, thanks for the replies. I did try on the Ebel at an AD, stunning, looked pretty decent on my 6.5" stick wrist too. The Chopard I haven't looked to hard for, maybe I'll go look this weekend. Thaanks again, I'll let you know what I find out at the AD. -
Ebel Discovery Panda or Chopard MM GT XXL Ltd. Gray
rek001 replied to rek001's topic in General Discussion
OK, I asked this question on repgeek and what are the chances that both forums would be getting together like this, so I'm taking advantage - right now I'm leaning toward buying the Chopard chrono and posting a WTB for the Ebel or waiting until someone wants to sell. C'mon guys, what do you say? -
Hi good people, lately I've been thinking about really well executed reps, what may be considered the state of the high art from the manufacturers. I came with 2 examples that I find very appealing, and that I'd love to own: 1. Ebel Discovery chrono, Panda dial 2. Chopard Mile Miglia Gt XXL chrono, Limited Edition, gray dial, rubber strap I'd love to spring for both, the total cost would be about $730, and I really shouldn't do that right now. I could...no, I shouldn't, sigh. The Ebel would be my first white dialed watch, a nice, refreshing addition to my collection. The Chopard is just so intriguing - the 12 and 6 hour numerals imbedded into the crystal, the way the subdial rings change with the light, wow. So what do you think? Thanks very much.
-
The concentric pattern on the gen dial is the exact same pattern I have on my V1 blue dial BCE, that's no light trick.
-
So I did some research and my dream of my first high quality mod was completely dashed. I spoke to Defender110 who told me this is a special limited edition dial - rhodium with silver subdials, and the only way to obtain it would be to send your gen BCE to the AD service center and pay $800 for the dial exchange. That's insane, the dial is approx. 1/4 the cost of the watch.
-
I really like this variant. Can anyone give me some advice on how to procure a gen silver dial, approx. how much it would cost and what would be the level of installation difficulty into a rep BCE please? Thanks much.
-
Always loved silver dials - subtle yet luminous, very elegant.

I don't care for stories where people laugh at other's expense/inexperience, even if the repair person was kind of bragging. They treated you very well, and at no charge, you took advantage of their services and then had the audacity to laugh at them?
-
Thanks for reply, Hike. Your photo captures the beauty and complexity of the watch so well...it's made me a future owner.
-
HikeUSA, your photo is wonderful...may I ask, which dealer did you use for your Mille Miglia LTD?

EuroTimez Open Letter to RWG Forum, We're back Full-Time.
rek001 replied to EuroTimez's topic in General Discussion
Hi Chris, welcome back and best of luck to you and your associates. I've never ordered from you but, based on your admission of problems and sincere attempts to fix things it seems like a good time to order a watch from you, which I may do. -
Very cool and different - so nice to see some interest in something other than the DSSD (putting on my flak jacket). Love that bezel. Wear it well, R.

That was a truly enjoyable read, TeeJay, thanks much for posting. So...did you ever find out what the HAL 2000 panel was?

Planet Ocean rep. rubber strap that does not collect dust...
rek001 replied to TmeShare's topic in The Omega Area
Apply some Armorall rubber preservative to it, gives it a nice smooth coating, dust will not stick. -
Some excellent points made, boy there are some real smarties here. The only thing I don't agree with is sneaking around the wife and buying reps on the sly when you promised not to. That's just not honorable. Just think how she would feel if she got you the Daytona and found out you broke your promise.

Here's one for Lanikai!
rek001 replied to ubiquitous's topic in The Two R's Watch Reviews - Lani & Ubi
Hey Ubi, how are you? I was wondering lately where you've been, hoping you haven't gotten bored with us. Superb piece, thanks for showing. -
I like it and size is no problem (6.5" wrist). I go to Honpo to browse on a regular basis, but not sure, what are the chances this will trickle down to our dealers?
-
Not a fan of the DSSD but I really appreciate what you've done here, Gio. You are very talented.
-
Lani, I know the pueo is a very powerful symbol in your culture, from what my hawaiian uke teacher has told us. Go for it - life is short, live well, but simply, unemcumbered by expensive possesions (except for watches, you can't have too many, lol). The older I get the more I realize that happiness is achieved through new life experiences, not jumbo mortgages, 3 car households or impulsive luxury buys.

Hey Chili, welcome back! I remember you, your avatar had a pic of you chomping on a cigar, maybe? Abay Paul never recovered from his "crasy sale", his cred went totally to hell. I believe he was bought out anyway. TTK has pretty much been banned from all the forums for non-delivery of merch. The secret source of MBWs has been revealed. What else...oh yeah, the external looks of reps has gone way up, amazing quality and variety, while the movements have crashed - hard to get gen high grade ETA any more.

I just received a Slevin with yellow markings from Hont, I don't have a cam handy but it's a truly beautiful, elegant watch superbly constructed. The SS is heavily brushed so it looks a bit like titanium. I, like you, have a skinny wrist, and I haven't had a chance to size down the bracelet yet. The only thing I'm concerned about is that the bracelet may not conform to the curve of my wrist well, because of the bracelet end links integrated into the lugs. The endlinks don't curve down enough, so the bracelet will stick up away from my wrist, and I may not be able to get the bracelet to fit snug enough for my liking. I'l just have to live it.
-
Looks good, may I ask, what size is your wrist?
-
It's a good start, but I'm going to wait on this one, until v4

I have a few nice pens and I would love to add one or two of yours to my collection, from the sample photos you showed, they are amazing.

D4M's Review of the Tag Heuer Formula 1 Quartz (all colors)
rek001 replied to Daytona4me's topic in The Tag Heuer Area
Very nice watch for the money, I like the white dial but the orange would be kind of fun. On Josh's site these have the ETA quartz movement, not bad. Where can these be gotten for $80?
