donerix Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 I build this one and decided to create a box for it too. I know it's more fantasy, but I wore it for a day and never had so many people comment about "what a cool watch" I was wearing: Right now the caseback is at the engraver trying to recreate this:
BGGodwin Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 Very cool watch! The vintage-ness is fantastic!
alligoat Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Nice job E! The cool thing about this watch is hardly anyone's going to know what it is! 6542, what is that? You could age the case and crystal a little to keep up with the dial and insert.
lhooq Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Fantastic work, and a meatball engraved on the caseback is going to make it extra special! I find that I love Pan-Am a lot more in death. Their in-flight service was terrible.
cht Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 wow, very impressive! Is that a 1680 crystal? Where did you get teh logo for the box cover? Looks great!
donerix Posted April 11, 2011 Author Report Posted April 11, 2011 wow, very impressive! Is that a 1680 crystal? Where did you get teh logo for the box cover? Looks great! Yes, it's a Clark 25-127, I thought it looked better than the 26-116 and the magification is great I found the logo sticker on ebay a few months ago, there is a lot of PAN-AM stuff
jmb Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 Really a nice looking box, is that silver inlay around the edges? Oh, watch is pretty slick, too!
TeeJay Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 Love it I may be wrong, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that all-blue insert GMTs were issued to the Peruvian Airforce As others've said above, absolutely love the box, the presentation really brings it all together
pr0digy30 Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 Lovin' it! If you can get a reasonable facsimile of that caseback... you can create a great backstory on that watch.
donerix Posted April 13, 2011 Author Report Posted April 13, 2011 Really a nice looking box, is that silver inlay around the edges? Oh, watch is pretty slick, too! No - white gold Ahhh - ok silver paint
jmb Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 Cool. You routed a small channel and filled it with silver paint? Did Pan-Am commission Datejusts as well? I have some extra rep DJ case-backs and I think a trip to the engraving machine might be in order!
lhooq Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 This may be more applicable to the albino GMTs of Freddy and JoeyB, but there were a bunch of very interesting pictures posted on a recent VRF thread. Here's a couple:
freddy333 Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 there were a bunch of very interesting pictures posted on a recent VRF thread. Here's a couple: I have not read the VRF thread, but, from the text of the letter, I smell something very fishy here. The letter seems to have been written by a non-English-speaking individual (I would guess Asian). Based on the letter's grammatical form, it is pretty clear that the author's native language is NOT English ('Send to you as a reminder that', 'I hope you'll like it makes a special decoration' & 'Don't forget to take the letter Sales Department'), which would make little sense coming from a 'John Ogilvie', Pan Am's U.S. General Manager, who, at the time, would have been based in Chicago. So I do not think it takes Sherlock Holmes to deduce that if the letter is fake.............. Now, on the other hand, my Pan Am incidentals are 100% genuine, so.............
praetor Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 ^ agree. No formal letter would ever go " something for you...something for my crews"
Jkay Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 I was wondering about that as well .. heh .. either the executive or his secretary was very drunk that day in August.
lhooq Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 Yep, there's something very "Good sir, please, my Uncle is former Prim Minester Ned Limpopo" about the whole thing!
lhooq Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Oh, brother. The guy who originally posted the pictures just responded to the charge that the letter may not be kosher: I can disclose this watch source and history. And also show the document, magazine and who sign the letter. I don't care you check it or not because I know that false document is a serious offense. If you can explain all information, or you have this watch. Please show for our. I believe that you have not strong reasons to explain. Emoticons fail me: BAH-HAHAHAHAHA!!!
