Hiya folks. Just stopping in for a sec. Been non-stop and knee deep in work among other things, but still building some things here and there when I have a spare moment or two.

Wanted to share this oddity with you guys, as I know if anyone would appreciate it, it would be my friends here :D

Just some pics for now... Hope you enjoy!

Thanks for the kind words!

I'm wondering how many of you think I've built a fantasy franken here? ^_^

nice franken ubi. I see that you used a champagne datewheel on a stainless steel datejust case (since it has lug holes? Maybe you can switch it up to a white datewheel hmmm.

Indeed... I did put this one together with champagne day/date wheels. I wanted a little splash of color, and in person the tone looks more like an aged, off white finish. I like it, but I suppose that's personal pref (Mrs. Ubi thinks white wheels would be better as well). I'll probably go with white day/date wheels with my white dial project. And speaking of the white dial... I somehow ended up with it while collecting parts. Since I tend to double down on everything when building projects, I always finish with some spare bits to entice me into continuing on to an additional piece. Part of my addiction I suppose.

My recipe list:

-Rolex 1556 movement

-Gen dial

-Gen hands

-Gen 25-118 (chosen for height; this crystal provided enough clearance for the hands)

-Gen 24-600

-Gen 24-6020

-Gen steel case modified for the 1556; ref and s/n erased

-Gen 1600 bezel

-Gen 78360

-Gen 580 ends (temporary solution for the time being, I'll switch to something a little more proper at a later date. For now, they work)

As for the 1665... It's still on the radar, but a bit forgotten. I have to admit that since I have a 5514, I kind of feel as though the 1665 might be a little... Redundant? Not like that's ever stopped me before  but I did want to tackle something a little different this go around. I'll get around to the SD sooner or later...

Love the "Yin-Yang" duo....

Hmmmmm... Black and white... Seems like I've almost come full circle, eh? :)

Indeed- The black dial is quite interesting. I rec'd it as-is and have only cleaned off some light marks on the surface; texture is otherwise unaltered (the coarse surface appears to be quite muted when viewed under the crystal). The only frustrating thing is that the luminous dots had been removed at some point in it's past... Some slight residue left over as a result but I am thankful that whoever removed the plots did so without scratching or knicking any paint off the surface.

One of the most difficult aspects of this project was finding a nice WG dial. I originally wanted a white dial with the 5 min numeral track (even better with red quarters); I was offered one, but I just couldn't see paying 1300 Euro for it. I was then offered the mint white dial and jumped on it (especially for the price paid). The matte black was already en route. Other choices were silver with stick markers and another with wide, fat markers (kind of like the gold dial on my other movement).

All in all, a fun little watch and good for someone like me who can't remember what day it is (kinda funny considering that most of my other watches don't even have a date function...) Heck, I don't even mind the slow set day/date...
