ubiquitous Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 Been a while since I’ve built a Rolex… And even longer since I’ve done a modern sapphire model at that About a month ago I came to the conclusion that I wanted to put together a daily beater for the Summer and decided on a classic Sub for this project. After much contemplation I chose to shift gears ever so slightly and build a Lunette Vert, mostly to add a little variation and color to my collection as my 5514 already bears the standard black/white Submariner combination. Ingredients: -TC case-Genuine 16610 ‘Maxi’ dial-Genuine 16610 ‘Maxi’ hands-Genuine 16610LV insert-Genuine Rolex caliber 3135-Genuine 704 crown/tube-Genuine 295C (older style w/o laser etch @ 6:00) I probably wouldn’t have opted to go the route of genuine movement due to the perceived build/gen cost ratio of a modern 16610, however I’m only $2500-ish in so the build made some dollar sense to me. The largest determining factor in this project was hinged on the fact that I managed to procure my 3135 for under $900 and I already had some of the parts in my spares box (i.e. the older 295C crystal, crown/tube, etc). Sure, I could probably have just picked up a gen 16610LV for $6k-ish, but that wouldn’t have been nearly as much fun (and over 2x the cost). Some (quick) pics... Thanks for looking! //ubi 2
kbh Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 When the Summer's over, I'll be happy to take it off your hands, even with a reasonable markup........
vlydog Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 Another amazing project R! Did everything fit together without modification?
freddy333 Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 Never been a fan of LVs, but great build as usual.
JoeyB Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 Been a while since I’ve built a Rolex… So, the loneliness of sanity got to you?
jpz5142 Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 Always a pleasure to see a build by Ubi, always something to aspire towards!
omgiv Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 It turned out great and I always love your pictures!!!
alligoat Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 Well, when you can pick up a 3135 for $900, what else is there to do? LVs aren't my cup of tea, but it's a beautiful build. Congrats R!I like the fact that the TC case takes a 3135.
chiman12 Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 Glad to see you are back in the rollie game R!
panerai153 Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 Beautiful build Sir. looks lovely, and should make a great summer watch. and of course when summer's over and the Aspens begin to turn, you can always find a home for it among us mere mortals!!
w0lf Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 Simply stunning, as always! That's an LV done right! Thank you for taking the time to do shoot the photos and do the writeup
pam007 Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 Absolutely Amazing. You just saved yourself 4k Also that Mark I dial matches perfectly with the shaved Rehaut. Now all you need is a flat 4 insert to be 100% period.
mjmj Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 Another nice looking piece. Somehow you have made the LV very attractive.
cc33 Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 Spectacular ubi, that is a perfect build. Great job!!
SSTEEL Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 Stunning work my friend, complete respect mate. Is that another build of yours, or is that a gen Daytona in your photos?
coolfire Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 Stunning work my friend, complete respect mate. Is that another build of yours, or is that a gen Daytona in your photos?
