  1. The lume is pretty well recessed and is using an acrylic binder so i should be ok. I relumed the bezel a couple of weeks ago so it really hasn't had much abuse yet I don't imagine that it'll be a problem though.
  2. Here's what you do. Look around. Read some great reviews Buy yourself a watch. Decide you want something else, buy that. Decide you want something else, buy that.... etc... etc... Eventually you'll have all the bases covered!
  3. If you compare it with a gen pic, the lume markers are different and the digital screens are not reflecting gold.
  4. Just found this on ioffer this morning. It says unavailable however, but if you look at the pic it's definately not a gen. Maybe this person jumped the gun with the offer? Listed at $149 I would have purchased it instantly. http://www.ioffer.com/i/Breitling-Airwolf-...ession-98118971
  5. If it was a pipe, the inside diameter woud expand as well... In theory the same should happen to a bezel ring - HOWEVER - it's pretty thin and it's an unstable shape. I would think that heat could easily cause warping. Heat it slowly and evenly, maybe by putting it in a pot of cold water on the stove, and bringing it up to a boil? When at temperature, I would also not force it at all to avoid creasing. But what the heck do I know LOL.
  6. I'm wondering if anyone has done this yet... I have a 4813 that has the short (standard) hour/minute wheel heights. I also have a noob with a 2813. Has anyone swapped the hour/minute wheels from a 2813 to a 4813 to get the correct height? Thanks.
  7. Brand recognition for most peeps I think. Then personal preference. When I started out, I didn't like Rolex due to it's relative diminutive size - I liked big watches. Since then I've fallen in love with an Omega 2255.80 and now own the gen. After owning several large watches, I now like my watches on the slim side so that they fit under a shirtsleeve. I think Omega and Rolex have a long history designing watches that other companies replicate, The trusty old SSD is now on it's way to me to be used as a daily beater. I appreciate it for it's history and simplicity the same way some people appreciate PAMs for the same reasons. Given all that, I still can't find myself wearing a PAM.
  8. Man - it doesn't get any better than that! I don't understand how anyone can say they are better than your gen-quality abilities.
  9. Thanks for the responses. As for the hand height, I bought one off the bay to put in a noob LV that I relumed and I couldn't get the hands back on. There is definitely a difference. The problem is, nobody lists it in the specs.
  10. It appears that Ajoe is out of stock, does anyone know where to source these with the correct cannon pin height? Either that or how hard is it to install an asian ETA copy in a noobmariner? Thanks, SMC
  11. That IWC work always amazes me when I see it The Zigmeister! I agree that having the whole thing redone by a professional with experience is the best way to go. Shortcuts frequently lead to higher costs in the long run.
  12. If you try the easy route and apply the glue to the front of the dial, it'll squish out and ruin the dial. Even if it doesn't squish out, it may leech out over the course of a couple of hours and again ruin the dial.
  13. It's not a hard thing to do with some patience. You'll need some tools, like a caseback opener, small non metal tweezers, hand pullers, screwdrivers and a 3-5x loupe. I also suggest wearing latex gloves so that you don't get fingerprints on the dial or hands. 1 - remove the movement. 2- remove the hands 3- remove the dial 4- use a pin to clean out the holes that the applied markers fit into, and on the back of the dial 5- dab a little bit of glue on the holes on the BACK of the dial 6- apply the marker to the front and hold it there till the glue starts to set. One at a time. 7- let the dial dry for a couple of days (put it and all of the other watch parts under an overturned glass to stop dust from settling on them). 8- put it all back together. --OR-- find a watchmaker in your area and pay him/her to do it.
  14. Not too hard to find, and pretty good prices these days. If you want a gen that is...
  15. You lose light with an extension tube right? For set up shots with good light it wouldn't be a problem, but if you are doing impromptu macros it may be. Could be wrong though as I'm too lazy to look it up
  16. Double coated means single coats on both sides of the crystal, not coated twice on one side. Single coat is usually the inside only.
  17. Well, I probably would have used WD-40. Sewing machine oil is a petroleum product and I wouldn't want that leeching out onto my skin all the time. WD-40 is made from herring oil.

    Real or fake?

I'm guessing franken/fake. The dial is iffy and so is the crown. What's up with the caseback being worn so bad?
  19. While I'm not a big fan of the design, or Invicta in general as a rep.. er... I mean "homage" maker...HOWEVER You have to look at that review on WUS, and think - here is a "swiss made" watch with warranty and a "swiss made" 2824 clone (not an asian copy) and it's going for little more than the super reps. Makes you wonder...
  20. Rubberclad is a watch? Man I thought you were talking about ... um...you know.. Trojans? I was thinking who would cheap out and save a couple of bucks on "rubberclads" - that's not an area where I would go cheap!
  21. Can't comment on Josh, but I have a blacksteel from someone else. It's the V2, and it's worth every bit of $430 in my book. Of course it's the fault of some unnamed members on this board that did a ridiculous review that brainwashed me into ordering one. One of the best purchases I've made! Thanks guys!
