  1. i'm with Lani on this...(albeit with a much less quantity/quality count as Lan...and that's an understatement as we all know!)... there's a definite balance between wearing and collecting...i rotate my watches almost daily - but like many, some are worn more than others...but it's tough to part with the ones that get less wrist time...when that day comes to wear the less worn, it's still really enjoyable...many are unique in design/look...and for that, they remain... 3. damn...charlie - that's a great looking Rollie... what are the details - of the watch and the vintaging process?... R-
  4. i agree with many of you on the quartz aspect - said best in Toad's first response... many of us buy watches for looks/quality/value...we buy reps because they have great designs...some members want replimanical perfection...others just want a great looking watch...and in some cases, the quartz versions fit that bill... i have quite a few quartz watches in my collection...many have the same casings/features as their more expensive cousins with auto movements... but seriously for "value" you can't beat some of them... thanks for the terrific pictures - great photography - and thanks for the tip on a great looking watch...R (another quartz watch tip: for those amongst us reading this, one of my latest fun/value watches are the AP ROO's - all white and all black dials...and they are quartz...Reg has them on a nice quality rubber strap for a similar price as this one...and they can also be had on that gorgeous ss bracelet, too...i posted a thread in the AP forum about them...)
  5. interesting the inconnection with many of us here of the Towers and the tragedy... April school break of 2001, we took the kids (at that time, 10, 8, 6) to NY -- somewhere i have pix of the kids with the Towers and Manhattan skyland in the background -- enroute to Ellis Island to visit the Statue of Liberty and to locate the remembrance of my Dad and grandparents who came to the USA via Bavaria/Germany when my Dad was 6... even though it was tough for children to understand "hate" in this world, we sat the kids down together and watched the coverage on TV that night...trying our best to explain, what is truly unexplainable... 11. special thanks to our new dealer HikeUSA...not sure if this is a standard model or if he takes special orders...pls pm him and/or reply to this post... one has to assume, without taking out the calipers, that this case is not meant for boney wristed rollies or cork-extractor grahams... psst...nice new avi, my friend!... and glad your signature pix is back...wasn't the same without it!... (did my leaving the lagoon for my hut inspire you?!)... R-
  12. Stephane - and others... a nice gesture of remembrance from our international friends here...as a proud American, thanks for the recognition... it is indeed a day of remembrance...and also a day of hope, determination and courage... together we stand...united we live...forever remembering and never forgeting... all the best to the families, friends, loved ones who not only suffered this tragedy, but also to the many heroes that arose to show how strong a people we are...
