  1. I don't think the $4.9K price is too bad, but certainly a little less would be better. You could be due for a service, that would add a few hundred to the price.
  2. OK, it's a lady's model. That being said, I'd doubt a reputable jeweler would be trying to pass off a rep for that price, which by the way is a bit high IMO.
  3. That's a Ladies model, right? That would explain the thick date font. What year is it?
  4. Both look ok to me, if they aren't gen, they're damn good reps!
  5. Rolex submariner bracelets are not that big a deal, so don't worry about wearing a rep bracelet, esp. a TC one- no one will notice. I wear a gen R serial 16610 a lot of the time and I took off the brand new 93150 bracelet that came with it (the R serial is a 25 yr old 16610- the first one that came out in 1988) and put on a rep 93150 with a gen clasp and the 501B end pieces that came w/ the new bracelet- you can't tell the difference except that the rep isn't in pristine shape. I also can't tell any difference in the color of the 904L steel case on the 16610 gen and the rep 316L bracelet. Until recently the all of the Rolex bracelets were 316L steel- just recently with the newer models did they switch to 904L. Enjoy your TC and get a watchmaker to change out the bezel insert if you buy a gen one. It's not that hard to do, but you need the right tools and a watchmaker should do it for you for $10-20. Cheaper than buying a press and the other tools you'll need.
  6. Looking good Freddy! Recently I've been looking at the 6238 in gold and it's running in the $100K+ range for a gen. So I've been wishing that I'd picked up a DW 6239 case in gold, and a dial to go with it. I'm also liking those 6241s more and more
  7. Yes, only the first run of LVs had the flat 4 insert, that would be the end of the Y serials, c.2003 and then came the F serial after that. Z serial is 2006 roughly
  8. Interesting find M! The subtle variations of Rolex are always fun to find. Edit: Here's one I found w/ BASE/MILE/ this would be early since it's 'SWISS" and old style hands- pre 1963 is my guess
  9. Thanks for pointing out the mq site again M- that silver 6238 looks better than the Phong dial, but has the MILE printed on the telemeter track, Phong has BASE, and the gen dials have nothing! Looking at the OP's original dial, those 6's are jumping out at me now, so I'd agree that it is probably Phong.
  10. Oops, my mistake- that is the Phong dial in the DW 6239 case. You can tell the Phong dial by looking at the 6s- they look like a G- drives me crazier! At any rate, I did put a 6238 cartel dial w/ an a7750 in a DW 6239 7750 case- here's the correct pic
  11. I have two of the A7750 dials but I'm not looking to sell them. You should be able to still find those watches somewhere. The Chinese have been building that model for 8-10 years now. One of mine I put in a DW 6239 case, the other is still in the rep case, but the movement was serviced by Ziggy a while back. I've found those A7750 movements to be a challenge Old Cartel version Cartel 6238 dial in DW 6239 case
  12. The gen 6238 doesn't have the notches in the case either. The dial has no lume dots at 3, 6, and 9 like the gen, that I can see from the pic. But you can see where Trevor's subdials are closer to the minute track than the Phong or your dial in question. very interesting!. First thing I'd do with the case is shave those notches off of those lugs! Bezel and the rest of the case looks decent. This is a 6238 case w/ a 6239 dial- gen This is a gold 6238- see the little indentitions in the case at the pushers- small Here's another gen fr Interwatches
  13. The dial looks like the cartel 6238 dial. It's hard to tell if the pushers are asymmetrical, but if they are, it could be the cartel 6238 with the Venus 175 movement in it where the subdial at 6 o'clock is fixed since the Venus 175 was a bicompax chronograph movement. If it was a 6238 with the V72 inside, it would be worth at least $2K, if not $3K! Tell the guy to show you a pic of the movement. I've built a 6238 w/ the V72 and I can tell you finding a decent dial is next to impossible. Mine came from Phong and it's not that good Case is also by Phong. BTW, if you were able to pick up the cartel 6238 with the Venus 175 inside for $200-300, it would be a good deal- they're not a bad looking rep.
  14. When the going gets rough, I do take off my gen Rolexes and wear a rep or a beater! I even took the pristine 93150 bracelet off of my R serial 16610 and put a rep bracelet w/ gen clasp on it so I wouldn't tear up the good bracelet with daily wear. But when I'm doing dirty stuff, I'll wear the 16800 franken or the Euromariner 16610 rather than mess up a $4K+ sub.
  15. The old style 703 crown was taller and it ran until maybe 2000. the new style crown is shorter, more squat. Ingelero's N serial crown is older and the m serials are the newer crown
  16. I prefer the old style pushers myself. This is a 6238 cartel dial in a DW 7750 6239 case.
  17. So a K series would be 11+ years old, but I'd figure you still paid around $5K usd.
  18. You can contact DW thru ebay and see if he has the 6241 case for a V72. I don't know if you can put a V72 in the 7750 case- but for $119, plus a bezel it's a cheap way to go, if it'll work. Lots of people have built V72 Daytonas w/ the DW cases. He used to have dials also, but things got a little screwy w/ DW a couple of years ago, so be careful!
  19. If you buy the Josh rep, don't plan on any mods- it's just for enjoyment. You can't make a Josh Daytona into a V72. I don't know the Yuki prices these days, but you're going to spend around $2500 to build a V72 powered Daytona like you have pictured. V72s run around $1000 plus a service these days- so already you're at $1300
  20. It could be a 6241. There was also a 6262 (or is it a 6264) with the 727 movement which also had the early style pump pushers. One of the TDs might have that model w/ the Venus movement in it- is it Josh? But I couldn't get into Josh's or Puretime's sites just now. Yuki has a dial for the 72B/727 movement http://www.yukiwatch.com/catalog/item/6380817/10005457.htm Also, Yuki has the 6263 case http://www.yukiwatch.com/catalog/item/6924997/7150081.htm Used to be that you could get a DW case, but those are harder to come by these days http://www.ebay.com/itm/DIY-CASE-FOR-ETA-7750-/231079288866?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&nma=true&si=WOsgesUalyjJVfXT7WbUXWVrz5c%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc You could change the bezel on this case. But it's for a 7750 movement. So your easiet deal would be to track down one of those vintage Daytonas with the Venus movement.
  21. Here you go Garyb, a Y serial w/o lugholes and the pointy 4 insert- a little later than the early Y serial w/ lugholes above All of this is around 2003
  22. Here's an early Y serial to compare with Mike's V6- the white ticks at the 5 minute marks are brighter and more pronounced Y serial is around 2003 when they switched to the 16610 T case, but the dials didn't change. Swiss Made dials started around 2000. Here's an M serial courtesy of ebay 5 minute marks seem lighter, but it could be the pic...
  23. I don't know. At the current price it's still cheap enough not to matter- you could try it and see- but the auction has 6 days to go....
  24. That case is for a Datejust Thunderbird, but it doesn't have the Thunderbird bezel anymore. The crystal sits too high- don't know if the Thunderbird has a different crystal or the case is different or what. Don't know if you could install a 25-295C crystal and get it back to the regular height to go with the engine turned bezel that's on there now. The clear caseback isn't that big a deal since no one will see it.
