    1601 case!

I've been happy with my 1601 case which I turned into a 1016. It was a very smooth build for me. 1601 case Relumed Yuki dial from LHOOQ bezel from jmb Clark's T-22 and Mercedes hands 24-600 crown- NOS 2824-2- swiss stilty space ring I like to think of it as an updated model with the newer engine- 28.8K beat. It passed the WR test so I'm happy.
  2. Luminova came out around 1998. Before that it was tritium. I've seen luminova dials marked Swiss- T<25 which I would think are early- I have one in my 16800. After that I've seen 1680 service dials marked Swiss, which are luminova also, just later. Rolex quit supporting the older watches quite a few years back- parts are no longer available- which means they'd rather sell you a new one. 1/2 life of tritium is 12 years so any dials from the 80s are pretty much dead at this point- might have just a slight glow but very weak.
  3. Nice job AP! The gen dial and insert are great and I agree, you've gone as far as you should with this one. I do like the gold plating of the sides of the center links.
  4. Isn't the maker of the dial Rolex? They started making their own dials in the late 80s early 90s. Can't remember if they bought out Beyeler in the process....
  5. Certain Heuers are too big- thay have bigger plates and don't fit in the Daytona case. Here's one from the late 50s- it's on the left Couldn't build a Daytona with this movement!
  6. Wear the heck out of this one, Absolutely! And then work on the dial and another crown and you're good to go Achieving perfection in a rep it impossible, but you can get close!
  7. Well, when you can pick up a 3135 for $900, what else is there to do? LVs aren't my cup of tea, but it's a beautiful build. Congrats R! I like the fact that the TC case takes a 3135.
  8. DW's dial wouldn't be too bad if the subdials weren't so heavily striated. here's a gen for comparison Don't pay any attention to the 6239 bezel
  9. I bought that watch from a place called Replica Factory. Paid too much for it , but it was my first rep before I found these forums. It wasn't long after that that I found the Replica Collector and the Trusted dealers and got serious about reps.
  10. This is my first replica from back in 2006- a white faced sub. The hour markers are a tad too big. The case wasn't that good, one of the old R863693 CN cases. I finally took the old 2836-1 movement and put it in another watch after having it serviced. I still have the dial, I've thought about having it relumed, but haven't done anything with it yet.
  11. Welcome aboard! You might checlk out trustytime- andrew. A guy over on RWI- Shieldsy- has bought some DDs and DJs from him and made out well.
  12. If you use the yuki 3135, you need the ST3135 case- right E? If you use a gen 3035, you need the ST3035 case. Don't know if you can find the right datewheel if you use the y3135. Some early 16610s had a DW with open 6s and 9s, but those are long gone for the most part. 3035 and 3135 DWs run in opposite directions.
  13. OK, so it looks like it's a DSSD. Thanks guys. And you know that those pancake house girls are probably feeling lonely since Tiger's had to clean up his act! But after giving up $100 million, only an idiot would keep fooling around like that!
  14. I recently built this gold DJ with a gen white dial from Yuki But it's somewhat lowkey with the dark brown croc strap Also, I've been doing this gold capped 1550 Date w/ an aftermarket jubilee At least the gold capped Date is gen! My true love is this YM and I have a decent rep of it, but I just can't bring myself to wear it much- just can't pull it off! I do likke the full gold subs, but it's another 'I can't pull it off' and I'm not going to spend the money for a gen!
  15. The Euromariner is just an MBW 16610. Don't know if Narikaa can get them still or not. The BK TW best would be the next best thing, but as someone said, they may be 2 months out on the wait list. But worth it IMO
  16. I cut my teeth on the noobmariner. It's where I learned to do mods. Trimmed the cgs, installed a gen crown and tube and put the WM pearl in the insert to bring it up to snuff. At that point it was an acceptable rep. Mine had an eta in it also. Here's a pic of it Now days noobs may be a little better- decent pearl, decent size crown, cgs are a little better. But I've moved on- a Euromariner with lugholes and a WM9 dial and hands and a 16800 matte dial in an ST3035 case. These are better reps in my mind since they take a gen bezel insert, crystal and bezel assembly- things the noob didn't do. Here's the 16800 matte dial
  17. Very nice job sneed! And a great little tutorial to boot.
  18. This isn't much of a pic, but the one in the Sprts section this morning was a little clearer- looked like a Submariner- maybe a 116610. Did Tiger ink a deal with Rolex this year? Can't remember!
  19. The gens do that also- don't ask me why....
  20. Looks good! Is this the ST case? Now days you're seeing more 16800s with the upgraded dials and hands.
  21. Excellent tutorial! I think that's pretty much covered it. I kinda like DJs myself
  22. Dang, it looks good but it has no lugholes!
  23. As long as your dial is an MBW 1680 dial, it should be an easy build. The MBW 1680 dial is smaller than the gen or aftermarket 1680 dials and measures 26.2mm as opposed to the gen dials (and aftermarket ones) at 26.5mm. AFAIK, all of the MBW 1680s are built using the 5513 case anyway, but the later ones are marked 1680 between the lugs, whereas the early 1680 MBWs were markied 5513 If you use a gen dial, you have to file down the OD of the dial or enlarge the dial seat of the case. Not easy, but it can be done.
  24. http://www.p-cls.com/rldds70101-daydate-fluted-midnight-blue-ssle-asian-2813-28800-p-13666.html http://www.p-cls.com/rldds70001a-daydate-fluted-midnight-blue-ssle-asian-283631-p-13665.html Like MD says, I'd go with the asian eta clone- the 2836-31. The 2813 may be a high beat, but it's still an asian 21j. But it may work for you, do you feel lucky? I'm not keen on these movements made to look like a Rolex 3135, but apparently they sell. But at least with an asian eta clone, a watchmaker can work on it.
  25. Looking good Tony, enjoy!
