  1. +1 c. 62-63, with white print and pre tritium- T < 25
  2. Looks like a noob LV to me- it's ok for the price- but you get what you pay for.
  3. I used a 2824-2 when I built my Explorer I with a DJ 1601 case- but the dial was flat But with a pie pan dial, I would think the movement would be shifted up in the case- I wonder if a 2836-2 would work better since the stem is lower than on a 2824-2 I wonder who else around here has built a 1600 DJ franken w/ the pie pan dial....
  4. The case tube that measures 2.43 on the bottom can only go in a 2.5mm hole, so it's a 5.3mm case tube. The tube with the 2.84mm bottom can only go in the 3.0mm hole, so it's a 6mm case tube A 1603 does take a 6mm case tube and crown- crown would be the 24-600-0. Case tube is 243-6000-0. Last 0 denotes stainless steel. On a 1500, I'm not sure, but it appears you have a 6mm assembly
  5. Are you sure the parts you have are 5.3mm and not 6mm parts? Your case tube that's too big is probably 6mm which takes a 3.0mm x .35 tap and the 5.3 tube takes a 2.5mm x .25 tap. A set of taps would be a good purchase. Also, if you're buying used crown on ebay, you have to realize that some sellers have no clue what they're selling.
  6. There is no blue insert for a 6205. If you're thinking of a faded grey insert, you pretty much have to make it yourself- by aging the insert. But the one that comes on the watch is all wrong with that pearl- the metal surround is not correct. Don't know if you could stick an Ofrei pearl in there- the all acrylic one- or not. Don't know if a 5513 insert would fit in there- if you buy the watch, then you can go to trying to fix the insert- good luck.
  7. Day-Dates can go either way- most have lume dots but not all. Also hands can have kume or not How's the end link fit on this watch? I can't tell if it's a Day Date case and bracelet or a DD bracelet and a DJ case. Dial looks good
  8. You're right, the sub insert won't fit a 16600/16660 SD. But why not just get a new pearl from watchmaterial.com? You might have to enlarge the hole where your old pearl was, but then you just glue it in there and you're good to go.
  9. Thanks R, I'll check that out when I get home tonight.
  10. Looking good! A new set of hands and a flatter crystal would definitely help.
  11. Well I tried some bracelets today- the presidential fit ok, but it just wasn't my style. The jubilee didn't fit- it's a rep bracelet and the end piecesjust never fit on any gen cases. Next up was the 7836 off of the Josh 1655 and a set of 455B rep end pieces which were on my 16014 DJ. That combo worked pretty well. I don't know if I have a 78360 bracelet in my pile of junk or not. I'll look some more tomorrow. I'd sure love to run across another set of the 455B end pieces- they seem to fit pretty well on the 16000 DJ cases.
  12. The crystal assembly for the 16800 and 16610 are the same so the gasket should be the same. Bezel assembly is also the same. Only thing that's slightly changed are the bezel inserts- no more tritium pearls, fonts on numbers change.
  13. The caseback gasket is 29-325-10 The gasket under the crystal retainer is 29-337-8 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Crystal-retainer-gaskets-For-Rolex-29-337-8-/230689458140?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35b629c7dc I'm still trying to get the 337 gasket to fit under my crystal retainer- I keep stretching it, hoping it will work. I have no idea what the case tube gaskets are- I just have a bunch left over from installing case tubes.
  14. Thanks guys and thanks KBH for the bracelet offer. I've got a presidential bracelet already, it came on my $60 Silix Datejust which I never wear. But I'm probably leaning more towards a 78360 oyster at this point if I do go metal. Or maybe a 7836- I think I have one of those also. My Datejust franken works well on a 93150, but I don't know if i'm going to get that 'sporty' on the DD.
  15. I think the no date crystal is the T-12. If that doesn't work, try the T-13. Clark's has both as I recall. I wonder if you need to use a 2824-2 instead of a 2846-2. Put the dial and the movement in the case and then sight thru the case tube hole. If the stem entrance to the movement is low, you need the narrower 2824-2 movement. That's what I used when I built my Explorer I in a 1601 DJ case.
  16. Thanks guys, and good to see you again Indy! I'm not exactly sure what Phong did to the case, but my guess is that he turned the case on a lathe and shortened the inside rehaut so that the movement sits higher in the case and the stem lines up correctly. The hands sit very high and I tried three crystals before a T-118 worked.
  17. I like it even though it's not right! Old style silver dial, 16000 datejust DW w/ open 6 on 16, polished DJ2 case and late model bracelet with SEL's and polished center links- but it sure looks nice.
  18. A year or so ago, Ubi built a beautiful pair of Day Dates, one with a black dial and one with a white dial. He used modified Datejust cases in stainless and old 1556 Rolex movements. They turned out beautifully to say the least. I fell in love with the white dialed DD and decided it would be a fun build to pursue. So I slowly began assembling the parts. One of the early items was a DJ 16000 case. Alas, it was only a midcase with a case tube- no caseback. Next I got a white refinished DD dial for the 1800 series watches and finally a couple of months ago I landed a 1556 movt on ebay for a decent price. I picked up some crystals from Clarks (T-114, 135 and 118), some hands and a 1500 series stem. Luckily I was able to use a rep fluted bezel since I had nothing else lying around. The final purchase was a nice 600 series used crown. It all came together today and I'm pretty happy with the results The dial is the pie-pan dial and I love the white color on it. The date and day wheels are what might be a light silver color. When I bought the movement, it came with a black dial and I just thought the DD wheels were white. Now I'm not sure- are they an aged white or a light silver? Nevertheless, they are a shade darker than the white dial. Thank God they're not champagne! Finding old stock 1556 parts could be tough these days. Here's a parting wrist shot below. I'm still struggling with my iPhone and picture talking- my wife says life would be easier if I got the iPhone 4s! I'm still on a croc like leather strap for a while and may work on a 78360 or an ss presidential. The rep bezel is ok, but a gen fluted bezel would be nice. Like I said, this has been a fun build, but Phong modified my case and it ain't cheap! But Phong did a good job. He put a little nick in the case I furnished him, but he replaced it w/ another 16000 case and everything worked out fine. Now I just need to find another 16000 caseback so that I can put my old DJ back together.
  19. Jocke sure has all the nice tools! It wouldn't be too hard to build the 1655 with the 1675 bezel- might do that for a day on the way to my 1675 build.
  20. I went wade fishing in saltwater one time with a TT oyster bracelet. When I was finished, the bracelet was all steel!
  21. I agree, but it all depends on your point of view. If you need one badly, it's probably a deal. Remember that Rolex no longer makes these old parts so where else can you go?
  22. I looked at Yuki, but the only thing that might work is a caseback for the 1016 case. Also, his prices for like the 551x caseback was pretty high
  23. Has anyone run across a rep caseback that will fit a gen 16000 case? All of the gen casebacks I've run across are priced above $150!
  24. Simply amazing M! I'm blown away and your pictures are beautiful too. Congrats
  25. You might check out what Rolex Addict has done in this field http://www.rwg.cc/topic/145589-gens-1675-16750-case-design-compared-with-1655-11/page__hl__%20rolex%20%201675 You need to trim on either side of the cgs to make it more like the 1675 case It would help if you removed the Explorer bezel and maybe test fit the 1675 bezel as a reference.
