thanks for getting us back on topic lani -- i apologize for nanuq's detestable behavior.
in all seriousness, from your picture i feel like that lume looks factory applied (or if not by the factory, perhaps by ziggy?!). if it were me (and i wish it were), i'd keep the lume and leave the black dot to the crazy alaskan...

top stuff francisco
thanks for taking the time to photograph this whole process -- i can only imagine the investment in time you must have made to put this together
all the best

thanks for the suggestion ubi -- that is definitely along the right lines, although i'd really prefer to get him a watch with automatic movement...
any other suggestions folks?
ideally i'm of something like a budget version of mkii's watches (without the six month wait )

based on recent discussions (click here), we have concluded that original red subs from that era actually came with beveled crystals (not top hat crystals).
good luck with your project

so my brother (who isn't really into watches) asked me for some suggestions for where to get a vintage military style watch akin to something like the vintage timex jcrew currently has in its catalogs (click here). he also liked the first several watches on this page; i don't know anything about RLT watches, but i'm sure there are probably a hundred similar outfits out there.
anyways, just wanted to see if anyone here had any suggestions regarding a reliable source for a watch like this at a relatively reasonable price (i believe he'd like to spend less than $200 all in).
thanks in advance

as an aside to this discussion, a while back andrew and josh teamed up to bring a sapphire version of the 212 to the boards that was available for a limited period of time (ie. a couple months). looks like they have either ordered a new run from that factory or a different factory has started producing 212's with sapphire crystals.
hope this helps

i've been super busy lately and haven't had any free time to spend on RWG, but chuck norris turned 70 today, so i thought starting a thread here to wish him a happy birthday was the right thing to do
unfortunately for RWG, Chuck Norris doesn't wear a watch. HE decides what time it is.

wow -- congrats W
must have taken some arm twisting to wrench that ubitona from R's hands
regardless, couldn't have gone to a better guy. wear it well my friend

my guess would have been a 1680 with a t-127 top hat, but those aren't domed -- just really tall
the t-39 or t-19 domes aren't tall enough to be noticeable as being super thick imho...

buying this watch (titanium iwc ingenieur AMG chrono):
it is the watch that i was most disappointed with (what was i thinking??!??). it is an extremely accurate watch, but it was just too blah for me (too much titanium).
i've never fooled myself into thinking that i can work on my watches (admittedly i don't have the time or interest in working on my watches -- i'd rather be off doing something outside).
for me at least, best to leave that sort of work to the experts

thanks B; it is definitely a very special watch. in fact, i have to keep looking down at my wrist to stem the disbelief of what i've got strapped to my wrist today
