  1. It's a con, stay away from those company's. Have a read around this board, and check out the 'collectors' section further down the forum. All of these are trusted, some are more popular than others, so do a little research.

As for the Daytona, hold off buying one for a few weeks, a new movement has supposedly been released which is about to be reviewed. If it's any good, then it might be worth buying one. A seach for 'seconds at 6' would probably turn up some good info on this movement.

    Welcome to the board.

  2. Just did a quick comparison.

    Front

Yellow - this area shows the gens hour hand is shorter than the rep

Blue - this area shows the text is slightly bolder on the gen

Orange - this area shows the lume dots don't have a border on the gen, whereas the rep has a black border around them

Red - this line shows the lume batons are roughly the same length given that they pass roughly at the same point on the lume marker at 5

I think some of the inconsistencies in the number fonts, especially at 3 are due to a distortion by the crystal

    Back

Not going to do a comparison here, the differences are huge, but the movement does look nicely finished for 118USD!

  3. As above.

I will tell you this though, unfortunately the old school rep as it's called around here isn't made anymore - this was the best version I have seen. The new 2254's are ok, but not upto the replica standards we are used to now. If you like the 2254, I would recommend the Planet Ocean replica which is very good - search for UPO.

  4. Movement guru's among us, this is advertised as an Asian Handwind movement, would that mean it's the Unitas movement that is found in the Asian Pams? Here's a pic....

Apart from the hour hand being slightly too long, and the movement being auto on the gen, it's not a bad rep for the money!

  5. I am still trying to work out why some things bother me and other often bigger faults dont. The crown issue wouldn't bother me, maybe its the briets but I love double ar. (Mmmmm, that sounds a little too gay for my liking!!) I think its just a good ar says quality straight away, before you even get close to a watch.

Anyway, thanks again for your help.

Don't worry, you're not alone there. Good quality AR (especially that of Chieftangs) allows the dial to show its true quality. A good AR coating can make a good looking rep look 20 times more expensive.

  6. @ BVC, as Pug has said I'm currently going through the motions with this new Portuguese. I would advise you to wait a few until Francisco (another meber) has done a review on the movement to make sure it is a new improved one, and not a case of sly marketing by the dealers. Once this review of the movement is done Il release a review of the watch which will hopefully answer all of your questions. On the point of AR, after 2006 the Porto received AR coating. However, the crown on these reps is the one that was used on the pre-2006 Porto. Therefore if you get AR the dates won't match up because it will have the older crown design....however, you'd have to be really observant to notice this, and AR would make the dial a little clearer on the white/blue version :)

@ Yaron, the calibre of the IWC you are after is 79320. However, if you just ask for some black datewheels with white numerals for a Swiss 7750 movement they will fit, they don't need to be specifically IWC ones (they're probably the same to be honest)

  7. These rep boards are always an interesting way of hearing about US law! It was only a few weeks ago that there was a big discussion on the felony murder rule on RG.

This consumer law sounds interesting. Over here in Blighty, in general an advertised price is only an invitation to treat, and therefore the shop owner isn't bound by any advertised price. It is the consumer who ultimately makes the offer, and therefore the shop who accepts or refuses such an offer.

  8. I think one of the new movements (out of an IWC Portugese) has been sent to Francisco for a break down. Waiting to see that post!

Yep, mines on its way to him tomorrow, so hopefully we can get some resolve to this claim that there is a new movement.

Like The Zigmeister has mentioned, they may have improved the movement by adding extra jewels, but it doesn't necessarily mean that it is reliable, there could well be many transfer gears still running on the metal plate. Improving something as dire as the old seconds at 6 movement wouldn't be difficult, making it as reliable as the standard 7750/seconds at 3 movement would be a big leap!

  9. Thank you all for your kind words. I must admit choosing the black or white dial of a Portuguese is perhaps the hardest decision to make. The white is so beautiful, but the black dial, when it has the AR to compliment it, it just looks so classy!

@mwee - the replica comes with a polished case back, the genuine comes with a brushed case back, but it's only the middle part. The full review will show clearer pictures to demonstrate this. Hopefully it will be an easy mod using a scotch pad.

This is me at the moment with my grail ----> :D

  10. Well my watch arrived today. First of all, a big thank you to Mark (watchmark) for incredible communication and a great service. For those of you wanting a new watch from someone who is not from the cartel, but want the same quality of service, then look no further, Mark is your man!!

    The watch

IWC Portuguese chrono is something of a landmark for them, the blue toned watch really took off, offering something a bit different fromevery other white dialed watch.

It is, as some of you will know, my grail watch, so when the new movement version was released I jumped on the chance. It will be on its way to Francisco on Friday for the complete low down on the movement, so watch this space for the review of the movement and the aesthetics which are to follow shortly.

    The Pictures

These are taken with my camera phone (which I bought from my sister in the end as I was always using it haha) The review will use HER camera that she got for xmas. Poor girl, Im always pinching her cameras so I think a drink for her is in order after this!

Anyway here we are. Three flaws I will point out at this stage on this model are the lack of AR coating, and the polished case back (should be bushed) and also the crown is the wrong version......more details will be provided for in the full review.
