Kruzer is correct...a nice gen dial will cost you...if I'm not mistaken I think there could also be a fit issue. I just replaced my MBW dial (1665 DRSD) with one from a Paul DRSD...the printing on his looked cleaner and sharper. As far as dial feet go I remove them and use epoxy when I swap out a dial. I've been doing it for years and never had a issue...I find it gives me a perect date window alignment. It is also easily pryed apart if need be for future work. Good luck with your new MBW...don't worry too much about mods right a way...let your new toy get some wrist time

Thanks... I had the pleasure to handle a gen DRSD several weeks ago and it left an impression...wow! Several days after that I'm emailing Paso and the rest is history I starrted some mods last night and was pleased to find a slow-beat 17 jewel when I opened the back You can DEFINATELY tell the differance ! I'll post pics when I'm done modding...

I had the pleasure of handling a genuine DRSD yesterday. The band has been polished by the owned over the years and the sides of the links seem very shiny...almost like a YM When this watch was new were the link sides polished or buffed like the rest of the band? Funny thing about his DRSD...he has no idea what it's worth. He's one of those lucky bastards with money to burn... Cheers

I had the worst submariner ever...and it was a NIB gen. I bought it in Aruba in 1997 from an AD called Little Switzerland. You name it, I had it...mosture under the crystal, horrible time keeping and movement freezing up. During the flight home I was transfixed by fogging under the crystal...ahhhhh. Turns out the case back gasket was cracked. Paul's people must have been doing QC back then... Thank God the warranty covered the repairs. Dealing with the AD back home was a [censored]...what a bunch of [censored]... I traded the POS in for a used gold DD which I still have today. As a functioning timepiece my modded MBW 1680 has it all over the gen nighmare I had. NEVER again did a buy new...

Finally did my last mod on my MBW 1680 (from TTK) by drilling out the lug holes to accept a pair of gen spring-bars. It looks great but I'm sort of sorry I did it. The small tubes that are soldered on the inside of the end links needed modding as well. I wanted to cut the backs on them and gently pry them apart ever so slightly so they could accept the slightly larger gen spring bars. I used a dremel cut-off wheel but the rings ripped out If they were soldered a little better I would have been OK but...ahhhhhhhhhh My only option is to install the end-links without the rings. It looks great but the end links slightly rattle. I hate it...I wish I never did the final mod... I guess I could keep checking eBay for gen end-links.

I LOVE all watches...I started collecting rep's in the 80's when I couldn't afford gens. Twenty-five years or so later I'm still collecting rep's and too many Rollies over the years to count...thanks to a succsessful career. Reps got me into watch repair about ten years ago so ALL mods are done my me in my basement....a fantastic hobby that I cherrish with all my heart. I've got a gen gold day-date, stainless oyster airking, stainless and gold datejust and a 1680 from 1970 that is clean as a whistle...the band being so prestine that you would think it's fake...but my favorite watch is my modded MBW 1680. All work was done by me and as a timepiece the ETA is as accurate as any 3035. I went diving in NC in July and my MBW didn't miss a beat. Five days, ten dives, some to 160fsw and the watch remained bullet proof... IMHO anyone with cash can buy a gen ALSO, for me anyway, if one of my reps has a movement issue, I can do the repairs myself. I hate like hell to monkey with gen movements because gen parts are so difficult to get. So for me it's the whole package...modding, movements...what other hobby allows you to take it with you wherever you go

This is way it works. OJ will turn over the watch to his attorney who in turn will surrender it to the sheriff's department of which county the order was issued in. That department will auction it off along with other items that department confiscates. If OJ surrenders a rep, which he probably will, it will infuriate Goldman...and rightfully so. I think this whole issue will bring too much light on our little underground hobby

I just heard that a judge ruled that OJ Simpson has to turn over his Rolex as part of the judgement against him. How funny would it be if it turns out to be a rep I wonder what Rolex he's sporting...or was

I'm a Rolex fan and always have been, but the latest offerings from them has me scratching my head...this one in particular. Maybe in twenty years I'll understand why such a dramatic jurney into absurdity... YUK

Best money I ever spent in terms of this hobby was taking the TZ course several years ago. You problem is in the keyless works. A simple fix as stated...but if you don't know what 's going on in there you will trash the movement toot-sweet

I would love to see them rebuild the towers...not as working office buildings but as a monument to the souls lost. Rebuild in the same stlye but only taller...make them the tallest, strongest structures on the earth. TWP, God bless you and your courage.

A friend of mine, who is no longer with us, was a watch maker, trained in Europe and worked for a Rolex AD in NY. He taugh me lots of things about watch repair and "loved" good reps! One thing I remember him telling me was that if a case back was hard to remove the person that last worked on it probably was not properly trained as he explained that a snug tightening is all that is needed. He said that if he had to use a vice/case opener to open the watch he knew the watch was last worked on by an untrained person and this usually means that there will be more problems inside... He would say made sure the mating surfaces are clean and lube a new gasket and hand snug it. The case vice is not for closing but for opening over tightened case basks... "It's a watch...not a transmission" he would say
