As Alligoat suggested, though, it could just as easily be a 6264, depending on what's inside. Aside from the engravings between the lugs, I don't think there's a sure-fire way of distinguishing a 6241 from a 6264 by external appearances.
Tricky build, if you decide to pass on the out-of-the-box rep!
Good list, but I'd swap the Santos for a Tank, the Fifty Fathoms for a Sub, the Hublot for a Breitling Navitimer, and the Longines for a Seiko Astron.
That's my all-time definitive list for the next 24 hours.
Definitely! I might need to head to New York again in the next few months, so let me know.
The Junghans is 38mm across at the bezel. It's slightly bigger and slightly thicker than a Daytona.
Great selection of pilots, E! The sandy-faced B-Uhr looks like something Hans-Joachim Marseille might have worn in North Africa.
Coincidentally, I took the following photo of Bundesluftwaffe fliegers a couple of days ago. That's my Junghans flanked by the earlier (post-war) Hanhart, and the later Heuer Bundeswehr.
All Rolex Explorers had lugholes until 1994-1995.
I suggest you do a Google Image Search for "Rolex 1016" and compare these shots with your photo. I could list the problems with this dial, but I don't think it would mean much until you're more familiar with this model of Explorer.
Alternatively, search for 1016 threads in this subforum to learn more. If it's a modern 39mm Explorer that you really want, search under "214270".
I took a photo of a friend's Steinhart the other day. Pretty nice!
I especially loved the tall, sapphire dome, which has a much more pleasing look than sapphire crystals on, say, recent Speedmaster Professionals.
1. If they come as a set, then the Yuki hands will be for a Rolex c.15xx i.e. they won't fit on an ETA. Better order an ETA-compatible set if you've decided on that movement.
2. Yes, it's been done before, for both Explorer and Datejust frankens.
3. See here: http://www.ingod44.com/rolex-explorer/
InGod's dial -at least, the one that's on my old Space-Dweller franken- is excellent. The accuracy and detail of the printing is unmatched even by dials costing three times as much.
Good luck!
This doesn't have to be a chicken-and-egg question. I don't know much about Breitling modding, but do some research on franken projects that RWG members have undertaken in the past.
If you're thinking about it and it's possible, then it's likely that someone's already done it. If you're looking at a project that's never been undertaken before, there's probably a good reason for that!
