  1. I was watching a television show about Swiss watches a couple of years ago, and this boutique watchmaking house had men doing the hand-engraving ... they have the work table at shoulder height, and then they bite down with their teeth on the edge of the workbench to steady their eyes .. and then begin to carve, holding the desk in their teeth.
  2. The take-away here is that each replica can be waterproof or it can leak and fail. You should always check. Your $500 super wonder modded watch could have a missing gasket, thru a freak forgetful accident. You can't know until you check.
  3. I can not see if this is a real Swiss ETA or a china clone ETA because the picture is too small.
  4. Ooo ... the light is very bad ... MAYBE a happy feet logo ... I can not tell.
  5. Their website is coded in English as well. It detected I am in North America and used English automatically.
  6. Thank you for posting those movement macros. I see that the plates are engraved, and then a sunburst radiating from the central jewel is machined into the plates, and that the gears' teeth are beveled and polished.
  7. I don't understand. Are these QC photographs from some dealer you found on the Internet?
  8. The same thing happens to most people. Don't feel too bad. The Bell & Ross in my .sig pic was my first rep and it was supposed to be an automatic, but it's a quartz.
  9. Welcome to the party, and good luck on your first piece!
  10. Who did you send it out to? That would give Forum members here a warning ....
  11. Any one of the forum's Trusted dealers can get you a B&R replica .. puretime is one of those dealers.
  12. subbiesrock I think you were thinking of this one --> "When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours" - Stephen Roberts
  13. No Forum member is currently replicating these datewheels, altho they have in the past to great effect. You could ask for a high resolution image and try your hand at making them yourself.
  14. I'm sorry but I mean to say that you did get ripped off. Instead of a chronograph watch you received a chinese movement used in the lowest kind of chrono reps .. the day/month/24 hour timer calendar. I think the $88 special from WatchEden is a real chrono, not Day/month/day-night indicator. This is your watch at WatchEden, as a black dial instead of white and Tony has an automatic $20 discount policy, so it's $88
  15. Yes, you have correctly guessed the functions of the fake chrono hands. This watch is something that WatchEden (our resident low-end watch merchant) would sell for $88 ..
  16. Do you have a good quality image of a gen 1950 movement you could share with us? That would be most informative.
  17. Basically, a hand-operated press (like super pliers) that compresses both ends of the pin at once to create the little mushroom heads. I suppose the one they use in the factory is custom built for this purpose. Have you considered asking in the "Want to buy" section for someone's spare clasp? I'm sure there are people who use a rubber strap instead of their bracelet OR just have a broken PO laying around in a drawer. WHO990 sells sterile clasps on eBay ... or you could buy a gen clasp!
  18. When you compress the end of something to make it flatten out or mushroom, it's called swaging. The pin is swaged by a swaging tool. (sway-j)
  19. This is exactly the way to learn and get involved. I'm glad to welcome you as a new arrival to the Forum, and to the Community.
