  1. Had a look in my parts bins... No gen tubes to spare or offer Sorry buddy; if I had one, it would be yours just to get it going again. BTW, you should have very little if any stem adjustment switching between a rep and gen crown. Maybe a very slight bit, but that's easy to micro-adjust with a file by hand if necessary. The stem should thread into both crowns as they are tap 10.
  2. Since I am a visual kind of guy, I figure pics (albeit bad ones) might explain where I'm comign from a bit easier. Here is the stem position of a 2824 inside of a gen Rolex 162xx case: stem centered in the tube And here is a 2836 in the same case: note that the stem is offset towards the back of the case The above demonstrates that the 2836 is a thicker movement with a different stem height than it's 2824 counterpart. Thus, if one had a case intended for a 2836 movement but was using a 2824 movement inside of it, they would have to add a spacer on the dial side of the movement to offset/shim the difference to bring the stem center in the tube. And if there is a spacer between the movement and the dial, that would in effect shorten the height of the pinion, exposing less pinion to affix the hand above the dial.
  3. Very nice! After seeing your project, I do think I prefer the look of the DSSD without the CGs as you've demonstrated here. Well done...
  4. Odd, considering the amount of product placement from the first film. Clear, concise shots of the Bvlgari and a decent view of the Hublot in that one... Especially puzzling since they seem to have a scene focused entirely on which watch Tony Stark should wear ...
  5. If the stem is aligned and centered with a 2824 using a thick spacer to achieve centering of the stem, then that to me would indicate that the wrong movement is being used. And that is what I am getting at. If the OP is having clearance issues with a 2824 using a 2.7mm pinion, that to me would indicate that there is some spacing present to offset the height. A movement that is fitted flush with the dial (or with a small spacer) should provide sufficient pinion height and clearance of the hands to dial relationship. Of course, the presumption of a spacer being used is conjecture for me at this point, as the original poster has not clarified if this is indeed the case. However, the lack of pinion height on a 2824 despite using a 2.7mm tall pinion would indicate to me that something isn't right.
  6. That could be... I'm not familiar enough with the modern stuffs, though I do know they apply whatever coating onto the surface in the same manner as AR, I believe.
  7. If the case is intended for a 2836, and he's using a 2824 with a thick spacer then I suspect that is the problem, T. 2.7mm of pinion should be more than sufficient for hand clearance in relation to the dial otherwise.
  8. With that bezel design and bracelet, this watch appears to have a lot of Ploprof influence (at least to me it does)... Just more wearable than the Ploprof in my opinion
  9. The Milguass (116400 GV gen) has an AR coat on it I believe?
  10. Fri- Tudor 7032 Hooray... The weekend is finally upon us! Have a good one, gang! R
  11. Leather is nice! SS is equally as nice... OR would be great for Summer heat... I say all 3!
  12. Indeed... I think having a single watch would likely drive me crazy. And selling all of my collection would only get me about half way to where I need to be on my grail anyways. I'd have to go for a bit with no watch on the wrist... And that ain't happening Plus, I'd then have to start rebuilding the collection again... W- You said a couple times this Summer? NICE! Let me know when you're in town! M- No matter where my watch interests take me, RWG is and will always be my home. One can talk watches anywhere, but my horological family is here (and by the way.... thank you )...
  13. The canon pinion height that you have (2.7mm; that's almost 3mm tall!) should be more than sufficient for clearing a vintage style matte dial with painted hour indicies. Are you using a thick spacer ring between the dial and movement to get the stem centered in the tube? If yes, you should probably change from an ETA 2824 to 2836, as the 2836 will be a thicker movement. The spacer ring with an ETA 2824 will make the pinions sit deeper, and hence give you less overall height for the hands to clear the dial; the 2836, being thicker, will fill that gap and allow full height of the pinions to be realized.
  14. Indeed... Sometimes, ya just want to switch things up a bit. Plus, there was a sliver of a moment there where I was thinking about selling all to chase a grail gen, but I know in the end I'd regret that decision.
  15. I am contemplating as to whether any/all are keeps in my collection or not. Don't get me wrong, I love them all, but I sat down the other night and started thinking about these shiney toys made of steel and sometimes plastic, sapphire, leather... And my mind began to wander as I started to think about at what point I would liquidate them at... If at all. I've yet to come to any conclusion still...
  16. I really can't tell... They look very similar to me...
  17. I'm of the same mind set as you, J; I like my watches to look well cared for, but a little age and character never hurt anything... Since I don't have a bucket of lathe left overs and shavings to subject my watches to, my only course of action is to just wear my watch in just about everything and anything I do. Before long, it will accumulate wear on it's own (and if I'm of the mindset of wanting to keep something pristine and perfect, it seems as though it picks up scratches and the sort just that much easier ). If I want my watch to look really, really beat up, I just Mrs. Ubi wear it for a few hours...
  18. "This one's going in the butt!" -Some skank; Anal Divas 16
  19. I presume you are you using a thicker ring for the 2824 to fit in the 1570 date cases, correct?
  20. Gen crystal completely changes that watch! That is a definite must!
  21. Interesting that they're listed to fit either 2824 or 2784; 2783 and 2784 have the same stem height/position as a 2836...
  22. I thought going gen was mandatory Let me check a couple more drawers...
