  1. @Pugwash.... since yesterday there's not only MBW, WM and DW but also BB.... congratulations on your twins... shot today in the office (no tripod, no lights, small cam & some pc) but turned out nice....
  2. This hasn't left my wrist ever since it arrived yesterday..... WM1680 red letter
  3. To get the movement out is actually not that difficult: once the back is open, it is two little srews holding the movement clamps; two screws holding the crownguard and one little button (careful - don't press too hard and aleways with the right tool! read howto in the howto section first to not damage the keyless works in the process) to release the stem & Crown. If you have done it once... (and have the right tools like quality screwdrivers) it no big deal.... Actually, that is one of the fun things about the rep business... I would not neccessarily do that with a gen PAM...., but a rep?
  4. well I am lucky to have never bought a PAM I did not like.... - the ones I have, I love... in that "dislike" category... any of the Purdeys...or any white-dial-versions.... white dials just don't work for me on a PAM
  5. different experience here.... I needed a crystal press to do the work... not a chance in the woirld with my thumbs (and I'm a big guy) ... I don't know about the origin of my 111h as I bought it on Ioffer. It was a cheap version with an undecorated CN6497 though. Waterproofing... I have a Bergeon but never cared to test the 111 as it's constantly on a leather strap anyhow. I have several diver's watches to choose from if I feel the urge to get wet...
  6. respect! ...that's what I call a certified PAM fanatic...
  7. Interesting comparison V... too bad Jimmy is not selling all of his OEM parts anymore. I can definitely confirm the interchangability of the crystals as I bought a crystal from Jimmy and installed it in my rep 111h ... (picture in the tuesday wristcheck)....
  8. 111h for me today..... (while waiting for a WM1680 redletter.... )
  9. hate to break the news to you V.... 1,90cm is "only" 6.23....
  10. 111h "....the more I see you, the more I love you...." Chris Montez
  11. yes...looks like right out of a Cortebert sales brochure... Congratulations.... this baby will be one awesome watch one day...
  12. mercy millefois... actually the darker background works better for me... I don't like white desktop backgrounds.... even though it looks beautiful... it hurts my eyes....
  13. Whow... wunderschön.... this has been cleaned and worked on, or what?
  14. if that is the only thing that bothers you about the B&R, you can paint that circle with black paint and your done.... no more challenging that reluming... if you can't do it yourself, any of the modders or a friendly watchsmith will do...
  15. with leather strap.... but, yes... you're right - this one is more expensive and there is another important issue to keep in mind: if your stateside, you need to buy a watch in the states (one that is designed to receive the US DCF signal from Fort Collins in Colorado). Usually, these watches are not all capable of receiving various signals around the world and if you take it beyond that signals range, it will just function as a standard quartz watch until back within range. I once bought a casio DCF in LA and took it to Europe, only to find out that it had no reception..... Germany DCF77 on frequency 77,5 kHz UK / MSF on frequency 66 kHz US / WWVB 60 kHz Japan / JJY 40 kHz and 60 kHz there is another nice one from Citizen.... (never mind the color...they also come with black dial) not sure though if available in US and if functional (see above) .... out of price range too
  16. http://www.junghans.de/html/pages/en_colle...pollo_alarm.htm Junghans. German company. They have several watches controlled by DCF. The Apollo Alarm comes with either metal wristband or leather.... it's not a bad tool watch...
  17. Missed this as I was writing my rather long post (puh!) ... this, especially the last sentence is the best short-says-it-all response to this loooooooooooooong topic...
  18. ....so this seems to become the legitimate heir to the "white lies" thread.... I have bought a couple of watches and parts (straps, movements) from Andrew and one night, after I had ordered a watch, we had a very interesting and nice email exchange about our views on business ethics and business behavior... we both agreed that long-term thinking was the key to building a successful business and that the quick buck, made on the back of your customer, does not really lead to that same goal... I did then and still trust Andrew that this was truly his opinion, because he had just made me an offer to solve an issue we had with a watch, which was generous and very much in line with the opinion he had voiced in that conversation. Needless to say, I have bought from him since and will do so in the future... I have bought reps from street dealers in New York, Naples or Istanbul, I have bought from middlemen on Ioffer, from guys on the bay and the owner of a pizza parlor 'round the corner... none of them have given me even remotely that kind of treatment and in retrospect- fair pricing. In so far I am very happy that roughly a year ago, I finally discovered the rep-board world, and through it, guys like Neil, Josh, Andrew, Jay, Angus and all the others. On the other hand, I believe that Dealers should use an honest description of what they are offering. If it is an Asian copy of an ETA movement, that doesn't mean that it is a pos. My TTK noobmariner runs very accurately and that is fitted with the mother of all cheapo movements. But I knew what I was buying (Neil is very accurate in his ads) and I did not mind. That movement dwells in darkness - not like my 6497 in the PAM183. Even Indenial said on page one that his B&R runs flawlessly... If someone doesn't mind getting Mineral Glass instead of Sapphire or just wants an accurate case and does not care about the movement as long as it keeps good time - that's absolutely ok... but you can only make that decision if you have the FACTS! If I had a religious problem with buying a replica of anything (watch, case, wristband, movement) I wouldn't be here. So what's wrong with calling an ETA rep by its name? Just don't sell me mineral glass as sapphire, Asian as Swiss, rep as gen or guy as girl ....
  19. No wonder the Piazza San Marco is going down....
  20. I guess that by now everybody should have realized that the times when you could buy valuable stuff incredibly cheap on Ebay are long gone.... No one will sell a watch that is worth 20.000$ for 200$. There is no little Grandma that sells her late hubby's wristwach (Lange? never heard of that crap..!) on the bay for 1% of the actual value... WAKE UP!!! If it is 200$, you don't even have to look at the picture to know this is a FAKE. Lange leather wristbands sell for more than that... I have yet to see a good quality Lange rep ... the two posted here are pure fantasy models...
  21. Me too think that the important thing is the diameter of the dial, the diameter of the center hole and the position of the date window. You can always cut the dial feet and attach the dial with hypo-cement (glue) or small double sided tape (dial pads)
  22. Would it be possible for you to post a picture of how you position the watch in the vice? I have two gen crystals with cyclopses that are positioned for gen rlx rather than rep eta .... if both crystal and cyclops would stay intact to be reglued... that would be great...
  23. Don't worry about the PAM - get another one for yourself. This is not going to be the only thing you will have to part with over the years....and... enjoy every second...they grow up so fast....
