  1. 2 options - replace the crystal with a gen (if you can find/afford 1) or click here (unfortunately, the lab referenced in the thread is no longer in business).
  2. Another of Ziggy's old tech threads that I am bumping mostly because it shows where we were 10 years ago & how far we have come.
  3. Another old tech thread that might be of interest to newer members. Bumped.
  4. A proven solution for an old problem that continues to plague all secs @ 6 Asian 77xx movements today. As of last year, I understand that the original watch used for this article is still running & keeping time. So bumped.
  5. 1 of the saddest losses for RWG was Ziggy, our in-house watch guru (not a bad painter, either). 1 of the other sad losses is all of the staggeringly beautiful pics Ziggy posted in many of his brilliant technical threads like this 1. There is no way to convey the power of Ziggy's articles without their accompanying pics; many being next to useless without them. I believe the 1 you are viewing now is 1 of Ziggy's best & it, too, misses the top mark since the pic links are all broken. But the wealth of information about the Asian 7750, which continues to power many rep & franken watches today is too useful not to be missed by you newbies. So, bumped.
  6. One of RWG's best reviews by 1 of its best reviewers. For those who missed it the 1st time. Bumped.
  7. An old thread & a bit dated now, but worthy of a bump.
  8. RWG has always been the best place for the technical-minded to gather & exchange ideas, tips & techniques. Welcome aboard & we hope to see contributions from new members in the future.
  9. The watch is in great shape for its age, but I think you are in much better shape, especially consider that you have been many more places & experienced many more things than the watch.
  10. To avoid making an expensive mistake or getting in over your head, I would recommend that you remove your existing bezel to see how it installs. Silix's reps, like many sellers, come from a variety of sources & some of them offer OEM-style bezel fitments & some are proprietary or at least fit differently than the OEM model. Also, even if the bezel attached OEM-style, are the dimensions of the case (where the crystal fits) & bezel exactly the same as OEM or slightly different? If different, an OEM-style may not be a simple part swap; it may require some modification to the bezel &/or the case. If in doubt, post good clear pics of your bezel (outer & inner sides) & case opening (where the bezel & crystal attach) & someone with experience with the same Silix rep may be able to guide you.
  11. I have bumped a handful of old technical threads that I think will be of interest to newer members that missed them on their 1st run. RWG contains a true wealth of technical information that cannot be found (& has often been copied) on other sites - including the gen sites. These are the types of threads that brought many, including myself, to RWG & kept us here. Many (most?) of the breakthroughs that bridged reps, frankens & gens came from these threads, & many of today's vintage Rolex reps owe their accuracy to the pioneering work of many early & talented RWG members. Unfortunately, due to the passing of time & other indulgences, I am unable to add much to these threads beyond what they contain, so if you seek additional info, please do not be surprised if nothing more is provided. Also, due to the numerous forum software upgrades, some links may be broken &/or pics missing, so you may need to perform some detective work on your own. Enjoy.
  12. Bumped for new members. Also, search out By-Tor's remarkable Daytona Guide.
  13. Bumped for new members.
  14. Bumping for new members interested in technical articles.
  15. This is the 1st of a number of old threads I will be bumping for those who may not have seen some of the more technical articles that RWG is famous for.
  16. 'Swatch Group is believed to be lumbered with a huge excess of movements in light of the downturn of the Swiss watch industry and the resulting decrease in demand for such movements. Plus watch brands around the world had already been seeking alternatives to ETA after the 2013 deal with Weko was announced, or in some cases actually developing their own movement production capacities. Subsequently, Swatch Group is keen to sell off its excess supply of stock, which is why it has opened up discussions with Weko again.' ETA hopes for leeway on phasing out of movement supply
  17. You may be pleased to hear that I read in a recent copy of WatchTime that, due to slowing global sales, ETA has reversed its 'No parts to 3rd-parties' policy & begun shipping limited numbers of parts to old customers who had previously been cut-off. Supply & demand..........the cure that works.
  18. I have a handful of friends in Paris as well as Britain & Germany & they are all telling me that the EU is close to having a full-scale mutiny on its hands if their governments do not take immediate & decisive actions against these Islamic groups. & that does not mean importing still more of them! Unfortunately, I believe most of the problem lies with President Obama's willful ignorance or questionable allegiance (ie, who's side is he on??).
  19. I am sorry to say that until/unless the west acknowledges that a large portion of Islam is at war with it & we drop the political correctness & react accordingly, these things will continue as they have throughout history until the victims take up arms and fight fire with fire. Sometimes, you have to fight for peace.
  20. This is looking worse by the minute. There are additional sites of shootings now. If you are in the city of Munich....... U.S. Consulate in Munich: Shelter in place
