  1. Yep here's from my deck at 1:00 AM
  2. Thanks doc! I caught these 3 yesterday looking for Goldilocks a couple hundred yards from my house. Shoo!
  3. Loving these long summer nights! Getting close to midnight and the sun is still high.
  4. I've used a Clarks 127 on the Nastymariner and the cyclops position is dead on.
  5. The 6536 is ridiculously thin, and the 6538 is much thicker. The Big Crown almost makes a 6536 look like a dress watch in comparison. Quick snap to show the difference
  6. Holy yikes, how did she find out about this? Nice to see you again buddy!
  7. Sure, we *can* do it, but any posts you made that were quoted by others will remain. And Google indexes the site so your posts will live there for all eternity anyway. Best advice is to take a breather and come back in awhile and see if the old flame is rekindled.
  8. A genuine 6537! I've heard the rumors, but never thought I'd live long enough to see one for myself. Magnificent.
  9. Hah! Wait till Sankthansaften, we'll still have enough light to ride mtn bikes at 1:00 AM
  10. We're past the Long Dark, here in the arctic. Now we're really digging these long summer days.
  11. Yep. Now I'm not afraid to use it, and use it hard. The others with gen movements mostly live on the shelf now. It's a glorious thing to see a serious vintage dive watch in its element.
  12. Own your watches ... don't let your watches own you.
  13. I saw a lot of that in Hawaii. One evening I was getting ready for diving the next day, and noticed the Frosty Flake's caseback was loose. So I went walkabout to the Rolex and Tourneau shops to see if they had a watchmaker to snug it down. Neither one did but the sales people couldn't get enough of the 'Flake. Most of them didn't even understand my preference for "4 digit" models until I started listing them... 6536, 6538, 1665, 1675, 9401 and they got out a catalog to look them up. They had heard of these strange "domed" crystals but only one guy had ever seen one. Some guy came in with his sleeves rolled up flashing his Daytona around, and couldn't get the time of day from the sales staff as long as they were passing the Frosty Flake between them. Dr. Martin Luther King almost had it right.... we should judge people by the content of their character, not the thickness of their wallet. Money can be taken from you, but your character is yours for life.
  14. When doing a 6538 build, you usually start with a budget and work from there. If you're doing a cheapie build then your choice of cases will take unnaturally oversized dials. Higher end cases are sized per gen spec so they take gen size smaller dials. Once you pick the case and a dial to fit it, then other dimensions come into play, like movement diameter, stem height, overall height and pinion sizes. Most cheapie builds use an ETA or DG movement and the appropriate movement spacer ring to fit it snug inside the case. Then you find hands to fit the pinions and the dial diameter, and Bob's your uncle.
  15. Yeah, when we moved over here from the original RWG we tried to copy forward as many threads as we could. Sadly this is one that didn't survive the transition.
  16. I'm back in the frigid north now so you'll get your wish.... no more beach shots. The Domed Monster did great, but the Frosty Flake fogged up after 12 days in the ocean. No harm no foul. I did spend some quality time with Lani and he sends his Aloha to his ohana here. What a great guy.
  17. That's our staff surgeon for when Ken's left nut needs removing (again).
