  1. I don't know about you guys, but ... I wonder if Orchi is our own Crazysaleman? Check it out and see what YOU think.
  2. Whatever you do, don't go search for 6538 hands on eBay.
  3. Plus a nasty virus was just uncovered that targets the Android.
  4. There's always the direct approach, but my aim stinks.
  5. Wouldn't a Jubilee bracelet turn that watch into a Casino-Dweller?
  6. Happy New Year lads! Great photos Stephane and TT! I'm way up on a mountain looking down over a city ablaze with fireworks! The folk up here are doing their own special kind of fireworks, there's gunfire all over the mountainside. Think I'll go poke some .44 holes in the clouds too! Woooo hoooooo!!!!
  7. Well done, gents. That's what makes RWG the best forum in the galaxy, bar none. Yeah that's right those purple squids on Bobotaur-3 got nothin' on us!
  8. Verrrrrry nice! I did the same with my crystal because everyone knows DOMES RULE.
  9. Boy that's a good tutorial. I do the same steps but I don't use tape on the lugs.
  10. Oh for the love of all that's holy, please please oh please don't. It's like kissing your sister, Peeing into the wind, Betting on the Vikings for the Superbowl... ...some things you just don't do.
  11. I little birdy told me we have a proud new owner living in our ranks, boys. Does that make it FOUR of the world's total now owned by our membership?!
  12. Merry white Christmas from Alaska!
  13. God Jul in Norwegian and Angliq Alussistuaq in Yup'iq (Eskimo) Or just plain old ho ho hoooo! Merry Christmas RWG!
  14. If only it were that simple. The inner diameter is too big, enough so that there's a big gap between the retaining ring and bezel. If I bent some extreme bumps into my retaining spring it might catch and hold the ring. But I'd be afraid to wear the watch and risk losing the bezel by bumping it. Wonder if JMB could machine a new retaining ring that's 1mm bigger in outside diameter? Hmmmmmm. But then would the crystal outside diameter be too much smaller than the insert's inside diameter?
  15. What he said. It's all fun and games until the power goes out, THEN you'll be looking for your pen, paper, address book and phone book. Expect the unexpected, sez me.
  16. Hah! I used to pull that on my kids ... until they got faster than me! Now the little monsters can catch me.
  17. .......and hence the reason this place exists. To out the slimeballs.
  18. Exactly. Shear-Time and Chronocentric-whatever are the ones I'm watching. Shear-time is a member of IWJG in good standing so he's getting top dollar for his sales. Comparing photos, I have *exactly* the same part as he's selling. So I PM'd him to see if he wants to sell mine and keep anything he can get over my purchase price... no response. Comex-diver111 also has an apparently inexaustible supply of these hitherto unobtainable parts. I looked at all the readily available aftermarket parts and settled on the one I've got now. But I'd be happy to use this new bezel if the darn thing would fit. Wanna buy it for your 6538?? I'll let it go for what I paid and I'll cover the shipping. Good quality inserts ought to snap in correctly, as its outer diameter looks the same as my 6536/1 bezel.
  19. I'm not liking the look of the green goo glopped onto that dial. That's approx where I started from 20 years ago resurrecting mine.
  20. Only slightly less sneaky than the old backcountry ski trick when you're in the woods and you smack the tree branch with your pole as you ski under it, so it cascades on the one behind you. Not that I would EVER do that mind you. Merry Christmas, Ken!
  21. When it comes to vintage Rolex there is, unfortunately, no "going price". They're all over the board with no rhyme or reason. Correction: there IS a rhyme or reason ... anything "red" will always be worth more than a non-red. Similarly a gilt will be worth more than a white. Red 1680s - check Red 6536s - check Red 1665s - check Gilt Subs or gilt GMTs - check
  22. Merry Christmas to you, too! Today isn't a Bach day, it's a Claude Debussy day. So I'm listening to the Canadian Brass doing Trois Chansons. WOW!! Verrrrrrrrrrrrry nice.
  23. I'd always prefer to have a bottle in front of me, than a frontal lobotomy.
  24. I am passing this on to you because it definitely works, and we could all use a little more calmness in our lives. By following simple advice heard on the Dr. Phil show, you too can find inner peace. Dr Phil proclaimed, "The way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the things you have started and have never finished." So, I looked around my house to see all the things I started and hadn't finished, and before leaving the house this morning, I finished off a bottle of Merlot, a bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream, a package of Oreos, the remainder of my old Prozac prescription, the rest of the cheesecake, some Doritos, a box of chocolates, and the last bit of the tequila. You have no idea how freaking good I feel right now.
  25. Your criteria: Budget is 3000$ Isn't well replicated From a well known brand You have a rare opportunity right now. On Ebay there's a Doxa Black Lung for sale. There are perhaps 7 known examples in the world. It uses a rock solid ETA movement so parts are easy to find. It will last forever, it's iconic, and disappears on the wrist. With its collectible status you'll never lose money on it. And face it... Doxas get the babes. You don't even have to look like Dirk Pitt.
