  1. It should work, give it a try. If you meet any resistance at all, back it out before you destroy the threads Disregard this advice, If Matt says it won't work, It won't!!
  2. you got a great deal!! What a nice Christmas Present for you.
  3. I believe that you are going to have to buy a genuine insert to get that true "Tudor Blue"
  4. There are certainly advantages to both. Sometimes there just aren't any watches that you like for sale in the tradeing Zone (member sales) . On the other hand if you do find something as mitchbaria said, you can often gert watches that have been modded, save money on "gently used" and in most cases, the problems, if any, have been sorted out. Another very important factor, if you are buying from a member here in the CONUS, and you are also in the CONUS, the original purchaser has taken all the risks of customs, etc. I would say the same with sales within the EU, but I'm not sure of that.If you deal with one of the Trusted dealers, you have to have patience, as they may have the watch you orsdered in stock today, but be out tomorrow. remember two things, one, these guys are dealing in counterfeit goods. no matter how you paint it, in the eyes of most of the world, these "replicas" are nothing but counterfeit "knockoffs". The dealers are often trying very hard to fly under the radar, so you have to be patient. This is not Amazon!! No matter where you purchase, you need to do your homework, know what you are buying, ask questions, and make sure you and the seller are both on the same page with everything, this includes payment instructions, shipping, etc. Don't assume anything. If you want insurance, delivery confirmation, or Express mail delivery, make sure you discuss this with the seller. Most folks don't care how it's shipped, as long as you are paying for anything above what the seller states in his sales thread. Most private sellers don't offer returns or refunds unless the watch is not what was described, but you need to discuss with the seller what his policy is, if say the watch is not running when it arrives at your doorstep. Most of the folks here on this forum are honest and upfront, they want you to be satisfied, within reason.
  5. Here is and exerpt from a WUS thread comparing the SW200 to the ETA 2824. As you can see below, they are the same movement, both Swiss made. Quite a few of the smaller watchmakers are using Sellita movements in their watches, fully anticipating the day when Swatch Group will finally not sell ETA movements outside of the group. Having said that, when you see the Sellita SW200 movement in a watch, it is the same movement as an ETA 2824-2. The reason watch makers are using Sellita movements, is not so much about cost, but more having to do with the fact that ETA is slowing down production and will cease to provide movements to watch makers outside the Swatch Group in 2010. So because ETA movements are harder to get, watch makers will use an ETA or Sellita movement depending on what they are able to acquire in time to put the watches together.
  6. If it's been sitting for 15 years, you better factor in a service as well. i would decide how much you are going to need to spend on it, and then decide if it's worth it. If you spend 1500 on the watch get it serviced at and independent watchmaker for 200-250 and get the bracelet and the clasp polished. you could have a pretty nice watch for 1700-1800 USD. If you take it to a RSC, the service will cost half the cost of the watch!! They will want to change the crystal, crown/tube. maybe the dial/hands and possibly the bracelet. If you go that route, you will end up with a "like new" watch, but you will also have twice what it's worth, in it.
  7. Seriously doubt that you could match the paint, and the scuffs through the marker at 9 would be hard to fix. I'm sure someone could do it, but if not done correctly, the repairs will show.
  8. A month makes quite a difference this time of year. The Christmas shipping rush is at it's peak right now. Customs is probably innundated with packages moving through. Honestly, I wouldn't order anything from overseas during the month of December. the volume of packages goes up tremendously. I seriously doubt that US Customs hires temp workers to help get through the seasonal rush, the packages just back up and after the volume goes down, they clear the backlog. Give it a few more days. It might not be home for Christmas, but surely by New years Night!!
  9. Ofrei sells ETA movements, as well as quite a few other watch parts supply houses. Also sometimes forum members have movements up for sale. Need to watch the sales forum.
  10. Are you talking about exchanging the ETA movement for a genuine movement? not sure. One thing that most modders have found out, seldom is a movement just a "Drop in" substitute, some are, but a lot will either not work, or require movement rings, spacers and sometimes longer canon pins to get enough space above the dial for the hands. One case in point, several years ago a fair number of folks wanted to substiture an ETA 2893-2 GMT movement into the Rolex GMT IIc, which uses a modified 2836. a few folks tried the swap, a couple of people were able to do it, but it took a lot of different parts and some serious compromises, enough trouble that most people gave up on the idea. I know, I still have a nice ETA 2893-2 movement sitting in my parts cabinet!!
  11. I suppose if the end is near, i might as well go out with and old favorite.
  12. I looked at both. I believe the Blue dial is the better deal. Early Tudors, I believe the early 9410 - 9411's had dial problems. The second one, the black dial is showing some serious bubbling, which could eventually become paint flaking.
  13. Thanks guys, I ordered a set of hands with the big ball second hand. Hopefully that will be all that I need for this project. Shooting for after the New Year.
  14. Very nice watch!! Who did the PanAM logo on the caseback? I have thought about having mine engraved at some point in time.
  15. I'm waiting expectantly for that watch. I'm in the first 60 , probably either one or two since I responded about 20 seconds after he opened up the website for ordering. He's slow, but the quality is definitely there. His version is going to use a 2893-2 GMT movement. I would love to have and acrylic insert on that one, but I don't think it's going to happen.Sounds like it's going to be aluminum.
  16. That is beautiful. must be nice to be able to walk out your back door and find a beautiful fresh Christmas tree within dragging distance? Ours are probably cut in October and they are half dead by the time we see them.
  17. Very nice!! i have to agree, Matt is a really great. He has worked on several watches for me including my wife's genuine Rolex Lady Datejust, and his work is as good as it gets. Nice thing too, although we aren't "right around the corner" we are fairly close, Matt will email me if he sees something out of the ordinary, then we talk about it on the phone. Another thing, if it's something he really doesn't feel comfortable with, he will tell you up front, like he hates 2846 movements!!! Best of all, his son graduated from LSU!! Geaux Tigers
  18. Very nice build, that dial/hands look really good. Why remove the pearl? i've never seen a genuine with the pearl missing.Ofrei has very good trit pearls. Do what Freddy said, plus get a good pearl, and you will have a "knock it out the park" watch.
  19. I would bet that you are out of luck with getting any expertise with watches unless you happen on and older guy that has been selling watches for years, and has and interest in them, otherwise, you are dealing with sales "clerks" that know almost nothing about the watches they sell. What is so amazing to me is the absolute lack of intellectual curiosity among the young to middle age folks here in the USA. I don't know what they are interested in, but it certainly isn't anything that pertains to their work, or the world around them. When you go in a large chain jewelry store like Jared's, you are going to get a sales person that may be showing someone and engagement ring, a pearl necklace and then a Rolex Datejust. they just sell, they don't know a thing about the product, sad but true.Another factor, these are pretty low end jobs, nice because you get to dress in a nice suit and look important, but in actuality, these are jobs that aren't well paying, and especially in the chain jewelers, the turnover is probably pretty high. any guy/gal who signs on there is probably using that job as an interim position until something better comes along, they figure they aren't going to be there long, so why bother with learning the product. i would expect that almost everyone who frequents this and other watch forums is infinitely more knowledgeable about watches than the person that's taking them out of the display case and showing them to you. You would think that a small family owned jeweler would be knowledgeable about their products, which in the case above, probably the father ,son team are well versed, just the fact that they were in Basel for BaselWorld says a lot about their watch knowledge, unfortunately, I doubt that the mother daughter team knows or cares much about watches. Now if you were picking out a Crystal or China pattern, they would be in their element!
  20. this is my favorite, although I don't wear it every day. Too many watches!!!!
  21. If you feel like your membership has gotten downgraded by mistake, all you need to do is PM admin. and they can check.
  22. I agree that this is not the time or place to discuss gun legislation and the gun control. This is a time to pay our respects to those tiny little children and their teachers who were needlessly struck down by this mentally deranged 20 year old. who knows why he did it, perhaps over time the police will be able to piece together his motives and inner torment that drove him to kill his own mother, steal her guns ,drive her car to the school and methodically cut down little children at point blank range. My heart goes out to the familes of everyone involved. For the famiies of those slain as well as the other children who witnessed the slaughter of their little friends and classmates. this will be a pretty bleak Christmas.
  23. Bracelet prices are ridiculous!! I see 93150's on Ebay and some of the forums selling for 1100-1200 USD, come on man!! This one seems liike a bargain until you see the details. not going to fit a 7 1/2-8" wrist. The seller should list it on some other forums like Rolex forum. Vintage Rolex marketplace, places that are more user friendly. The restrictions to viewing sales posts probably keeps lots of folks away that may be potential buyers
