  1. I bought my wife a Tag 32mm Aquaracer for our anniversary. She wants to semi convert it to a ss/gold. I bought a ss/gold bracelet, but I believe that replacing the crown with a gold crown would help. I'm not going to go all the way and replace the bezel, dial, hands etc. as I would be better off just selling this one and buying a complete ss/gold watch.Anyone have a source for genuine Tag parts? Thanks
  2. Sometimes I can't figure out why we love Rolex watches as much as we do! They are absolutely the most arrogant, self serving company in the world. All Rolex cares about is pushing watches out the door, service is and afterthought. i do believe that their ultimate goal is to eliminate ALL independent watchmakers that are currently servicing Rolex watches. if Rolex can choke off all the independents, and require that every Rolex that needs service be sent in to the nearest Rolex SC, then they are in total control. There will be no more Rolex parts for sale by individuals, period. Forget about finding a new insert for a 16610, or a new crystal for your GMT IIC. The only alternative at that point will be to use all aftermarket parts on your projects, as there will be no genuine parts floating around. If you own a genuine contemporary Rolex, all this means is some inconvenience and more costs for a service. Unfortunately, for those who have Rolex watches that are no longer eligible for service, then you are in a pickle. Right now, as watches fall off the list of RSC service eligible, a fairly good supply of parts is stillavailable, and the watchmakers can get some of the parts from Rolex, Today. That's not to say that tomorrow or next week, they send out a letter saying sorry, even though you have been a certified Rolex watchmaker, and you have had a Rolex parts account for 25 years, as of such and such date we will no longer supply Rolex parts to you. We suggest that you instruct your customers to send their watches to a RSC for service. Pretty crazy, but they are in control.
  3. I just pulled up the ranff website ,Googled 2784 and the website said ETA 2784 is 28800. Here is the link http://www.ranfft.de/cgi-bin/bidfun-db.cgi?10&ranfft&0&2uswk&ETA_2784 The 2783 is a 21XXX movement, not the 2784
  4. Your post will show edit as well as quote and multiquote, other posts will only show quote and multiquote. Read my PM to you and follow the instructions and you should be OK. Can't believe that my 2000th post is helping a noob!! I thought it would be a profound vintage Rolex post, but i suppose this is better, helping someone new. welcome aboard, this ship of crazy watchaholics!!
  5. I had a Lange Datograph and it was 22mm ,a Breguet Chrono, and it was 20mm, I believe. I would wait until you got the watch in hand and then you can measure the lug size as well as the buckle size. As Mike said, you need a nice dressy band, because these are definitely dress watches. A nice Alligator or alligator grain. Color depends on you're preferences. i'm not much on Black, so I prefer dark navy blue especally with watches that have white dials and blued hands. Here is a photo of a genuine Maurice Lacroix with a dark blue gator strap (Genuine watch and strap) This strap came from Lone Star watch works. they have lots and lots of very nice straps at all price points. Very good service and prompt shipping.
  6. I bought a nice expansion 7206 from phong (Jewelry&watch) unfortunately it comes with the wrong numbered end links (Should be 80) The good part is it does accept genuine 2mm springbars. yuki's does not without modification. and you need to know what you're doing to open them up. You can break the end links pretty eaasily if you aren't careful. I personally would prefer a 9315 folded link Oyster bracelet w/380 end links for your watch. I believe that it is more period correct unless you'rs is a very early model (Around 1960-63) the later 7928's came with 9315's, and all of them that went back to Rolex Service centers for repair were replaced with 9315's and later 93150's. So you can get by with any of those, as well as Jubilee bracelets. I never liked the Jubilee on a dive watch, but to each his own.
  7. It's probably not a good idea to use peoples names , addresses, emails, etc. here on the forum. If you want to contact someone via PM or Email, using names are fine, but lots of folks here are also on genuine forums, and some are there under their own names, so it's not good form, as it can very easily get a member into hot water on those forums.
  8. Look at the photos of my genuine 9411/0 above. That is a genuine 93150 w/ correct Tudor clasp
  9. You are going to have to use one of the "premium" cases. The MBW is a great case, but it will not take a genuine dial. I'm waiting for one of higho•••• cases.
  10. Putting in a genuine 3135 is a great idea, but for me it would be a last step in the process. I would much rather have a genuine dial, bezel and insert as well as a genuine bracelet or at least a better one. Nobody is going to open up your watch to have a look at your movement, so for reality's sake, I always try to make the outside as good as it can get before worrying about the movement.
  11. I don't have a problem with what he did at all, my only concern would be the potential blowback as I stated in my post above. If at some point in time the father decides he wants his watch, then it's probably going to be a problem for the son who sold it. The biggest problem with situations like this, we have a tendency to rush to judgment , sometimes with only a smattering of facts. One big question, are the father and mother divorced? Did the decree give the father a stated amount of time to claim all his possessions? Did perhaps the mother get the house and all it's contents? See, from what the OP told us, it's impossible to tell what the ultimate outcome of this would be. As he described the situation, the son called him and asked if he would be interested in a watch, they agreed on a price and that would normally be the end of the story. It didn't sound like he took advantage of the guy, and if the son was concerned about the price, he could have taken it to any of probably 100+ Jewelers, watchmakers and pawn shops in the DFW area and gotten a pretty accurate appraisal. Sounds like he wanted to flip it quick, for cash. Another thing as I stated above, most potential buyers would want a pretty solid chain of ownership before plunking down the money for a fairly expensive watch. If a Jewelry/watch store or Pawnshop buys the watch and it later proves to be stolen, they will forfeit the watch and their only recourse would be to go after the guy who sold it to them. If I were buying it from someone off the street, not someone I knew, I would probably require them to sign an affidavit, stating that they were indeed the owners of the watch and it was theirs free and clear with no clouds to ownership. If the son signed something like that, then if there is a problem later, he can be charged with felony fraud, as he sold something that was not his.But the big problem here, is we don't know enough about the situation to even have a reasonable opinion.
  12. Watch head looks OK, definitely and aftermarket bracelet. This watch comes with a 93150 Oyster bracelet and 580 end links. I doubt that either of those are present on this watch, hence no detailed photos of the bracelet and clasp. Problem here, to make it right, it's going to cost another 500-1000 USD for a genuine bracelet and end links. If you're interested, I would ask the seller for more detailed photos of the bracelet and some of the clasp. Here is a genuuine 9411/0 for comparison.
  13. Unless I'm shipping something within the USA and using express mail, Itry very hard not to ship anything or order anything that requires shipping international at leasr until after January 1st. The Christmas rush is terrible, TS Sandy left the infastructure in the East in shambles, and the USPS is melting down, so i wouldn't count on anything getting anywhere on time. If you do need to send something, unless it's cost prohibitive, i would use Express mail or at the least International Priority. Don't send Registered Mail, First Class or Parcel Post as they are realy, really slow. First class is great if you're flying, but it ain't so hot as a mail option.
  14. They should send you a tracking number, which will work sometimes, sometimes not, depending on whether or not the postal employees scan the package or just move it along. You will have to sign for it. Customs issues don't seem to be a real problem now, but having said that, you never know when or where the US customs service will start really looking at the packages and start to snag reps. Any time you bring items into the USA that are counterfeit or on the banned list (Cuban Cigars for example), you run the risk that it will be seized by customs. Just the price of playing the game!
  15. have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Don't eat too much, drink too much or overdose on Football!! And to all of our fellow RWG members in other countries, have a wonderful day.
  16. A serial = 1999. Could be luminova, my P serial (2000) is a luminova dial. Not sure abpout the rest. That clasp is not right, should be a 93150 and I don't think the endlinks are correct either Here are a few photos of my genuine for comparison
  17. I'm not sure the administrators will get involved at this point. If the dealer continues to ignore your emails, providing you aren't sending him and email every 30 minutes asking about your watch, I would expect the mods will get involved at such time as they believe that enough time has gone by and you aren't gettig any responses. Remember, these are rep dealers you are dealing with, it's not like calling customer service at Omega, Breitling, Seiko, etc. These guys madch to their own drum. Sometimes they are away for days or weeks, visiting factories, trying to get their input noted with the factories, mostly trying to get all of us better reps. There is a fair amount of unrest in China today regarding replicas. The authorities seem to be focusing a little more on counterfeiting, than in the past. It's very possible your dealer is sort of laying low right now, waiting for things to cool off a little. I haven't bought many new watches from dealers in the past few years, I much prefer to buy from fellow members on the sales forum, or buy parts and put together my own watches. I do remember that in the past some dealers were as quick as lightning to answer emails, others seemed to take their sweet time. I believe that those have a tendency to let emails accumulate until their inbox is overflowing, and then sit down and answer them in bunches. Have patience, I'm sure he will get back to you.
  18. That sounds like a very familiar journey for most of the folks here.
  19. Beautiful watch, anda great restore job
  20. I believe it's OK, but the case is not correct for the small GMT hand. The small hand was used on the 6542 (no crownguards) and the first 1675 PCG (pointed crown guards) So either the case has been replaced or the GMT hand was "upgraded" to a small point rather than a large point hand. also the insert isn't correct either, I don't believe they came out with all black inserts until later. Before I bought this one,I would want to see the serial number (You can get a close approximation of the year built) The caseback and the movement. Look at the inside of the caseback and see if the build date approximates the serial # age. One big problem with these watches, and we just had a discussion here a few days ago about this is it's often not a question of whether or not a watch is authentic, because in this case it certainly looks authentic, the question is how original is the watch. Has it been altered by a RSC because older parts weren't available, or is this a watch that has been "put together" with genuine parts, but not necressarily period correct. If you are buying this watch as and everyday beater, then it's probably OK, but if you are trying to start or add to a Rolex collection, i would stay away from this one. And in either case, it would have to be a bargain for me to even consider it for a beater. i always try to think of a watch purchase in terms of "what will happen when I try to sell it" and almost all of us are "Flippers" to some degree, so a watch is probably not going to become a permanent member of the family. And orphan may be dificult to sell, and the price you get for it may be low compared to another really correct watch.
  21. That's absolutely a acrylic dome crystal. I believe he's a little on the high side, as Doxa prices have softened a good bit in the last few years. They went through a really hot feeding frenzy a couple of years back, but that's cooled. I think one problem is the acute lack of parts. A lot of folks bought incomplete watches for big bucks and found much to their disappointment, parts were impossible to find. Word gets around, and it sours buyers. I love vintage Doxas, probably have had 8 or 10 over the past 6-7 years. Just a PITA to restore
