Indeed these are beautiful watches!
-
I was indeed lucky, the next prize was a pair of his/hers Breitlings SS/gold. and on down to caps and T-shirts. it must have cost Breitling a fair amount of money, because they never did anything like that again, and from what has been said here, and from other owners, they don't give anything away today!

I'm about done assembliing the parts for my 7924 build. i have noticed that a lot of the 7924's I see have the large circle "lollipop" second hand. Would anyone have any idea where to find one of these? The movement I'm planning to use is the ETA 2783. Another question, if it's imposible to find one of these, is the regular Tudor second hand acceptable as a replacement?

I had a couple of genuine Breitlings years ago. I found them to be very expensive, this was back in the early to mid 1990's. i had a couple of factory services (They had to send the watches back to Switzerland back then), the main complaint was they wanted to change out a lot of stuff that I didn't feel necressary, such as the Gold markers on the bezel at 3,6,9 and 12, crown. crystal as wel las a complete service, which was fine. even back then which was 25-26 years ago, the costs were up around 400-600 USD. I believe that the fellow could have done a whole lot better taking the watch to a competent Breitling certified watchmaker. Probably got everything done for 50% or less than Breitling. I got even with them however. Back in the early 1990's Breitling was just getting established here in the USA, they sent every owner a nice little Christmas gift, Chocolates, etc. Well, in 1995, they had a drawing for a lot of nice prizes. I entered , never heard anything for several months, one night, phone rang, daughter answered, said"Dad, it's some lady from Breitling" I got on the phone, she asked me my name, I told her, she said"You won the grand prize in our drawing, all expense paid trip for two to Switzerland for a week, round trip Business class on Swiss Air, first class hotels, and SwissRail passes. All we paid for was our food and what we bought to bring home. Even ate lunch at the Victoria Jungfrau,in Interlaken with the president of Breitling USA. We wanted to tour Breitling, but it was getting close to August 1st, and they were getting ready to shut down for their summer holiday. Totally off the subject i know, but an interesting Breitling story!!

I'm not sure about the 3130, but I bought a 1570 non-date for my 1665 project by mistake. Seller was not a native English speaker, and I missed something in the description, but it was entirely my fault, not his. at any rate when I sent the watch and movement up to Ziggy to put everything together, he told me the bad news. Also what he said and others agreed, it's almost impossible to find all the calendar parts and it would be cost prohibitive to convert a non date to a date. If the same is true of the 3130 than I would bet you would be better off finding a date movement to begin with.

Lots of great parts, good opportunity for someone who has 1570 movement laying around to put together a very nice 1680. Since this isn't a sales thread, per se, I will add my devil's advocate 2 centavos. This is my soapbox here on RWG. While these projects are really, really nice, putting together an "almost genuine" 1680 is pretty tricky, unless you have accumulated a lot of parts over the years. What I'm looking at here is about 2600.00 USD for the parts on hand, another 1500.00 USD for a serviced 1570, who knows what a genuuine bezel assembly would cost, but I would bet it's north of 500.00 USD,(600.00 USD on VRM today) then the silver datewheel (I bought one about 2 years ago for my 1665, and it was 240.00 USD), so even if you can get one for 200.00 USD, you're looking at close to 5K for the finished watch. Looking at the Vintage Rolex Market, the first post I saw was a really nice 5 million serial which would be from the mid to late 70's asking price 5300.00 USD another one which sold pretty quick, head only, 52m serial for 4290.00 USD. If you are sitting on most of the parts that you have had for 10-15 years, and were bought at a fraction of the price today, then this may be feasible, otherwise it's not. My point is what you are building here is a super franken which is as expensive as a good quality genuine. More power to those who want to do a project like this, it's great, but looking down the road, it may be pretty darn hard to sell a super franken at genuine prices.

WOW,Man those are NICE!!!

Seems like they found another page of the mayan calendar that runs for 10K+ years, so i don't think any of us will be around to speculate as to whether or not that one is the real thing or not. Interesting thing, although you got the end of the world date wrong, tomorrow 12/12/12 is the last "triple date for what, around 88 years. Not until 01/01/2101, another date that I would expect most of us will not be around to celebrate!! Not that this is important, but more useless trivia

That is a very nice 1675!! Even if it is a fantasy model, which is questionable, because there could have beeen some 1675 White dials made for PanAm, after the 6542 was phased out. I really like the Ingod dial. One thing i noticed about it, it has the date window in the correct place. The puretime dials have the date window too close to the edge. If yo uuse a regular ETA datewheel with the puretime dial, you end up with some left justification, which is really noticable when the dates in the 20's are showing. Looks like your datewheel is dead on. What made you decide to use the DG movement rather than a 2846? Just wondering. Wear it well,it's a beautiful watch.

The problem I see with the WSO pearl, is it lacks the flange around the pearl, like the geniuine. The old Tritium pearls had a clear outer rim, which tends to discolor with age, dirt, etc. just as the pearls discolor. Here is my 1665 with a genuine insert and genuine tritium pearl (got both off the Vintage Rolex Forum Market) .Ofrei has pearls that are said to be the exact same as the old Rolex tritiums.

Rolex GMT Replica From Andrew ~ Please Help!

You will get varying answers about the movement. their are some of us that feel like if the watch is going to be a long term "keeper" you would be better off with the Swiss ETA. Others don't feel like it's that big a deal. I will say this no matter which one you chose, I would factor in a movement service, as most (all) movement in reps are not properly serviced, if serviced at all. They are dry and dirty, and the accuracy and longevity will be exponent ally increased with a good service. -
Banned and soon forgotten, hopefully Ebay will follow suit as well. You are just like any other scamming criminal, you get caught, and instead of manning up and saying I got caught, shouldn't have done it, I know better, You start to scream and holler, that it's all everyone else's fault, we are counterfeiters, lawbreakers, guilty of intellectual property theft, etc, etc, etc. Well the big thing about the folks here and you, while we may be guilty of owning and occasionally selling "counterfeit" goods, the BIG difference is we do not sell by deception, we do not represent what we are selling as the genuine article, and every watch sold on this forum is described to the best of the sellers knowledge. you got greedy, you sold a bunch of Bull Sh*t stuff on Ebay, along with what you allege as genuine Rolex Datejusts, but your greed got the best of you, "why not try to slip in a really nice rep Submariner,i can make a quick big score, and I'll have my Christmas money made" Well too bad, you ran afoul of the Rolex Patrol, those guys on the Rolex Forum who have nothing better to do all day than scroll through the Ebay adds to watch for counterfeits. You should have known better, you frequented that forum, you should have seen all the "Fake Watch on Ebay" posts, but you probably thought "I'm a lot smarter than those watch geeks on the forum, I can get this one past them". Well you didn't and here you are. Banned everywhere. So my Christmas message to you is,You got what you deserved, so go crawl back under that rock you came from and good riddance.

Reading the description, the "superclone" is still a Asian 2836-2 movement that has parts added to make it look like a 3135 ? Is there really anything new here? It would be nice if there was a true "clone" 3135 movement, certainly make modding the newer rolex subs more realistic (As long as they aren't getting put on Ebay like the guy yesterday with the TC sub) I personally would love to see them make a "clone" 1575 Help out all of us in the vintage world with a nicer movement for 1680's, 1665's etc. -

I thought the same thing, it's illigal to send flammables, explosives or propellants thru the US mail, I would take the package and the propane bottle down to your local PO and file a criminal complaint. Heck, this could have blown up your house. (not really, but it sounds good when you are making a complaint) -
What did he do to it to make it fit correctly? Also what datewheel were you going to use/ just asking because The biggest problem I have with my MBW 1680 is the datewheel is right justified to the point that when you look at double numbers especially the 20's , half + of the 2 is outside the date window. Where does the genuine dial's date window sit in relation to the original MBW dial.

If you are concerned ,which you should, ask him for a photo of your watch, face on no angle at all, look at the DW alignment and then you can tell if it's off. It's impossible to tell when the photo is taken at any angle at all.

Freddy is absolutely right, the scammers know all the tricks, it's our job to know them as well! Most of the honest sellers are folks who move a fair number of watches, they know how to open the back of a Rolex, and they know how to take good clear photos. the honest guys know that one of the keys to selling something pretty fast and for a top price are lots of good quality photos and a good description. Even if a person is not a big seller, it's certainly not unreasonable to ask them to take the watch to a watchmaker, have them open the back and then take some good quality movement photos. Another thing that Freddy pointed out that is very important, we need to know what to look for or find someone who does. On several occasions, I have been contemplating a purchase, and will post the link on The Rolex Forum, the Military Watch Resource or WatchUseek, and ask others what they think about this particular watch. Not everybody on the genuine forums are experts, and there are quite a few folks over there that think they know more than they really do, but there are some really knowledgable folks on all the forums, and for the most part if some of those guys say a watch is OK, then it more than likely is. you have to use judgement when asking ,you can't post 10 links to watches for sale every other day and expect folks to vette watches for you, but if you are and occasional buyer, I believe that most people are quite willing to help. For most of us, a watch purchase in the multi thousand dollar range is a pretty big outlay and not something we do on a whim. With all the scammers out there, you just have to work harder than they do to stay ahead of the game. -
I agree 100%. If you are new you need to read, read, read. Look at lots of photos and then decide if the rep world is for you. If you are so caught up in perfection, you cannot stand anything outside of 100% then this isn't your game. If you are so impatient, and so in to instant gratification, you want your watch delivered Yesterday this isn't your game. If you expect the dealer to return your email(s) that you are firing off at the rate of 2 per hour, within 30 seconds of sending, this isn't your game. If you don't have or refuse to have a Plan B for the occasional rep that arrives with dust or a missing screw, or obviously needs a service, this isn't your game If any of the above happen your first reaction is anger, your second reaction is to file a Paypal dispute, THIS REALLY ISN"T YOUR GAME!!

You're right. the problem is while we are working at a real job, trying to earn and honest living the scammers and con artists are sitting around figuring out new and novel ways to cheat folks out of their money. Had and other example right here. Guy who is a member here, Repgeeek and other forums including the Rolex forum just sold a TC sub on Ebay as a genuine, brought over 5K. Some folks over on the Rolex Forum said it was a fake and explained why it was, the guy had the audacity to post a reply over there, claiming the watch was real, and he had a receipt for a genuine insert from the Rolex Forum Sales forum to back up his claim!! The thread is over on the Rolex forum here. honestly, I'm really getting leery of buying any "genuine" watches on Ebay and even some of the "legit" genuine watch sales sites. They have all gotten so big, and so many registered members, it's impossible to police the sites ,they are so filled with scammers grifters and con artists, it's not even funny. the guy who sold the Breitling probably didn't even own the watch, he more than likely stole those photos off a sales site! and if he did own the watch, he had no intention of selling it. I hope TZ bans him for life, and Paypal does the same. Good Luck, and hopefully you get your money back. A word to the wise, from someone who has been really lucky, don't let your desire to buy something and your anticipation and excitement , cloud your good sense and judgment. If your scammometer starts to sound off, which it did when he was trying all those "Creative" financing ploys, it's always a good idea to walk away. Unless you are buying some super rare "one of a kind" object, there will always be another one available on down the road. Better to wait and be rewarded for your patience, rather than jump in and be disappointed. -
All genuine and aftermarket dials are made to fit a genuine case, so no matter which dial you use, yuki,J&W,NDT or genuine, you are going to have the same problem. That is the primariry reason most of the modders here, tend to stick with the MBW dial, or a similar one that's made for the case. Also that's the reason you don't see any 1680 Superfrankens with 1570 movements. No reason to invest in a 1K+ movement if you can't use a genuine or good aftermarket dial. these are great watches, and they are certainly moddable up to a point, genuine insert/pearl. crown, lugholes drilled good aftermarket or genuine springbars, bracelet /endlinks, etc. It's just not the right case to take it to the ultimate level of a genuie dial and movement.
